This man is unbelievable, he's everywhere, he's everywhere ! ! !

I thought the ACLU got around, and he is only one man.  He is like a Pit Bull.  He has his teeth in them and he is not letting go.

The BP chief has been dragging his heels and allowing his men to be hung out to dry. Sounds like a good idea.

I think this story came out last week.  He should have been removed as soon as he made the statement.

Yes, I had read this story as well and had planned on writing the Border Patrol in Laredo.  I had thought what a disgrace--abandoning a border town and the men trying to protect it.

It is like a miracle to me as I felt so bad for Laredo, and now Tom is going to take that chief to task.  I'll try to post it.

Tancredo Asks for Laredo Border Patrol Chief Removal

( WASHINGTON, D.C. )Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO) today called for the removal of Laredo Border Patrol Sector Chief Carlos X. Carrillo following public revelation of Carrillo’s August 15th remarks to a Laredo Town Hall forum.

As reported in the Laredo Morning Times and confirmed by a transcript released by the Laredo Border Patrol public affairs office, Laredo Border Patrol Chief Carlos X. Carrillo told Laredo citizens:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The Border Patrol’s job is not to stop illegal immigrants.  The Border Patrol’s job is not to stop narcotics…or contraband or narcotics…..the Border Patrol’s mission is not to stop criminals. The Border Patrol’s mission is to stop terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the country."

“Carrillo’s letter to the editor of the Laredo newspaper did not deny or repudiate these statements. If Mr. Carrillo’s remarks  represent a new mission statement not yet published by the Department of Homeland Security, then Secretary Chertoff needs to come up to Capitol Hill and explain this new mission, because it seems suicidal to me,” said Tancredo.

“If the Border Patrol has developed a new technology that can distinguish between terrorists and other illegal border crossers without first catching them and checking them out, that is good news. But if that is not the case, Mr. Carrillo’s statements are extremely irresponsible and demoralizing to officers in the field.”

Tancredo also criticized the apparent constriction of the Border Patrol mission. “If the Border Patrol is no longer trying to stop illegal entry into our country, border states will have to set up their own border police to halt this flow. I think this will be news to the governors in Texas, Arizona, California and a dozen states on the northern border.”

“Either Carrillo was speaking for the agency or he was not. If he was, then Congressional leaders will need to have a serious ‘sit-down’ with Secretary Chertoff and his Border Patrol Chief, David Aguilar. If he was not speaking for the agency, then Border Patrol Chief Aguilar should remove him for his unprofessional conduct.”

Tancredo said, “My office has had numerous telephone calls from both retired and active duty Border Patrol personnel who say this is a radical departure from the historical mission of the agency and has already had a damaging effect on the morale of the rank and file officers who walk the line.  I hope David Aguilar will repudiate Carrillo’s statements and remove him from a leadership position in the agency. Anything less will leave doubts about the integrity of the agency’s top management and its commitment to controlling illegal entry into our country.”

Thank you kaksdesign, this sounded like something I really wanted to read. And is.Does anyone know how many border patrol chiefs we have and do they get to make their own mission statements,if not they should all be the same right. Is this border patrol chief, David Aguilar the lead guy. Does he answer to Secretary Chertoff .The question is, is their mission statement. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The Border Patrol’s job is not to stop illegal immigrants.  The Border Patrol’s job is not to stop narcotics…or contraband or narcotics…..the Border Patrol’s mission is not to stop criminals. The Border Patrol’s mission is to stop terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the country." I would really like to know the answer to that.It might be a good question for Lou Dobbs or OReilly.

So did they change their mission statement and why. This is from their web site.

The priority mission of the Border Patrol is preventing terrorists and terrorists weapons, including weapons of mass destruction, from entering the United States. Border Patrol Agents patrol nearly 6,000 miles of international land border with Canada and Mexico and nearly 2,000 miles of coastal border. Undaunted by scorching desert heat or freezing northern winters, they work tirelessly as vigilant protectors of our Nation's borders.

That is where we have so many problems , the actual defense of the border is up to the National Guard  and the Coast Guard and only secondary to the Border Patrol . Too many office personnel I guess with nothing to do but write their own job descriptions and mission statements .  Now , this might be an area where Chertoff should start . Too many Chiefs not enough Indians . Who ever is responsible for this information should get so much patrol duty that saddle sores appear on his/her backside .

Working for the CBP Border Patrol

(12/15/2004)

The CBP Border Patrol was officially established on July 1, 1924, under the authority of the Immigration Act approved by Congress on May 28, 1924. Effective March 1, 2003, the Border Patrol, became a part of the newly established Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Border Patrol is an office of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the protection of our nation's borders. CBP unified Customs, Immigration, and Agriculture Inspectors and the Border Patrol into one border agency for the United States.

From its incetion in  1924, the Border Patrol has earned and enjoyed one of the highest reputations among law enforcement agencies throughout the United States. Border Patrol Agents are traditionally known for their intense loyalty and fine esprit de corps. While the mission under the DHS has broadened the scope of the Border Patrol to work in tandem with its border protection partners to fight the threat of terrorism, the primary focus of the Border Patrol remains unchanged---to detect and prevent the smuggling and unlawful entry of undocumented aliens into the United States and to apprehend those persons found in the United States in violation of the Immigration laws. With the increase in drug smuggling operations, one of Border Patrol’s primary duties is drug interdiction along the land borders, between all the United States land ports of entry.

One of the most important activities of a Border Patrol Agent is linewatch. This involves the detection, prevention, and apprehension of undocumented aliens and smugglers of aliens at or near the land border by maintaining surveillance from a covert position, following up leads, responding to electronic sensor alarms, infrared scopes during night operations, low light level television systems, aircraft sightings, and interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence. Some of the major activities are: farm and ranch check, traffic check, traffic observation, city patrol, transportation check, administrative, intelligence, and anti-smuggling activities.

By Monday night, all of the GOP candidates will be echoing Tom's statements on the various shows .  They have realized securing our own country is a much higher priority than tucking tail and running out of IRAQ.

Manipulating and twisting  the mission of the Border Patrol has got to take a lot of nerve, particularly when it is done in the same old "secret" Bush administration way.  Chertoff has a lot to explain, and hopefully Tom will be able to take him to task on it and get rid of or demote that border chief, Carrilllo.  I can't imagine some head of Border Patrol in a town like Laredo telling people at a town hall meeting that the Border Patrol isn't going to watch for illegal immigrants any longer.
