Rev. Dobson has been making news for the last couple days with his statements on who he WON'T support as the Republican nominee.

He won't do Giulianni, Thompson or McCain, and if any of them are the GOP nominee, he'd support a "third party" candidate.

His reasoning?  None of 'em meet his standards on abortion or the gay marriage issue.

His reasoning is fundamentally flawed.

Don't get me wrong - I like his position on abortion - but he's just NOT thinkin' it ALL the way through....or if he is, he's being more than a little hypocritical.

Faith is fine, but facts are facts.

In the dirty business of American politics, the simple reality of the situation is that NO third party candidate has EVER garnered more than about 3% of the vote.

Dobson and his supporters couldn't even guarrantee THAT much, by themselves.

The inarguable result would be a rift in the GOP base-vote, thus handing a win to the dem candidate - almost inevitably hellary cliton.

And that slitch is on record as being IN FAVOR of abortion.

If that is the case, then how many unborn babies would DIE as a DIRECT RESULT OF DOBSON'S DECISION?

In point of fact, the only REALISTIC (notice I did not say "best") way to insure that future Americans have the best chance possible of making it out of the womb alive would be for Dobson to support whomever the GOP nominates for President, since it's the Executive Branch which nominates who will sit on the Supreme Court - where the fate of future fetuses will be decided.

The choice is crystalline - someone who is UNLIKELY to nominate pro-abortion SCOTUS Justices versus someone who most assuredly WILL nominate pro-abortion Justices.

Pragmatism, reverend - look into it....unless you want literally millions of dead babies on your soul.

You never forget that smell.

Dr. James Dobson issues the following statement [recently], speaking as a private citizen.

I am endorsing Gov. Mike Huckabee for President of the United States today. My decision comes in the wake of my statement on Super Tuesday that I could not vote for Sen. John McCain, even if he goes on to win the Republican nomination. His record on the institution of the family and other conservative issues makes his candidacy a matter of conscience and concern for me.

That left two pro-family candidates whom I could support, but I was reluctant to choose between them. However, the decision by Gov. Mitt Romney to put his campaign "on hold" changes the political landscape. The remaining candidate for whom I could vote is Gov. Huckabee. His unwavering positions on the social issues, notably the institution of marriage, the importance of faith and the sanctity of human life, resonate deeply with me and with many others. That is why I will support Gov. Huckabee through the remaining primaries, and will vote for him in the general election if he should get the nomination. Obviously, the governor faces an uphill struggle, given the delegates already committed to Sen. McCain. Nevertheless, I believe he is our best remaining choice for President of the United States.
