Tom Tancredo is a former history teacher in a Denver, Colorado Junior High School.  In 1981 President Ronald Reagan appointed him to head the regional office of the Department of Education, where he served for 11 years.

Tom then served in the Colorado State Legislature until 1998 when he was elected to represent Colorado’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. Congress.

Illegal immigration issues brought Tom to Washington and he has been fighting for immigration control and secure borders for the last 8 years.  He also supports FAIR TRADE vs FREE TRADE and voted against CAFTA and the expansion of NAFTA and is opposed to SPP, NAU and a foreign owned NAFTA SUPERHIGHWAY.

This year alone Tom has authored 19 bills and amendments, including an amendment to the Homeland Security appropriations bill that will deny funds to sanctuary cities, and has co-signed 84 other bills including H.R.25 THE FAIRTAX PLAN.

Tom has earned A or A+ ratings from every conservative group:

American Conservative Union

National Right to Life Committee

National Rifle Association

Family Research Council

National Taxpayer Union

Americans for Better Immigration

National Federation of Independent Businesses

Tom was the only candidate on the Republican ticket who accepted the invitation from NAACP to speak at their annual convention.

Tom is not the most eloquent speaker among the candidates, but he is the most passionate, bringing an audience to their feet with his trademark closing:

This is your culture, fight for it!

This is your flag, pick it up!

This is your country, take it back!

Tom is not accepting any corporate, special interest, or PAC money for his campaign and relys on contributions in any amount from supporters who believe in his message for a better America for our grandchildren.

Tom Tancredo Signs Presidential Taxpayer Protection Pledge
Congressman promises to protect the wallets of American taxpayers

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Tom Tancredo, who is seeking the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination, signed the Presidential Taxpayer Protection Pledge yesterday, Feb 27th, 2007.  The Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform entrusts signers to “oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses … and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates."

ATR has offered the Pledge to all candidates for federal office since 1987.  Every Republican nominee for President since 1988 has signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. To date, President George W. Bush, 43 U.S. Senators, and 196 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have signed the Pledge.  Seven Governors and over 1,100 state legislators have signed the Pledge as well.

Rep. Tancredo, since first signing the pledge in 1998, has shown strong fiscal responsibility and pro-growth credentials with an ATR lifetime rating of 95%.

"We applaud Rep. Tom Tancredo for signing the Presidential Taxpayer Protection Pledge," said Grover Norquist, president of ATR.

“I continue to encourage every Presidential candidate to show their commitment to the U.S. taxpayer by signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge,” Norquist continued.

Rep. Tancredo joins Gov. Mitt Romney, U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, Rep. Duncan Hunter, and Gov. Gilmore as the other major presidential candidates to sign the Presidential Pledge for the 2008 Presidential Campaign.

Copies of the Pledge are available at www.atr.org or by calling (202) 785-0266.

The media is not Tom’s friend.  Because he gets so little attention from them he has chosen to concentrate on the issues he supports and not say much about his background.  I find him to be an admirable candidate. Tom Tancredo headed up the Independence Institute, a free-market think tank based in Golden, prior to being elected to Congress.

In 1999 he founded the bipartisan Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, which he still chairs. By the end of the 109th Congress it amassed 104 members. Under his leadership the caucus was instrumental in passing The Border Protection, Anti-terrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act through the House of Representative since 2005. Tom is a member of both the House International Relations and Resources Committees. As a member of the International Relations Subcommittee on Africa, Congressman Tancredo authored the Sudan Peace Act which was signed in 2002 by President George W. Bush.

.

Note: When Tom began his campaign for President, he stepped down from the chairmanship of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. The Border Protection, Anti-Terrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act was H.R.4437

.

 http://judiciary.house.gov/media/pdfs/HR4437.PDF

.

That was passed in the House in December 2005.  It only addressed those three issues and eventually grew to S.1369 with over 600 amendments added in the Senate.

Tancredo slams Katrina spending

August 31, 2007

GOP presidential hopeful Rep. Tom Tancredo (Colo.) said Friday it is “time the taxpayer gravy train left the New Orleans station” and urged an end to the federal aid to the region that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina two years ago.

“The amount of money that has been wasted on these so-called ‘recovery’ efforts has been mind-boggling,” said Tancredo, who is running a long-shot presidential campaign. “Enough is enough.”

Citing administration figures, the lawmaker said that $114 billion has been spent on the effort to rebuild a large stretch of the Gulf Coast after the storm hit New Orleans in August 2005 and claimed more than 1,600 lives.

“At some point, state and local officials and individuals have got to step up to the plate and take some initiative,” said Tancredo. “The mentality that people can wait around indefinitely for the federal taxpayer to solve all their worldly problems has got to come to an end.”

The lawmaker criticized in particular the amount that has been wasted through fraud and abuse, estimated at $1 billion.

“This whole fiasco has been a perfect storm of corruption and incompetence at all levels,” he added.

Here is another announcement for September 17, 2007:

The GOP Values Voters Presidential Debate

We've heard the questions from talking snowmen. We've gotten the crumbs that fell from Chris Matthews. Now it's our turn. It's time the candidates answer questions from the largest voting block in America: the values voters. Yes, the values voters.

A letter of invitation was sent June 4 from national pro-family leaders to both the Republican and Democrats running for president. While it seems everyone is clamoring for the same date, Sept. 17, the good news is that seven out of 10 of the Republican candidates have already confirmed their attendance to speak on that date to the most essential constituency: the values voters.

So far, six Republicans (Huckabee, Brownback, Hunter, Paul, Tancredo, and Cox) have rightly chosen to attend the event where they will hear from the base of their party.

Mark the date! September 17 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. The Values Voter Presidential Debate held in Fort Lauderdale will be streamed live by the American Family Association.

What makes this debate different? The candidates will be asked questions related to abortion, immigration, marriage and other issues Values Voters consider important.

If you want to see where they stand on the traditional, pro-family issues, don't miss this debate.

Live video or audio streaming can be found at www.afa.net on the day of the debate.

Wow!  Thanks, TXGUY!

What I needed was a url to save to my computer so I could post the photo.  The only way I knew to do it was create a photo bucket then transfer and transfer and every time I did, it faded the photo.

We are in business now!

I have asked the Tancredo campaign for a photo.  When I get it I will edit this thread and  add it.

Tom Tancredo rides a Harley Davidson around his home in Colorado's 6th District.  I found this web news story about his participation in the Memorial Day Paul Revere Ride last year, long before he decided to run for President.  Tom is not a johnnycomelately on secure borders and immigration control.  At that rally last year he made this statement:

"Tancredo said, “What kind of America our kids inherit depends on what we do today…we cannot afford the massive invasion of an endless line of immigrants illegally crossing our borders…and so, it’s time Americans stand up for their country…I support the Paul Revere Riders on their historic ride through 48 states to warn and educate the American people of the consequences our children face if we fail to secure our borders and regain reasoned immigration.”

sharp tom photo

Under Tom's leadership of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, The House of Representatives has passed many reforms to our immigration problems in this country.  The problem of not getting anything DONE lays in the lap of the Senate where every motion must have a 60% majority vote.

If you are interested in taking back this country from the professional career politicians.
If you are tired of politicians that never live up to their campaign promises Tom Tancredo is your man.
Tom Tancredo "Tanc" is a straight shooting, conservative Republican that has a proven history of saying what he means and meaning what he says.
A rare quality in today's political arena.
Until he opted to join the Presidential race, illegal immigration was a non-issue.  He single handedly brought this issue to the forefront and now virtually all the Republican contenders are mimicking his position.
He is one of the very few candidates out there that has a lick of common sense and an understanding of what direction this country needs to go.
He gets a lots of attention and applause when he puts forth his position on most issues, but is continually ignored by the liberal mainstream media.
He is a true "grassroots" candidate.
So, Grassroots America, we all need to get heavily involved in getting him elected as our next President or our country will most likely be given away to the illegal aliens and the North American Union.
Say goodbye to livable wages, because illegals will do it for less and send the money back to their home countries.
Say goodbye to available healthcare, because illegals have and will continue to use and abuse our emergency room services.
Say goodbye to our social services, because illegals have and continue to use and abuse them, and we have some in this country that encourage it.
Say goodbye to our quality education system, because the activist judges have interpreted "No Child Left Behind" to include illegal alien children.
Rome (the United States of America) burns while Caesar (President Bush and Congress) fiddle.
We can't let this happen!
Not is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country!!!!

NO ONE TRICK PONY:

Davenport, Iowa - Tom Tancredo is talking about taxes. Education. And the war in Iraq.

It turns out the Republican presidential candidate, often labeled a one-trick pony for his consuming hard-line stance on illegal immigration, has some other tricks tucked away in his political playbook.

During a four-day campaign swing through eastern Iowa this past weekend, the Colorado congressman seemingly talked about everything, including the federal gasoline tax, national health care and school vouchers.

A Sunday discussion about religion and its role in why he's running for president against all realistic odds led a church congregation in Bettendorf to circle him in prayer and rename him David for the biblical story of David and Goliath
