I am a small and precious child,

My dad's been sent to fight...

The only place I'll see his face is in my dreams at night.

He will be gone too many days for my young mind to keep track.

I may be sad, but I am proud. My daddy's got your back.

I am a caring mother. My son has gone to war...

My mind is filled with worries that I've never known before.

Every day I try to keep my thoughts from turning black.

I may be scared, but I am prouod....my son has got your back.

I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go.

There are times I'm terrified in a way most never know.

I bite my lip and force a smile as I watch my husband pack.

My heart may break, but I am proud...my husband's got your back.

I ama soldier. Serving proudly; standing tall.

I fight for freedom, yours and mine by answering this call.

I do my job while knowing, the thanks it sometime lacks.

Say a prayer that I'll come home. It's me that's got your back.

Awww...very sweet.  Remember the album Sgt. Barry Sadler did during VietNam?  "The Ballad of the Green Berets?"  It had a song called "Lullabuy" on it.  Real tear jerker that gets me everytime I hear it.  Could be sung by any soldier about to ship out.  It went like this:

LullabuyGo to sleepIt's getting lateMy watch saysIt's half past eightIn an hourI must goWhen I'll be backWell, I don't knowWhile I'm goneYou'll be the manHelp your mamaWhen you canIt's a big jobI can seeFor a boyJust pushing threeSon can I haveA little kissJust a small oneYou won't missThat's right closeYour sleepy eyesYou shouldn't seeYour daddy crySo go to sleepIt's getting lateMy watch saysIt's half past eightIn an hourI must goWhen I'll be backWell, I don't know

Thanks for the reminder Johannah!

Jason, I wait tables at night and last night I had the privilege and honor of serving a family with a young lady home on leave from Iraq for a few short days. They were celebrating Christmas as she will not be home this year with the family. It was beautiful and touching and I thanked her for her service to our country. She said things were going well over there and she was grateful for the brief leave. She knows one of my friends who is over there too- and did not realize he was on his 4th tour.

I hope everyone remembers our men and women so far from home for the holidays this year. I have a link for anyone who would like to send our troops a holiday message, a "thanks for your service", or just to tell them that you support their mission. Here it is:

Excellent site, BTB.  Any knitters or cookie bakers out there should check with groups like www.projectlinus.org.  They were founded to knit blankets for sick children in the hospital, but many of their chapters have lately also been knitting hats for troops to wear under their helmets, sending cookies and brownies, etc. to the troops as well.

Thanks Jason beautiful.  I must say that I disrespect my flag.  I leave it up 24hours a day 365days a year (like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Guards).  So I guess PC wise I'm a bad person.

Never get me to agree to that SP.  Just go to a hardware store and get a cheap floodlight to illuminate it and everything will be A-OK.
