With the busy fall campaigning season quickly approaching, Grassfire.org is conducting this nationwide online straw poll to measure where grassroots citizens currently stand with regards to the 2008 Presidential election. No candidate or campaign has authorized or sponsored this survey -- this is an independent survey of grassroots Americans.
Survey results in aggregate will be reported to the national media.
(Note: This is Grassfire’s second Presisdential Straw Poll. Once you compete the survey we will provide you with a link to the results from our Spring 2007 Straw Poll.)
My own personal option for the next election is not so much who I'm going to vote for but who I am not. I am not, will not, vote for any Democrat, none, no way, never. I'm angry at how they have berated, badgered and castigated the current president and administration beyond any decent limit. No, I don't agree with everything this president has done, nor have I agreed with everything any president has done, but I certainly haven't set out to destroy the president, particularly the current president and administration, by such destructive tactics. No matter what any Democrat has to say, it has been purely and simply power. They haven't recovered yet from losing the 2004 election. Poor losers. Hypocrits. Itching for payback. I will neither forgive nor forget their actions. On this one issue alone I will not vote for any Democrat, much less their stand on social welfare programs, taxes, national healthcare, etc. etc. But, let's remember two things. One, that it wouldn't have mattered who was elected president...it just happened to be George W. Bush...but the Democrats would have brutalized any Republican who was elected president. George W. just happened to get in their sights. Two, that when a Republican wins in 2008, you can be sure the Democrats will be worse than they are now....we ain't seen nothin' yet!
There dont seem to be any decent democrats and only a couple of good republicans that get pushed to the bottom by the media liars. I will change my vote no matter what they say.

Isn't question #7 a little bit disrespectful to the Republican candidate who has:
Most Top 3 finishes in Republican party straw polls
3rd most money on-hand
Heck two of these people below are not even in the race!!!!! Hence I left question #7 blank, this should be changed and Ron Paul should be added into this question.
7.
Of the top four candidates from each major party, who do you think is mostly likely to be the next president of the United States?

(select one)
Hillary Clinton
John Edwards
Al Gore
Barack Obama
Rudy Giuliani
John McCain
Mitt Romney
Fred Thompson
RP,
I think this is identical to the spring poll ( see John McCain now about 8th ) and things have changed a bit on the landscape ( see John McCain now about 8th )
I believe Grassfire is trying to see if there is any shift in results from the spring poll questions. Does that make sense ? TD
Question 7 is lame. Paul has a good Shot at Winning both the New Hampshire and the South Carolina Primeries. Ron Paul one 2 different straw polls in New Hampshire and has a huge following with both the Free State PRoject, and the State Libertarian Party campaigning for him. The Republican Party in New Hampshire is very upset with Bush because many see him as the reason they lost the STate legislature and Governer. They're looking for somebody that's NOT a continuation of the Bush regime, and Ron Paul is the only person that fits that Bill.
The Governer of South Carolina Was on Ron Paul's liberty commitee when he was on the House. The Christian Exedous organization is also down there supporting him, plus Paul' come in 1st or 2nd at the couple straw polls there.
That's 2 early state Primeries where Paul has a good shot. If he can win both of those, he's got a good shot at getting enough delegates to win at the national convention.
Paul's got a hugh following in Texas too.
Fred Thompson isn't even running, and McCain's campaign has completely imploded.
Money wise the three frontrunners should be Rudy, Romney, and Paul. Straw Poll Wise the front-runners are Paul, Romney, and Thompson.
you need to seriously drop McCain from "frontrunner Statis" and since Thompson hasn't even announced yet, you shouldn't be including him either.
Really the Top 4 should be Paul, Romney, Huckabee, and Gulliani.

au contraire Ron Paul has not been banned from the White House. To my knowledge Carl Rove did not go into Ron Paul's district to try to recruit someone to run against him.
I left question 7 blank also.
"Now more than ever the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption." James Garfield
Question #7 looks to me like an attempt to begin conditioning me into choosing one of the annointed ones when I enter the voting booth. Sorry, I will not take the bait.
Also, I would submit that conservative talk radio is just as damaging to American society as the so called Liberal media in question 12. Since becoming a Ron Paul supporter, my eyes have been opened to the half truths spewed by both.
Question number 7 is unfair to the person I think is the only real choice for a conservative voter. Ron Paul's absence is glaring. I am sure you have many new members on this site who agree with me, don't alienate us, we are americans, conservatives and patriots too. Give us a poll that isn't biased.
I didn't even notice that Ron Paul was missing because I wasn't looking for him but, I don't think it's unusual that he's not there since he isn't considered a serious candidate anyway by most people according to what I read in the news.
Besides, Fred is running, he's just not announced yet and the Democrats are trying to draft Al Gore. That's why they are in the poll. I think the poll is for the top serious candidates, announced and unannounced.
I do think Ron Paul should have been included though. That would give us a good understanding of where he really stands. I think most of you in here would be very depressed by the facts from a nationwide poll at how well (or not) Ron Paul is doing nationwide. That might be what it takes to get through to a few.

I think you really hit the bullseye. I am in total agreement with you. I believe you about how our next president will be treated because he will be a Republican. That is why I am intending to keep working to see we not only win the presidency but also win back both houses of congress. Everyone is entitled to do as they think is right or best but if a third-party spoiler causes the Democrats to take the Oval Office and remain in power in congress we will all regret it. I sincerely believe that the upcoming election is so important and that we must take getting out the republican vote as our top priority.
It took God, guts, and guns to build America. It will take all three to keep it American only.
I am disappointed to see that Grassfire promotes the election in the same way as the mainstream media - the Orwellian elimination of a candidate with true grassroots support and the only authentic conservative, Ron Paul.
You do Grassfire a disservice and lessen public support for the organization by such censorship.
Please add Dr Ron Paul to your question # 7. He's the only Republican candidate that represents Republicans. The other candidates sound like Democrats.
I am also disappointed in the way this was done. The reason I became involved in this effort was to have a voice and not let msm control the direction of this country. The questions that were asked about so called top tier candidates should have been eliminated and let the people vote without the subliminal questions.
I am becoming very disappointed in the direction this site is heading. I have noticed alot of bickering and attacks on each other, and I am not talking about debates, I am talking about out right attacks. I have been searching for another site to support and become involved in. I do not feel like wasting my energy on fighting not debating with other members on this site. I would rather use my energy and resources in fighting against the direction this country is heading. I have noticed most of the people who are attacking others have not contributed to the efforts and work done here. I have not seen these people bring any information to share with the other members to help know what is going on and what we need to do, either support something or fight against it.
I have been noticing alot of new members on this site and I hope they realize this is not the norm. We have fought hard to get the amnesty defeated along with other good causes. The congress is on vacation, but they will be back in September and we will be very busy, so if you are turned off right now, please do not abandon the real reason most of us are here. I hope we can get back in that direction and quit offending our own members.
I think unless all candidates that are running for President are not included in a question it should not be asked. There is no reason to discuss who has announced or not, they are all potential candidates.
Just my opinion.
