Alan Keyes

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After two previous runs for U.S. president, former Reagan diplomat Alan Keyes has announced he's again seeking the White House in the 2008 election, and he'll take part in Monday night's Republican presidential debate here.

Someone posted this announcement on another thread, I think.  I cannot find it, but I thought Mr. Ambassador deserved his own.

I have also emailed Sean to set up an Official Campaign thread for him.

I will reserve judgement.  The climate is a lot different than when he ran for President before.  Twice and failed.  He also had a failed campaign for Senator from Illonois.

He has no voting record to guage.  We will have to listen to him and take him at his word.

Good, I'm not satisfied with the current candidates. Some new blood is welcomed.

Thanks, msbobbie.   I was wondering whether there would be a thread for him.   Alan Keyes is a good man.  It really is too bad that Alan Keyes, Tom T. and Duncan Hunter can't all run together.

I remember his campaign in Illinois as I tried to be an out of state supporter.  If he had been running against somone other than Obama, I believe he might have had a chance, but the Democratic machine in Illinois ran the show, and Alan got in too late.  How different the Senate would have looked with Alan there.

Bobbie,

I went on his site and clicked on issues. All of his positions are in accordance with our views as far as I can see. We need his voice in this hunt as well. We are fighting up a sheer, vertical mountain. We need his voice and credibility. Many, many trust him. I do too.

I voted for Alan Keyes in the 2000 primary and I think he is a brilliant speaker and I used to believe he was a strict conservative.

His thoughts on the war in Iraq make Tancredo look like John Lennon.  I am glad he is running because he will suck the air out of the room for the other warmongers.

I am disappointed that he ignores the concept that we create more terrorists by continuing our interventionism.  He will be painted as a Christian version of a Jihadist, rightly or wrongly.  He is very misguided and passionately so.  I hope he does not suceed in futher radicalizing people.

His slogan should be, "If you liked the crusades, vote Keyes 2008."

This video is the source of my opinion

Monday night's event with all except the top tier Republican candidates will be the first of several such events I hope. The mainstream media will be unable to continue to ignore these events for long without raising the public's suspicions.

In 2000 some people were saying Pat and Alan should team up, like they have been saying about Tom and Duncan recently.

I think Alan might bring a Christian message to the campaign and that is good, but what he says about illegal aliens, protecting our borders and sovereignty is what is going to bring people who stopped voting after 2000 back to the polls.

msbobbie.  Sorry about not starting the Alan Keyes Official Presidential Thread.  As you had emailed Sean, I thought he would go ahead with it, which I see he has.  Thanks, again.

The Values Debate will be telecast on the Sky Angel Network, and it will also be on the Dish Network 262.and will also be streamed live on websites including ValuesVoterDebate.com">http://www.ValuesVoterDebate.com">Val... and the">http://www.AFA.net">the American Family Association.  Maybe someone can tape it.  I don't have satellite, but I will see what I can do.

“Unlike other straw polls where candidates have bussed in supporters or paid for their tickets, the Values Voter Straw poll conducted at this Presidential debate promises results consistent with the largest voting block in America—the Values Voter,” said Mat Staver, Chairman of Liberty Counsel and member of the host committee.  “This will be the most important straw poll yet.”

Didn't realize there would be a straw poll taken...

I also liked Alan Keyes when he ran before and I voted for him in the primary, too.  For me, his entering at this late date is too late -- as the Tanc's my man.

Tom Tancredo, my hero.

My goal is to get all the votes we can get for each candidate that is on our side and away from the candidates sponsored by big money and supported by its minions, the mainstream media. I would just love the nomination to be decided on the convention floor by delegates who support these four candidates and not have a CFR member or affiliated candidate get the nomination. Tancredo is still my man, but I will encourage others to pick either Tancredo, Hunter, Keyes, or Paul to support. Support for any of these candidates is support in the right direction. We must make significant progress to have effect.

I was teasing you!!!

This looks more to me like a panel of judges than what we have known as a straw poll.

When I first read about this debate they said INSP would show a film of it at a later time/day but I don't know when.  Perhaps during the debate the moderator will announce it.

Jerry Seper of The Washington Times was all over the Chris Simcox-Allan Keyes MCDC-Declaration Alliance trouble over money. This was one of his columns last year:

 http://libertypost.org/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=163046&Disp=10&Trace=on

I don't understand it all, but it raised serious concerns over whether Simcox was misusing MCDC (the Minutemen Project offshoot org) money. I'm not certain if this is still an issue, but some prominent MCDC folks left the MCDC because of it. Whether any of this is Allan Keyes' doing I am not sure. There are of course a lot of "hit pieces" about the debacle from Commie groups like the SPLC and rightwingwatch, etc.

I was very supportive of Keyes but thought that his foolish taking-the-bait to run late against the powerful Obama for Senator in Illinois was basically "taking the hit for the GOP" as he knew full well he'd get trounced. He's an excellent public speaker.  I agree with others here that his to-the-point speaking would light a much needed fire in the debates. The "first tier" are a bunch of liberals and RINOs and are as boring as can be. Benito already has annointed himself as king. He's going to get a rude awakening and so is the GOP if they think that running Benito, McCain, Romney and FT is going excite the base! I'm not one of those "anyone BUT Hillary!" types. The lesser of two evils no longer applies, as I see it. Keyes may help the cause for conservatives, I don't know. But his Declaration Alliance org may bring problems the GOP doesn't need.

I am not an ABC or ABH person either.  I have said it many times, anyone in the media selected top tier is just as bad for our nation as she is.

I have mentioned this before, if any of you messed it you must read an article named

CFR STACKS THE DECK

http:tinyurl.com/ygranv

http://www.thought-criminal.org/2007/08/15/cfr-stacks-the-deck-with-both-democrat-and-republican-presidential-candidates

You may get a 'not found' message, but keep trying,  It will come up.

I remember reading something about that minuteman thing when a bunch of members quit.

I pray Mr.Keyes will drain a lot of votes from the top tier, and not absorb the lower tier votes.

http://www.alankeyes.com/issues_list.php#immigration

Immigration

Our country's immigration policy should encourage legal immigration to be maintained, and illegal immigration to be curtailed. The policy should be enforced through existing laws.

It's a travesty when those who have abided by the law and become citizens through the proper means are considered no different than those who have not. If we start extending all the privileges of life and citizenship to people who are not citizens and who are not here legally, then we're breaking down our own laws.

And in breaking down those laws, we're creating a situation that will eventually damage our economy, damage our ability to deliver social services, damage our ability to maintain schools on an equitable basis, and so forth. It doesn't make sense.

That's why I believe that we have to enforce our immigration laws, and that we shouldn't be putting laws on the books that will extend to non-citizens the privileges of citizenship, because I think you are actually inviting people to violate the law when you're doing that, you're decreasing the respect for the law.

Let me stress that I believe that immigration in the true sense is good for America. This would mean policies aimed at assuring that, by and large, the people who come to America come with the intention of becoming full and responsible citizens of the republic. It also means discouraging any who think they have the right to establish foreign enclaves in our midst, so to speak, in order to gain economic advantages for themselves without fully committing to help us build this free society.

Immigration, yes; colonization, no.

The first prerequisite, therefore, of any effective immigration policy is to regain full control of the borders of the United States. Proposed legislation in Congress falls far short of what is needed to achieve this goal. Until our political leaders put in place the tools and forces needed to control our borders, responsible and moral Americans should oppose any measures that would signal our acceptance of the de facto colonization of our country.

President Bush's guest-worker proposal and the Senate's amnesty bill are such measures. They may serve short-sighted business interests intent on cheapening the cost of labor in our economy, and they may serve the corrupt interests of Mexican and other foreign elites seeking to relieve the pressure created by their own policies of greedy exploitation, but they do not serve the common good. Serving the common good demands policies that give preference in immigration not just to workers seeking jobs and money, but to those who seek liberty and the responsibilities of citizenship.

Let me add that it is incongruous that in the midst of the struggle we are now waging against the international terror network--a struggle that has taken various forms, including, we are told, the effort we are making on behalf of self-government and liberty in Iraq--I think it's incongruous that we should be putting forth such a maximal effort of sending our men and women over there to risk their lives and spill their blood, and meanwhile we are being told that we don't have the right to defend the integrity of the identity and the borders and the self-government of our own people.

You can't have freedom in principle if you won't defend it in fact! And if we let our borders collapse, the facts that support our freedom will be gone, and you know it.
