The statewide development director of Kansans for Life believes the 107-count indictment against Planned Parenthood of Overland Park is a great first step in uncovering years of alleged illegal activities.

The 107 charges include late term abortions in direct violation of Kansas state law. Kansas District Attorney Phill Kline also charged the clinic with 23 felony counts of making a false writing, 27 misdemeanor counts of failure to maintain records and 29 misdemeanor counts of failure to determine viability.

David Gittrich of Kansans for Life says it is outrageous that tax dollars may have subsidized illegal activities. "It's been a real shame in Kansas, and I suppose other places around the country that when we do pass laws prohibiting abortion, or trying to place limitations on it, many times those laws are not enforced," he says. "And we are at least proud of Phill Kline to have the courage to be politically incorrect and enforce laws prohibiting certain kinds of abortions."

Gittrich says more charges could follow as the investigation continues. He alleges that this Planned Parenthood clinic "covers up" for underage girls who get abortions. "They don't report [those pregnancies] to the police" as they should, he claims, resulting in what he calls "open season for rapists and incest and pedophiles."

"Planned Parenthood will cover up for [those who impregnate the young girls] and destroy the evidence when they do the abortion," says the Kansans for Life spokesman. "I think it's about time they were brought to light and brought to court -- 107 a nice start; I hope they're charged with a lot more than that."

According to Gittrich, the Overland Park Planned Parenthood Clinic has routinely sold body parts from aborted babies since the 1990s. Pro-life groups are calling on the Department of Health and Human Services to investigate whether or not other Planned Parenthood clinics are engaging in the same type of illegal activities.
