We just returned from the Ron Paul rally held in Salt Lake City's historic Union Pacific Railroad Building at the Gateway.  It was a fitting location as it holds a history of people boarding trains bound for destinations across the United States.  Those attending the rally were bound for destinations in a renewed United States.

The rally began at 1:00 pm MST.  At 12:30 we took a couple of seats toward the front of the hall.  There were probably 100 supporters listening to wonderful entertainment by a young family group of amazing musicians (one no older than 6 who could sure play a fiddle!).  About 15 minutes later we looked around and there were at least 400 people with signs and excitement.  Among the supporters were many who came to see what all the excitement was about, several sat at our table and started asking us many questions.  Before we knew it the hour had come to start the rally and we took a look around.  The hall was packed...the crowd had to be close to the 1300 number the Ron Paul supporters numbered in Seattle the day before.  It was an amazing sea of American Flags and Ron Paul signs.

At every table and on every chair was informative literature clearly laying out Ron Paul’s positions on several issues.  One of the gentlemen at our table said he’d been to a few other rally efforts while making up his mind and none provided such clear detail on where the candidate stood on important issues facing the country.

It was a grand rally with talks from several key players in the campaign including an impressive young man leading the youth coordination efforts across the country.  As one can imagine there was a loud eruption when Ron Paul took the microphone.  He spoke for close to 30 minutes and it was a typical rally speech where he stated his policies and gave renewed hope for America if we cling to the Constitution and move to re-empower the States and people while scaling back the Federal Government to the level it was meant to be.  It was an exciting event but the key factor that impressed my wife and I were the large numbers of young families and young people embracing the message of liberty and freedom based on the Constitution.  When the youth of the United States wake up great things can happen and from the looks of this rally they are awakening and they are excited.

WOW! 1,000 people, what a turnout! Wonder how many people came out to see Mitt.

Ron Paul: Utah turnout wows candidate

More than 1,000 people gathered Saturday at the Union Pacific Depot in Salt Lake City to rally behind U.S. Rep. Ron Paul in his bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

Paul, an obstetrician from Texas, was impressed with the turnout.
"Wow. If they only knew you existed over in Washington, they'd change things over there," he said as he greeted the cheering crowd.
Paul spoke fervently of his support of smaller government, including the abolition of agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service, and of his support for strictly following the Constitution. He also spoke out against the war in Iraq and any pre-emptive military action.

"Because of our careless attitude about foreign policy and how we go to war, we have allowed our government to build an American world empire," he said. "We are not an empire. We're a republic."
Paul's stances on such topics are "clearly proven" in his voting record, which has earned him the nickname of "Dr. No" in the House of Representatives, said supporter Ronald Levine Saturday.

"I tell people not to listen to what a candidate says before an election or what he does," he said. "I tell them to look at what he has consistently done for the past 20 years."
That voting record is what drives his grass-roots supporters, said Mark Hudson of Syracuse.
"He is
the only candidate who attracts everyone fromlibertarians to constitutional conservatives to true conservatives," Hudson said.

Paul visited Utah for the free rally and for a $1,000-a-plate brunch that drew fewer than 20 supporters and a $2,000-per-plate dinner. He is the eighth presidential candidate to visit Utah, the fourth Republican. Paul had raised about $13,000 in Utah as of the June 30 filing, according to the Federal Elections Commission.

Though polls show Paul garnering an average of only 2 percent of potential voters, many of his supporters believe the polls don't accurately show how many people support him.

"He's the only candidate I've seen homemade signs for," said Tom Salt, who is studying mechanical engineering at Brigham Young University.
Salt sees many young people supporting Paul.  "We look at his principles and we're too young to be cynical about his chances," Salt said.

The mainstream media has not treated Paul fairly, said Jed Hardman of Springville, and neither have some of the other Republicans in the race, pointing to Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney "openly mocking" Paul after debates.

"They're afraid because as soon as such a true conservative emerges, one who is anti-abortion and has conservative views on taxes, they're going to lose," he said.

That's the power of networking...Mitt has outraised $ here in UT and has blindly loyal followings but we shall see how many rally on the 28th.  It was a great event, a lot of fun, I lost my voice cheering but it was great fun.  A significant number of those attending were first timers as well, the message moves on.  This week we're working the gun show at South Towne expo, should be a good RP crowd there!
