I have often wondered about this.

Democrats are for big government and even bigger spending.  Looking at the issues and platforms for the current frontrunners on the Dem side, all I see are huge, costly expansions of current social programs and even more costly programs they want to introduce.

Dems always say that Republicans only give tax breaks to the rich.  Maybe that's true.  And "trickle down" doesn't really mean we'll all get rich from it, but it does enable more jobs to be created.

The Dems promise tiny tax breaks which will maybe give each family $500-$1000 more each year, a very small amount compared to the costs in taxes of the programs they want.

Why is anyone against tax breaks for the rich, even if it seems unfair to some, when they don't really do any harm to the regular middle class working people?  On the other hand, the tax increases to support the Dem programs would directly harm us.

You know, I can't remember getting any tax relief from a democrat, ever.  I've not received huge breaks from the republicans either, but at least we got SOME tax relief.  Obviously people making more got a bigger break....they PAY more taxes in the first place.  Democrats would have us believe there is something shameful about being financially successful and we must therefore punish the rich and make them share what they have.  To them, that is fair.  To me, it smacks of socialism.  Everyone has heard the adage about give a man a fish and he eats for a day, but teach him how to fish, and he'll never go hungry again.  That is a perfect example of the major difference between the parties.  Democrats would have Uncle Sam be a bottomless bucket of fish.  Republicans prefer to give out fishing poles and provide fishing lessons!

That's true, I believe.  The conservatives just want the freedom for people to do their own thing......get government out of the way.  They want free enterprise to work.  The Dims on the other hand are out to create class envy, in fact that's what Edwards whole campaign is about.  That's a hoot by itself considering Edwards background and life style.  In fact, as far as taxes go, the rich are the ones paying most all of them.

The Dems do want to create class envy so they can get idiots to buy into their social programs.

It's a fact that the wealthiest 1% earn about 20% of the income and pay 37% of the taxes.  If you include the top 10%, that's 68% of all taxes paid.  They do pay their share.

Taxes were not meant to redistribute wealth.

Yup.  That's what absolutely slays me.  You listen to people like Albore, Hitlery, the Breck Girl, etc. on their rants about these evil, no good rich people who don't want to share their wealth with the poor, downtrodden people of this country.  Then, you look at their houses, their incomes, and check their tax returns or released financial information and they NEVER make an extra voluntary payment on their taxes, they NEVER have huge charitable contributions, etc.  You'd think if they're going to run their mouths like that, they'd put their money where their mouth is.  But they don't.  Of course, dems cover it up by saying, "well, they just don't believe they should take a tax deduction for their contributions...they really give far more and just don't claim it!"  WRONG!  You better believe they take every single deduction they're allowed...and probably more!  Here in Mass. on state taxes, there is a box you can check to voluntarily pay a higher rate.....guess who NEVER checks the box?  Kerry and Kennedy!!  Talk about hypocritical!

The other danger of Democraps is that they will stifle inovation and the desire to work hard.  Why work hard to make money if they will take more of it away.

This is what I heard a few weeks ago from the Hannity radio show.  A liberal called in and Hannity tried to pin what the caller on o how much money taken fro the rich would be enough.  the caller said 85 percent should be taken from the the wealthy.

I have heard this played out on many shows, Larry Elder, Al Rantel, Hugh Hewitt.  This is the liberal mentality.  They also say they are for the middle class.  What a crock.  Middle class in California is not the same in other places.

That sounds about right Darren.  Given their way, a teacher and a file clerk would make the same thing, a doctor and a garbage man would make the same thing, a business owner and a paper boy would make the same thing.  I suppose when they accomplish that, we'll all see our homes torn down so that everyone could live in the exact same crackerbox house, drive the same fuel efficient green car, all dress the same, eat the same, etc.  To them, unless and until such time as everyone regardless of their station in life have the exact same thing as the next guy, there is no justice in the world.  Even a simple thing like, "variety is the spice of life" would be censored as envy.

The Republican party is no longer a conservative party just look who is ahead in the polls as we speak. You honestly can't believe that the Republican party ((conservatives) want smaller government. Look where we are at today, it was Bush senior and junior that is shoving the NAU down our throats it is the Republican party that is refusing to do anything about illegal aliens. The only difference I see between the two parties at the present is that the Republicans do not want to have a higher tax for the rich, and the Democrats do want to have a higher tax for all and then decide how to divide it up. The Republican party has abandon it's core belief and values. I'm almost ashamed to call myself a Republican. I will be an Independent before the election.

Is anyone watching the President's plan to stave off a recession play out?

The players have been President Bush, Ben Bernanke  who is an American economist and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the U.S. Federal Reserve and last but not least Dr. Edward P. Lazear, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.

It is an effort to act quickly to support a 14 trillion dollar economy, ours, with 140 to 150 billion infused from the government in the form of tax rebates or tax incentives to stimulate the economy.  In its formative stage, and yet to go before Congress for approval, they're not sure if the rebates and tax relief goes to everybody or just the low income, middle class and businesses.

Some say the stimulus package is a joke, too little too late, and a dog with no teeth.  Some say it is not going to fix the problem that ailes the stock market, that it's good from the investors point of view, and that it will just ease the pain.

Bernanke wants individuals who get a rebate to put it back into the economy by spending it on American goods.  When a reporter reminded him our manufacturing had been gutted and there were few American goods to spend on she got a lecture on how great our economy still was.  Sure, we had lost manufacturing but we had more than most countries and there are still jobs out there.

As for me, always the skeptic, I see  our economic mess as part of Bush's plan to bring us in line with a North American Union.  It's all politics, too small to make a difference and a big, big joke.

Please tell me someone else is watching this happen.  I would love feed-back.

You have a point, Bassin.  I just heard a clip a few minutes ago of Fred Thompson saying that the republicans are thinking we must become more like the democrats in order to beat the democrats and said he rejects that with every fiber of his being!  Good for Fred!!!

Patsy: This is exactly my point our country has become so diluted with different cultures that being a conservative is like being some type of radical.

The differences in their beliefs have been well-illustrated thus far.  However the differences in their actions as of late have been non-existant.

Christianity is anti-war, but you wouldn't know that from Christians: As explained here
Truth comes from God, not from government, yet more people these days only listen to the government.

I've heard some say that any stimulus package proposals are only good for making political points and that once the government is allowed to get into fixing the economy, it will only mess it up more as only the government can do.  The advice is to leave it alone and let it correct itself and we will get thru this faster.

Something tells me that that isn't what's going to happen.

Bush is talking about a rebate.  I for one desperately need a rebate.

FireWing and Superpat --

At the risk of being jumped on I'm looking at this from a broader perspective because this is exactly the scenario some of us (conspiracy nuts) have been expecting and that could lead to the da da da dummmm -- creation of a North American Union which will be called for to solve our economic woes.

Before you jump consider that I'm not the one who predicted this. I read it three years ago and thought it was crazy until I did some research, saw that Bush was holding our borders open on purpose, and came to see the absolute deadlock our government is currently in.

This prediction, passed on by pundits much more intelligent than I, should receive your careful consideration even if you hate my guts and are irrationally inflamed by the suggestion. I could list the reasons you should consider the POSSIBILITY but will stop here until I hear your REASONED reaction.

P.S.

Feel free to jump in too Patsy but leave the dancing dots out. This is much too serious. You've already told me how you feel about even the mention of a NAU -- it's merely comic relief for you -- but does any of what's happening today make you want to reconsider?

P.S.S.

If we can't talk about this intelligently then I won't push it and won't  mention it again.
