Hi All,

I have a friend in New Mexico who is in a heap of trouble.  She is an older lady, in her sixties, living on very small social security checks.  She has been falsely accused of assault in corrupt Soccoro County by a very bad man.  She is eligible for a public defender but they are so busy that she may even be able to meet with him until the day before court in Nov.

Does anyone know of any groups in the Alburqurque area who might provide help or any gutsy attorneys who take an occasional pro bono case and is willing to take on the corrupt Soccoro County sherrif's department?

This lady could face eighteen months in prison on a totally bogus charge and an attorney who cares is simply beyond her means.

Google elder law attorneys. There are several web sites that might be helpful. Let me know if you find anything that is helpful. Mean while I'll keep looking for you.

Somebody from AARP may be able to help even if she is not a member.  Several groups out there that help senior citizens.

Good luck

Thanks, will try on both counts.  Unfortunately, Soccoro County is so corrupt that few will take them on.  I am really frightened for her.

Be sure to let us know how your friend makes out. The web site I gave you had at least one law office that will give a free consultation. Good luck to you!
