I am OUTRAGED over Brian Montopoli's stance with regard to the very necessary show....DATELINE TO CATCH A PREDATOR...This show has CONVICTED over 120 perverts who specifically PREY ON OUR CHILDREN IN INTERNET CHAT ROOMS. Brian Montopoli says this is "entrapment".  Brian Montopoli is DEFENDING these PREDATORS! Read the story below...and I urge ALL OF YOU to email him at publiceye@cbs.com and tell him that YOU WANT THESE PREDATORS APPREHENDED ANY WAY POSSIBLE! I will also find a list of the advertisers who seem to be wary...we need to tell these people that we WANT THESE PREDATORS IMPRISONED and that if they pull their advertisements- we WILL boycott their company and expose them as PROTECTORS OF PREDATORS!

Advertisers Wary of ‘To Catch a Predator’

NBC’s sting-operation segments “To Catch a Predator” have scored solid ratings and created positive buzz among viewers, but the network appears to be scaling back its commitment to the program — because the content reportedly makes advertisers uneasy.

So far this year NBC has filmed only one sting operation for the program — which airs as a segment of its “Dateline NBC” newsmagazine — compared with seven last year.

The most recent episode, on July 25, included six national spot ads, significantly fewer than normal for a show in NBC’s prime time, according to The New York Times.

“Some advertisers say they are wary of being associated with the show’s content, in which men lured to a house by the promise of a sexual encounter are instead surprised by [host Chris] Hansen and then arrested,” the Times reports.

And Andy Donchin, a director at the ad agency Carat USA, told the Times: “We’re all concerned with what content we’re associating ourselves with.”

The program’s producers work with a pedophile watchdog group, Perverted Justice, whose members pose as underage Internet users and converse with adults in chat rooms. If a conversation turns sexual, the “underage” Web surfer agrees to meet the adult in person. When the adult arrives at the meeting place, he is confronted by Hansen and a film crew and arrested by local police.

The program — which first aired in November 2004 — is currently facing two lawsuits, one stemming from a suicide.

Perverted Justice maintains that Louis Conradt, a prosecutor in Terrell, Texas, engaged in sexual conversations online, but he did not show up at the meeting place. Police obtained an arrest warrant, and as officers and “Predator” crewmembers approached his home, Conradt shot himself in the head on Nov. 5, 2006. His sister filed a lawsuit against NBC in July, seeking $105 million in damages.

In the other suit, former “Dateline” producer Marsha Bartel asserted that she was fired because she opposed what she called the program’s unethical production practices. She contends that Perverted Justice did not keep accurate transcripts of the online conversations between the predators and the watchdog group’s members.

Brian Montopoli of the CBS News Public Eye blog — and a former staffer at the Columbia Journalism Review — has maintained that the program is in some cases a form of entrapment.

He has also argued that while legal punishment of predators is left to police and prosecutors, airing the suspects on national television is already a form of punishment that the media has no right to inflict.

In addition to the bad publicity and advertiser reticence, “Predator” is also expensive to produce, according to the Times.

Regarding the network’s seeming reluctance to commit to the show, Brad Adgate, senior vice president for research at the ad-buying agency Horizon Media, told the Times: “NBC’s probably thinking about what their return on investment is, and might be thinking it’s better to move on.”

Entrapment or not, you still have a whole slew of sleazy, creepy looking losers driving for hours to try to have sex with a 13 or 14 year old girl or boy!!  That is sick!

If you have to hyphenate your race--you are NOT an American!! This from a French-German-English-Irish-AMERICAN! See how silly this can become?

Entrapment huh?  And just what would you call the process that the ADULT pedophiles are using?  I don't even watch the major network stations more than once in a while but that show sounds like a good one that most Americans would be glad to see.  The bedwetting scumbags must have had a NMBLA (national man boy love association, really there is such a thing--someone else posted this one time and I looked it up much to my surprise) meeting and complained to the ACLU run media programers.  Actually, I am shocked that the show ever got on in the first place.

I will pay for the electricity and pull the switch....

Oh yes, that NMBLA is a true "group", I heard about them years ago and was shocked that a lot of them were so open about it!  Very scarey!

I for one watched several of the 'to catch a predator' shows and was pleased that they were able to nail many, but was shocked that there WERE so many to begin with in any location they chose to set the show up in--very sad...and that some were in trusted occupations, ie police, armed forces, a rabbi, schoolteachers...

SovereignMan...MSNBC shows re-runs on Friday nights at 1100pm of "Dateline To Catch A Predator"....they have snagged so many guys that are not even Americans...at the end, they scroll and tell what happened to each person...some of the illegals made bail and have not been heard from since! The Rabbi they snagged is named DAvid Kaye....google him...he chatted with someone he thought was a 13 year old boy and sent him pics of himself "engaged in an unspeakable act" with another man...and THEN he shows up at the house...ready to have sex with a 13 year old boy! The judge gave him 6 years in prison ( i think, if i remember correctly). SovereignMan, If you get a chance to watch an episode, I really want to hear what you have to say...because you will be OUTRAGED and REPULSED at the same time.

"Perverted Justice" is the online watchdog group that law enforcement and Dateline worked with. They DID follow the law to the letter with these pervs...If a person chats up a child on the internet, talks about sex, sends naked pics of themselves and then shows up at "the house" where they think a child is home alone....SHOULDN'T THEY BE PROSECUTED? I am just so outraged with Brian Montopoli...its like he's saying WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!

Deerhunter....LMAO! HA!

I think what really got a rise out of Brian was the "suicide" of Louis Conradt...the Prosecutor from Terrell Texas...this perv was CAUGHT IN THE ACT chatting up a child on the net and engaging the child in sexually explicit chat. That ALONE is ILLEGAL! Well, the guy killed himself when police went to his house...they found a lot of child porn on his computer. Now this pervs idiot sister is SUING? Your brother was a pervert- get over yourself...your brother pulled the trigger and killed himself...NO ONE HELPED HIM. Conradt KNEW he had been caught and instead of facing the music like a REAL MAN...he chose the easy way out. His sister should NOT be allowed to sue Dateline. I sincerely believe Dateline is performing a necessary PUBLIC SERVICE. The fact that a lot of these guys caught in Dateline's sting were also ILLEGALS or here on WORK VISAS...they had 1 or 2 muslims (hey, isn't that against their religion?).....many guys from India here on work visas. One that escaped justice was Egyptian.

Here in the South as Deerhunter can probably attest to you set traps to ensnare predators and other pesty vermin. I love To Catch A Predator. No empathy for the predators or the spineless Brian Montopoli.
