September 15 Anti-War Protest to Be 'Unlike Any Other'

(CNSNews.com) - Organizers of an anti-war protest scheduled for Sept. 15 said Wednesday that the demonstration will be "unlike any other" as activists gather to demand an immediate end to the war.

The protest, organized by Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER), begins with a rally near the White House, continues with a march to the U.S. Capitol, and concludes with a "die-in" that organizers estimate will involve approximately 1,000 people lying down near the Capitol in a symbolic effort to represent dead U.S. soldiers and dead Iraqis.

Brian Becker, ANSWER's national coordinator, told reporters at a news conference Wednesday that the demonstration "will be unlike any other anti-war protest in recent years because it will culminate in a massive civil disobedience," referring to the "die-in."

He said the volunteers who have signed up online to participate in the demonstration are risking arrest by participating. The group expects "tens of thousands" to protest the war.

"Seventy percent [of Americans] support the immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces," Becker said.

"You'll see on Saturday that not only have people in general turned against the war, but the Iraq war veterans, the soldiers and Marines, their family members ... are turning more and more decisively against the Bush administration's endless lies in pursuit of endless war," he said.

A Sept. 8 CBS/New York Times poll found that 30 percent of Americans supported removing all troops from Iraq, while 35 percent supported decreasing the troop presence there. The poll did not ask respondents about a timeframe for withdrawal.

A Sept. 7 ABC/Washington Post poll found that 55 percent of Americans would support legislation setting a spring 2008 deadline for withdrawing troops, while 41 percent would oppose such a measure.

Adam Kokesh, co-chair of Iraq Veterans Against the War, said civil disobedience was necessary because "asking, pleading, begging for change is not sufficient." He said participants in the protest are "willing to step it up, they're willing to make sacrifices."

He said the demonstration would send a message to elected officials that "if you do not take our demands seriously, we will be in the streets, we will be shutting down the machine."

Other anti-war activists said they hoped the civil disobedience will inspire other Americans to get involved in the anti-war movement. "When they see us, they see us physically resisting this war and occupation, it inspires them to do more," said Tina Richards, CEO of Grassroots America.

Cindy Sheehan -- the Gold Star mother whose son, Army Spec. Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq -- has come out of anti-war movement "retirement" to participate in the protest.

She is also challenging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for her seat in the House of Representatives in the 2008 election because of Pelosi's failure to bring an end to the war.

"If the rest of America heard about it," Sheehan said of the protest efforts scheduled for the weekend, "it might really start a revolution."

Anti-war activists aren't the only ones scheduled to be in the nation's capital over the weekend. On Saturday, members of the Gathering of Eagles (GOE) and other supporters of the war will stage a counter-demonstration and rally.

Dubbed "Operation Eagle Justice," the GOE events will start with a rally on the National Mall and conclude with a counter-demonstration along the ANSWER march route. "As ANSWER and their allies in the hate-America crowd will stumble by, we will treat them to some good old-fashioned, red-blooded American 'free speech,'" the group says on its Web site.

Families United for Our Troops and Their Mission, a group of Gold Star and Blue Star families, will have a small presence at the GOE rally, according to National Chair Merilee Carlson. But the group's main events will come in the days following anti-war efforts.

Carlson said 500 Families United members will visit Washington to tour the city, visit war memorials and participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday. Members will tour the U.S. Capitol and meet with elected officials Tuesday.

"Frankly, the fact that we are dedicating ourselves to serving our country at the Arlington National Cemetery, that is how we offset something as despicable as the march and the die-in," Carlson told Cybercast News Service, explaining why Families United won't have a large presence at the Sept. 15 march.

"That's not the way Families United works. That's not the way our families are," she said. "These people are so excited to be coming to visit these historical places, to visit the monuments and get firsthand the feel for the heritage of our country, and it's so positive and so supportive, and they're just simply amazing."

Isn't this unbelievable. The evil sow and cow, the evil Cindy Sheehan never gives up doesn't she. She is again leading the charge for this latest Anti-American, Anti-freedom, Anti-War rally which without a doubt poses a tremendous threat to the freedom of our nation. Doesn't she realize that evil goons like Osama Bin Laden is watching and he's probably saying to himself- "Cindy, I applaud you for leading the anti-american fight against the Bush brain washed infidels. I would like to make you a member of my terror group and heroic warriors Al-Qaeda. I know that you want to spread Islam throughout the nations." This evil cow doesn't care what happens to the people of Iraq and the very young Iraqi goverment. I bet that her late son wouldn't want that. And I bet that someone were to ask her that very question, evil Cindy would reply. "MY SON WOULD WANT THIS WAR TO END!!" Wrong again you sick cow. Your son who died a hero, would NOT want the campaign to end. Let me tell you something, ms. evil cow. Of what you are fighting for is a anarchist, socialist nation isolated from the rest of the world. And you also don't care if this nation may one day fall to man named Osama Bin Laden. Well, I don't want to be part of a socialist nation...thank you very much.

Maybe her and Bin Lauden could join up and start a world tour. It could be called the Bin and Cin show. It could have big screens with pictures running behind them of every war crime and such that the U.S. has been accusssed of, The way Cindy would have to cover up to travel with Bin Lauden would actually be very flatterling to her body shape, maybe she thinks this would be good, all american women will have to cover up, They could have special guests at their show like Dick Durbin, Harry Reid, John Murtha, Clinton, Obama, the list could just go on and on, and than at the end of the show tour, when Cindy goes to embrace Bin Lauden, he will ask her to convert to Islam and if she refuses he will just have to show her what they do to people who refuse, than maybe she will understand, but by then it will be to late.

Cindy is like the energizer bunny, she just keeps going and going and going !

Did yall know that Cindy Sheehan got something like $250,000 from the government when her son was killed. Yet, she has not even bought a headstone or any kind of marker for his grave. My former boss sent me an email which shows his grave still unmarked.

Sheehan is disgracing and dishonoring the memory of her hero son who died on the battle field protecting her country and her freedom. She and hundreds of thousands of her followers (including those in the above picture and some lost republicans) are nothing more than snivelling, yellow bellied cowards who arer ready to hand over our country to the enemy. Anyone who does not want to win this war, and is doing every thing they can to loose this war, is a traitor.

As such, there are only two options for them:

1. expell them form the United States of America;

2. execute them.

Personally, I would like to see the United States buy them a one-way ticket to Iran or Venezuela. I think they would fit in nicely in either of those two countries since they seem to have so much in common---HATRED TOWARD AMERICA AND THE PRINCIPLES FOR WHICH IT STANDS.  Sean Penn can join them there as well.

This whole attitude of name calling and calls for violent demise of anyone who dissents is animalistic and undemocratic at the least . Although many of those who dissent do so very distastefully , those who dissent the dissenters reach an all time low IMHO .

Thanks for the positive comment . I too find it very hard to rationalize with those who are totally irrational , but being under study and treatment for PTSD , I have found new realization in the fact that PTSD is not reserved for just those on the war front , but it can and does occur from news events , daily trauma , spousal abuse , etc. etc., and even a "Street Car Named Desire". LOL this is how I now deal with it , some are afflicted with PTSD and some are afflicted by mass hypnosis, in any case , how will they know ? If they are just plain ole birth defected brain situations it is much easier to identify and work with but I can't see all of every body from here , just make MHO and keep on keepin on .

Most people are like a good thermos . There is no brain but it can keep things cool or keep things hot just the same .

It's my understanding that Cindy gave her son up when he was very young and hadn't seen him in YEARS.  I don't doubt she grieves, but I do wonder how much of it is out of guilt and sorry for what she missed (by her own choices).   She has a right to fight for her cause like anyone else, although I don't agree with her methods and grand-standing.   I do question the reasons behind her motivations. 

 What happened to "I'm tired and giving it all up" message she sent out a few months back?
