With only a few weeks left until the first presidential primaries and caucuses, the race for the GOP presidential nomination is still wide open. So many conservatives have yet to decide on a favorite, and this has led to the most up-for-grabs race in recent memory.

Much has happened in the last six months. With the GOP candidates participating in a host of debates and criss-crossing the country on the campaign trail, some have moved in the polls (either up or down). Others have remained solid throughout the campaign. How will it play out? Which candidate should conservatives support? Let's look at the race and try to find out...

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday showed that five Republican hopefuls are in double digits. However, for the first time ever, not a single Republican candidate reaches the 20% level of support. In the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination, it’s Mike Huckabee at 19%, Rudy Giulianin 16%, John McCain and Mitt Romney at 15% each, and Fred Thompson at 11% of Likely Republican Primary voters nationwide.

Let's discuss the top 4 only on the Rasmussen.

Huckabee seems to be fading but will he see another surge?

Can Giuliani keep up?

What about Mitt Romney?

Fred is shooting for some more steam.

Huckabee will fade as soon as people get a better look at him and realize he is not the man for the job. It is just a matter of time and this stuff will all sort out and we will only have a few candidates to discuss. I don't plan on bringing a pen into the voting booth come November.

Yes, MrT he will fade and it won't take too very long.  I've listened to a couple of ideas from Huckabee that sounded ok and I decided to look into his candidacy further.  Two or three times he has said something that I said to myself, that does it I could never vote for this fellah.  Some of the candidates just can't pass the litmus test, Huckabee being one of them.  The more people hear from some candidates the less popular they will become.

Huck will fade almost as fast as he "rose" to the top.  Giuliani's past is going to catch up with him and pull him down some.  Fred, love him to pieces, but I think he's getting traction a bit too late...time will tell.  Romney...it's his race to lose.  It's going to come down Rudy and Mitt I think.  Several months ago, I'd have said Rudy will take it.  Not so sure now...Mitt is looking better and better every day.

I agree with you Patsy.  It's some pretty hard choice because whomever is chosen has to beat the Democrats which somewhat complicates matters.  Out of the four I think only Huckabee need be discounted.  I think any of the 3 are qualified and could also beat the Dem candidate.  I'd rather see Mitt or Thompson over Rudy.  Rudy might be capable but there's just something about him I can't get past yet but I just can't put my finger on it yet.

I saw Fred and Keyes on Hannity & Colmes (I hate him) and Fred was lively funny and came across very well.  I'm not decided about Fred's CRF status yet, makes me hesitant.  That was one of the questions I posed on his site and haven't heard nary a thing about it since.

I would prefer Mitt over Rudy too.  Ditto on Colmes...I can't stand to look at or listen to him.  He's always such an uptight wannabe prosecutor when he interviews a conservative with all his, "isn't it true that.....", "isn't it a fact that.....".  But get a libidiot on there and he's practically on his knees kissing their butt.

I'm beginning to think Mitt will be the one that will rise to the top.  I only hope that the Republicans and conservatives will get behind him and support him if he is the nominee.  I guess we can count out Keyes and Paul for their support according to what they've said.

Well sure if he gets to buy Clear Channel and train all the media giants to back him like he wants...

One things for sure, Mitt is same old same old with a far left twist, Rudy is a little left of Barbra Streisand, Huck is a liar and (sorry folks) Fred seems to do much better reading someone else's lines. I do think Fred has a good heart and really is conservative, but with him, you get the Bush confidants (CFR) and it's business as usual. None of these guys offer the change the American people are demanding. I really don't think they'll be there when their laundry is finally aired.

You'll notice that our poll has them in reverse order and Juley Anni isn't even on our radar.

I've got to wonder if Fred really has the physical stamina to last a whole two terms though...power to him!

The last poll was a week ago, here is the new Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll

In the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination, it’s Huckabee at 22%, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney at 16% each, John McCain at 13% and Fred Thompson at 12%.

New data released today, however, shows that Romney has caught Huckabee in Iowa. Huckabee’s favorable in the state have dropped 14 points since his challengers have begun to point out aspects of his record in less than flattering ways. These results are consistent with data released earlier this week showing Huckabee losing his lead in South Carolina.

McCain has doubled his support in Iowa since being endorsed by the Des Moines Register. Still, that leaves him in a distant third place with 14% support. McCain is also surging in New Hampshire and has pulled to within a few points of Mitt Romney for the lead.

The bottom line is that there is no frontrunner in the GOP race, it is impossible to project who will win the nomination at this time, and the only thing we know for certain is that the rise of Huckabee has thrown the race into disarray.

I am not happy about the fact that John McCain is still hanging around. I thought after last summer's amnesty mess he would have been long gone.

Rudy just seems a little too much like New York's version of Richard Daley...too powerful on top...too crooked at the bottom. He's high society's defacto candidate for lack of a better one. I seriously doubt that 8 years of him would be good for us, however, if it comes to a disappointing choice between him and Hillary.....I'd just write in Lou Dobbs or someone.

Okay.   And, understand....I'm undecided.   I represent no one.

Why has this thread been started to narrow down to the top 4 candidates?   And, it's been narrowed down by Bobby Elerbe.   And, I've asked before.....who is he?

I got no answer.

Are we being very cleverly manipulated?

Check out Elerbe and Jeff Gannon on Google.

According to this site's polls, Paul, Tancredo, Thompson and Hunter were the top contenders.  It was only the media biased polls that had otherwise.  Huckabee is a joke RINO liar for open borders, and so are Guiliani, Romney, McCain, and Thompson--the CFR brotherhood with Hillery, Obama, and their ilk of globalists.  I have to question people who go Huckabee, there's not many around here.

The article used the Rasmussen Reports and when these candidates are surpassed with the others then we'll still be discussing the top 4 then.  Til then please, deal with it.
