Today in my local Los Angeles Times - Daily News - on the front page there is an article that talkes about hundreds of Vets returning from Iraq, lining up in Burbank Ca looking for work.  There are so few jobs that some return to Iraq as civilian contractors.

I think we should all write to the California Senators - Feinstein and Boxer as well as the Calfornia Governor Arnold S. and ask them to push for and support the Contractors doing the work on the "rebuilding" to:

a. Hire American workers

b.  Hire American workers at American wages

c.  Hire returning Vets

Do NOT hire illegal aliens (like they did in New Orleans after Katrina).

Everyone knows that after Katrina the Contractors said they could not find enough "American" workers so they imported hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens from Mexico and gave them jobs way below American wages and charged the same - and kept the profits for themselves.

No - trickle down theory here.

Push CA to hire American - to rebuild America!

While it is illegal to not rehire a returning National Guard or Reservist , it goes on all the time . Like all other laws , there is only one reason this law is on the books , employers have always tried to get away with it . This mistreatment of our Veterans should not be allowed , and it is time USA citizens backed it up with their voting powers . I hate to even get started on what injustices befall returning Veterans after all of their sacrifices in time of conflict , especially unfounded conflicts !!!

Bob, I am totally with you and that is why I will be really "pi.... off" if contractors in South CA think it is going to be OK to hire illegal aliens for these jobs.

Besides they send back over 24 billion to Mexico while using up our benefit $$$ meant for American citizens.  (see my new post) and that will really make you mad!Yell

I did . It did . These illegals get jobs ---plus medical/dental/optical , while veterans have no promises . The regular military has no real promises at all ( which is maddening ) because they enlist . Draftees and Reservists/National Guard have promises which are broken all the time . I am getting short on life (know it / resigned to it ) , I don't believe it is in the best interests of any foriegner or even our government to give me anything I might consider "JUST CAUSE" . Mine is cut short due to defoiliants and other issues , which I don't want any other veterans to endure , such as their having to do battle with the VA !!!

Forget Boxer and Feinstein - they are unmovable.  BUT, I do think we should write Arnie and find out who is the head of the CA dept. of Labor and flood that person.  They are the ones responsible, not the senators.  Also the district house reps.  comments please.

The California Labor Department ? I don't know if such a thing exists regarding who gets the jobs anyway . Most labor boards/departments operate at the behest of elected officials and answer directly to them , so it would be best to bombard the elected in order to see anything good come from the efforts .

Found this press release where Arnie is saying he won't tolerate 'shady contractors' etc. to participate in the rebuilding.  He seems to be heading up everything.  I went through the State of CA website and could find no Labor Dept., but from the looks of it, the Senators are involved little to none in the day-to-day problems or solutions of the various different agencies.

I'm going to write Arnie and (respectfully) suggest he make a pubic statement  to returning vets to apply for available reconstruction jobs.  I'm not in Calif., but I grew up there and still have friends, family there.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if you see illegals doing the work.... not one bit.

Thanks, spkengl for the information on Arnie.  I am going to get my letter off as well to make sure the right people (returning vets) have a chance at those jobs.

I had family there as well, and I want to preserve jobs for California citizens and Americans.
