Veterans Disarmament Act To Bar Vets From Owning Guns
by
Larry Pratt
Hundreds of thousands of veterans -- from Vietnam through Operation Iraqi Freedom -- are at risk of being banned from buying firearms if legislation that is pending in Congress gets enacted.

How? The Veterans Disarmament Act -- which has already passed the House -- would place any veteran who has ever been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on the federal gun ban list.

This is exactly what President Bill Clinton did over seven years ago when his administration illegitimately added some 83,000 veterans into the National Criminal Information System (NICS system) -- prohibiting them from purchasing firearms, simply because of afflictions like PTSD.

The proposed ban is actually broader. Anyone who is diagnosed as being a tiny danger to himself or others would have his gun rights taken away... forever. It is section 102(b)(1)(C)(iv) in HR 2640 that provides for dumping raw medical records into the system. Those names -- like the 83,000 records mentioned above -- will then, by law, serve as the basis for gun banning.

No wonder the Military Order of the Purple Heart is opposed to this legislation.

The House bill, HR 2640, is being sponsored by one of the most flaming anti-Second Amendment Representatives in Congress: Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). Another liberal anti-gunner, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), is sponsoring the bill in the Senate.

Proponents of the bill say that helpful amendments have been made so that any veteran who gets his name on the NICS list can seek an expungement.

But whenever you talk about expunging names from the Brady NICS system, you're talking about a procedure that has always been a long shot. Right now, there are NO EXPUNGEMENTS of law-abiding Americans' names that are taking place under federal level. Why? Because the expungement process which already exists has been blocked for over a decade by a "funds cut-off" engineered by another anti-gunner, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY).

So how will this bill make things even worse? Well, two legal terms are radically redefined in the Veterans Disarmament Act to carry out this vicious attack on veterans' gun rights.

One term relates to who is classified a "mental defective." Forty years ago that term meant one was adjudicated "not guilty" in a court of law by reason of insanity. But under the Veterans Disarmament Act, "mental defective" has been stretched to include anyone whom a psychiatrist determines might be a tiny danger to self or others.

It seems that Nabcy Polski and the gang can't wait to punish all the vererans for doing the bidding of this country. I suffer from ptsd, so I guess I need to go out a stock up. In the meantime I will raise a little H*** with my senators over this, they sure tried to keep this quite didn't they.

Of course they don't want trained soldiers owning guns.  Even worse would be trained soldiers who aren't on their pay roll, or who are pissed off at the way the government abused their talents and ambition only to give them a paltry little retirement.

I'm glad you people found this post, I couldn't believe they would actually try to disarm our vets.  Of all the people that should be allowed guns it's them.  Of course, the way John Murtha and some of the others talk about our soldiers, I guess it's logical.

It proves once again that the people in our government have a reason to fear a armed populance.   Couched in the fabricated need to so called "protect the people" propaganda of false fear, one more nail in the coffin of freedom and the ability to protect it.  I to a trained vet, will raise a little hell with my senators and any other officials I can get a hold of.

Thanks FireWing

This is really disturbing to me.  I can not see how any of us who served in Iraq and or Afghanistan can come back without some bit of PTSD from what we had to go through on the streets and roads and towns of Iraq and Afghanistan.  I am a fairly well balanced still on active duty Soldier who thinks about the death and destruction and long deployments often and it sometimes causes me to be a little distant.  That is one of the characteristics of PTSD but it does not make me instable it is a natural reaction to such things.  The idiot who floated this bill should be impeached.

Army, thank you for your service.  I  and all my family are very grateful to you.  I'm glad you're home safe.

What you say is exactly what I would think, that there would be some effects from someones service.   That should not be a reason to leave our vets unprotected and disarmed.  We have to put pressure on the senators about this.

Again, THANK YOU!!!!!

URGENT ALERT!!!
Anti-gun Zealots Trying To Ram Disarmament Bill Through Senate
-- Immediate action required

Gun Owners of America E-Mail Alert

You'd think that when rabid, anti-gun legislators like Sen. Charles
Schumer and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy join together to pass anti-gun
legislation, it would raise a few red flags.

But these two New York Democrats are currently planning to roll over
gun owners with H.R. 2640 -- legislation which would bar you from
owning guns if:

* You are a battle-scarred veteran suffering from Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder; or

* As a kid, you were diagnosed with ADHD.

Not to mention the fact that your ailing grandfather could have his
entire gun collection seized, based only on a diagnosis of
Alzheimer's (and there goes the family inheritance).

Gun owners have been desperately fighting this bill for several
months. You will remember that it passed in the House with an
unrecorded voice vote in June and was later passed out of the Senate
Judiciary Committee -- also without a recorded vote.

Sen. Schumer is pushing hard to pass this legislation -- dubbed the
Veterans Disarmament Act -- so he is circulating an
"agreement" which
would waive the Senate rules in order to bring up and pass the bill.

This agreement could come about in the next few hours or the next
couple of days!

This agreement is extremely diabolical, as it would eliminate the
ability of pro-gun senators to offer amendments which would clean up
the legislation... and would grease the skids for immediate passage!

But there is good news: In order for Schumer's "agreement" to
prevail, he must get "unanimous consent." This means that just ONE
single senator can block it.

ACTION: Please contact your two U.S. Senators RIGHT AWAY and urge
them to OBJECT to Senator Chuck Schumer's "unanimous consent
agreement" to steamroll H.R. 2640, the McCarthy anti-gun bill.

You can use the pre-written message below and send it as an e-mail by
visiting the GOA Legislative Action Center at
http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm (where phone and fax numbers
are also available).

----- Pre-written letter -----

Dear Senator:

Currently, anti-gun zealot Chuck Schumer is trying to get "unanimous
consent" to steamroll the Senate in connection with Carolyn
McCarthy's anti-gun bill, H.R. 2640.

If this bill is passed, an American would be barred from owning guns
if:

* He is a U.S. veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder;
or

* As a kid, he was diagnosed with ADHD in connection with the IDEA
program.

Not to mention the fact that an ailing grandfather could have his
entire gun collection seized, based only on a diagnosis of
Alzheimer's from a Medicare home health provider (and there goes the
family inheritance).

Gun owners don't support this legislation, better known as the
Veterans Disarmament Act. The Military Order of the Purple Heart is
opposed to it, having stated on June 18 of this year, that "For the
first time the legislation, if enacted, would statutorily impose a
lifetime gun ban on battle-scarred veterans."

Please place a hold on the McCarthy bill and object to any unanimous
consent agreement to discharge the bill.

Sincerely

Deer Hunter as a vet who has been diognosed with PTSD, I was in the army during the vietnam war, I will have to go out and stock up, isnt it funny that our congress did most of this out of view of the public, and now the word is out and their trying to push this through the senate as soon as the can.

Are they trying to keep us from protecting our borders? This is just another example of taking rights away from Americans for their personal gain! I am very disturbed by this.

Thank You ArmyMan30yearsplus, for your service and your post, not only veterans should be mad about this but the entire public, They won't secure the border but the will spend time plotting to deny the very army that protects the rights of this country their rights!

All guns are not recorded, like the ones that were stolen from me years ago. At this point if a survey wants to know if you have any that is NONEYA, that is none of ya damn business. They can not take what you do not have.

States that have laws prohibiting employers from prohibiting Concealed Weapons Permit holders from keeping their lawfully owned firearms in their vehicles while on company property:

Alaska, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Minnesota, and Oklahoma.  Exercise your rights and lose your job is backdoor gun control and needs to be stopped. This is just as wrong as discriminating againist my brothers in arms. If you don't see your state here contact your state representative.

We need to stand up for those who served in the hell of war for us and scrap this attempt to disarm vets. Seems the attempt to chip away at the Second Amendment is alive and well.

Way ahead of you, I have been calling and e-mailing the Senate for weeks now. Those gutless wonders in office are afraid of the Veterans in this country.
