Go Duncan Hunter!!! I am very sad that Tom Tancredo only got 6 votes? In Texas? Well, forgot Texans like illegals aliens, otherwise I don't understand why Tom Tancredo only got 6 votes.  At least I was expected to be after Fred Thompson, right?

Duncan must have won because he actually showed up for the event in Ft. Worth.  I heard him interviewed on the Hugh Hewitt show yesterday.   This event was never posted on Tom's website, so I'm not sure why he didn't go.

Tom Tancredo, my hero.

Congratulations to Duncan Hunter!  This will put some wind in his sails.  Who is Ray McKinney?

Wow, 16.7% of the vote from delegates of the past 4 years for Ron Paul!

This does not include the new wave of supporters so this means quite a few have been turned over to Ron Paul's message of obeying the Constitution.

Rudy McRomney did nothing, and what a surprise on Hunter's results vs. Tancredo's!  WOW!  He really campaigned hard for that one and he deserves it.   Too bad he's broke.

Take note, Ron Paul was the best known candidate among those who voted in the Texas Republican Straw Poll today.

Ron Paul is a Republican from Texas.

Everyone who voted today has been a delegate to the Texas Republican State Convention at least one time during the last four conventions.  Ron Paul had spoken (in person) to most of today's voters at least once in the past.

In comparison, Duncan Hunter is a relative known to those who voted today and yet he got 317 more votes than Ron Paul.

I like Duncan Hunter,  he seems honest and not afraid to stand up for what he thinks,   He doesn't seem to get a lot of attention especially in the debates.     They always seem to favor McCain, Romney and Gulini.    I favor Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancreado, Newt G.

Not sure about Thompson yet or Ron Paul,

How do you quantify Ron Paul's notoriety amongst the TX delegates?  Hillary is also well known but this doesn't meant that constitutionalists will be voting for her.

Delegates are important members within the party itself, and again the requirements of the TX straw poll was that a delegate HAD to have been a delegate of the GOP for the last 4 years.

Now I'm going to go out on a limb here with this comment, but I don't think that the Goldwater/Taft/Ron Paul breed of Constitutionalist conservatism has been represented very well in the GOP the last four years.  The fact that 16% of GOP leaders voted for Ron Paul (and yet another 3rd place finish) is a very good sign.  Not to mention the little tidbit that about 50+ delegates were denied entry to the poll as their bus arrived 2 minutes late (confusion on when the event began from the TX GOP website).

Duncan Hunter apparently campaigned very hard in TX amongst the delegates so his strong finish is not that hard to believe.  Also keep in mind that delegates are much more aware of these 2nd tier candidates than the regular people are.  Though I would suspect Tom Tancredo to represent the more typical conservatism of the right side of the GOP (as Duncan Hunter voted for Socialist Education and for the Great Society 2.0) but it shows you that those who empty the warchest can win.  Huckabee and Tom did it in Iowa and they did well.

Ron Paul is staying very consistent and has the MOST top 3 finishes in Republican straw polls.  He still also has a winning record when pitted against any other candidate in straw poll results except for Council on Fred Relations where his record is 9-10-0

How do I know of Ron Paul's notoriety amongst TX delegates?

I have been a delegate to 4 of the last 5 Texas Republican State Conventions.  I have heard Ron Paul speak at some of those conventions.

If he spoke at the conventions then most of the delegates must have heard him, but that doesn't mean that most will vote for him since 83.83% did not vote for him today.

The rest of my post further addressed what your response above even said.  You heard him speak, doesn't mean you're a constitutionalist yourself and would vote for him.  Most republican leaders who have been delegates that long are not constitutionalists.  As I said, just because you know about somebody doesn't mean you are going to vote for them.  16% of the vote from the GOP leaders for a 6% candidate (as the polls say) is pretty darn good.
