I heard on the radio this morning that it will now be illegal to smoke where lottery tickets are sold. Evidently, somebody went to a convenience store to buy a lottery ticket and had an asthma attack attributed to people smoking in the store. Does anybody else see the incredible irony in all of this? Or maybe idiocy is a better description.

I am an asthmatic. Sometimes , I have an attack triggered by smoking. I am happy when reasonable rules are set to protect CERTAIN environments. I am very UNHAPPY with the anti-smoking nazis and their persecution of smokers. Hard to believe?? Well as an ex-smoker I truly understand the addiction. It is powerful. I live with two smokers. They are usually considerate. At times, they are not and they hear my displeasure. All that said, there has to be a balance in life and fairness. Anti-smokers (as versus non-smokers) are quite often very nasty people. We sit here on sites like this and challenge the ALgore AGW claims, yet placidly accept every claim laid out by the anti-smoking groups.
I guess my problem deals with the fact that the World Health Organization tests showed that Second Hand Smoke was quite unlikely to cause cancer in other people. The information has been suppressed for years. One can verify this by searching on "WHO" and "SHS' or, "Second Hand Smoke".
Now there will be people out there who will choose to interpret this post as supporting smoking--that is not at all true. The purpose is to ask for fair reasoning and to know all the facts before jumping all over smokers. I wish I had a magic pill that would help all smokers to quit.
did you see the ban on smoking, I believe at a hospital here in Texas, anywhere on the grounds, Even in your car in the parking lot, I used to smoke to, when people visit me I dont mind them smoking, they do it outside on my deck, not because I ask them to, but because they say they will not smoke in my house since I dont smoke, very considerate, Now you cant smoke in your car in a parking lot, thats just crazy,Why dont they just banned smoking all together, and drinking and everything? They will worry over whos smoking but not whos running over our border, Now I need a drink and maybe a cigarette.
That's been the case at a hospital near here.....signs up in the parking lots etc. NO SMOKING ANYWHERE on hospital grounds, not even your car. But, what's funny is you can go to a patient room upstairs....look out behind a dumpster in the parking lot, and there's the nurses, etc. puffing away. Obviously it's not strictly enforced.

All of these city and state smoking restrictions really irkes me! I am a smoker, but I am, and always have been a very considerate smoker. We don't smoke in our house (so as not to offend non-smoking family or friends), or cars for the same reason, and I never just 'go outside the door' to smoke in public, I walk completely away from the entrance. I NEVER leave butts anywhere accept ashtray recepticles or I take them home and throw them in the garbage.
But, I do believe smoking is a choice (a bad one I know), and I think that a restaurant/bars, motel owners, for instance, should have the right to designate his establishment a smoking establishment, or not, if he so chooses. If non-smokers choose to go there, they are forwarned. Same with smokers going to a non-smoking establishment - they can't smoke there. But it should be the individuals choice.
What I really get pi&&ed about is that the non-smokers are not willing to give any concessions, but they'll go out and drink, drive drunk and endanger people on the road or whatever. I don't frequent bars, but I did enjoy being able to go to a restaurant once in a while and enjoy having a cigarette with my after dinner coffee. Here in WA, they passed a law that finally took it out of ALL public establishments, whether the owners are agreed or not. Now, ALOT of Oregonians cross the river to come here to the 'non-smoking bars and clubs' for their fun, which is fine, but who's driving?

smoking rules, to my knowledge (which isn't great) is a state by state, city by city issue. But toadd to what speakengl said--there are two towns in CA that have proposed a "No Smokimng" law even in your own home. Dear God, spare this country.
I would like to see the Vice Idiots take a good hard look at the damage caused from Drinking, versus smoking. I believe they may be surprised. We know smoking causes some cancers, asthma and other problems. We also know that drinking causes some Diseses, cancers, besides the accidents, and total idiocy. But it also causes Children to have emotional trauma from being around and in the care of drinking adults. It causes deaths to children if they are allowed to ingest the alcohol. Look at the damage and destroyed families from Alcohol.
I can see the reasoning for our officials thinking the drinking is ok, but smoking is not. They are mostly drinkers, if not drunks.

I absolutely agree with you. My wife brings this poing up quite often. And your last statement is more then likely the answer....our leaders are all drunks!!!

I thought all public places throughout the country has smoking banned???
I am now smokeless for a month and a couple of days. I used Chantix and I highly recommend it if you are considering quitting.
No. It's state by state. My husband and I took a trip through the Southern states when we lived in TX and most restaurants and hotels offer a 'smoking or non-smoking choice'. Many texas restaurants still offer the choice, and my husband travels for his work, and most hotels offer smoking rooms, or forewarn you if they are a non-smoking facility entirely. Here in Washington, the hotels still have to option of offering smoking rooms, but all public facilities like restaurants, bars, malls, stores, min. marts, etc. are all non-smoking and the designated area for smoking must be 25 ft. away from the public entrance to the building.
