U.S. Rep. Steven Buyer, R-Ind., said he supports the presidential candidacy of former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson, who hasn't formally announced he will seek the office.
Well good for Rep. Buyer. He will be on the winning team with us. LOL, Melinda, I have posted my article twice, doesn't look like it will be favored here on FS, wonder why???
U.S. Rep. Steven Buyer, R-Ind., said he supports the presidential candidacy of former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson, who hasn't formally announced he will seek the office.
Thanks for providing the links Melinda. On The Issues.org is a great link. Interesting that a non-candidate is picking up endorsements. Oh the political games that are played.
So, if Rep Buyer's endorsement is to be meaningful lets look at his record a bit:
Voted NO on military border patrols to battle drugs & terrorism. (Sep 2001)
Voted YES on restricting independent grassroots political committees. (Apr 2006)
Voted YES on implementing CAFTA, Central America Free Trade. (Jul 2005)
Voted NO on withdrawing from the WTO. (Jun 2000)
Voted NO on allowing stockholder voting on executive compensation. (Apr 2007)
Rated 97% by the US Chamber Of Commerce, indicating a pro-business voting record. (Dec 2003)
Voted YES on limited prescription drug benefit for Medicare recipients. (Nov 2003)
Voted NO on allowing reimportation of prescription drugs. (Jul 2003)
Although he has a conservative rating based on this site he supports many Chamber of Commerce driven wage busting immigration policies. I don't know Melinda. Overall he has a good record but when you look at the CAFTA/WTO votes and not wanting to really crack down on the border to battle drugs and terrorism I kind of sense that we have more Status Quo Republicans lining up together. I just cannot vote for that.
I am so discouraged with the Republican Party (as the big-shots represent it) right now and their disdain for the Average American.
Buyer is also opposed to the FairTax. I know because I spent a good year trying to get anything out of him on this back when I was at Purdue but got NOTHING from him. He is a typical neocon whose time has passed.
He came to the Tippecanoe County GOP Straw poll to lobby on behalf of Fred and of course he won this poll while Ron Paul came in 3rd.
I would expect no less of Buyer than to endorse an establishment neocon.

I think it is time to possibly start looking into RonPauls book of life now, LOL...

Well, surprise surprise. It would be hard to have that 97% screw the average American rating from the Chamber "of illegal immigrants" Commerce if you support the FAIRTAX.
What is with these retailers and their dislike of the FairTax? I know, I know I just want them to say it.
Don't have to go to the RonRaulLibrary.org.....I have a better way of showing the voters what RonPaul is made of. The way that he has voted tells me he was smoking an acre of doobies while voting. Stay Tuned, More To Come About Ron Paul, LOL....
P.S. The library of voting is where I have been, and wowwww, is his voting ever screwed up!!! Ron Paul's voting is more wishy washy, the flip of a coin than Tom Tancredo's, Tom T., I apologize to you. I thought your voting was the most screwed up, but it's not, LOL....
LOL, Rep. Buyer has a wonderful Libertarian Conservative rating. Of course nothing is good enough for the Ron Paul and Tancredo groupies. It's plain stupid not to support business, big or small. They are the ones that provide good jobs. I will not support a candidate that wants to punish businesses regardless of the size.
SovereignMan, I didn't find one single bad vote on his record, including those you cherry picked. I noticed you chose not to post the really good ones. Biased are we?? I know that most people are too lazy to check the link themselves and we can't have people thinking that what you posted is all there is so I posted the votes that you conveniently left out and bolded a few. He is very strong on the WOT and that means more to me than anything. What about these votes?

1MadCookie, you aren't kookie or nutty enough to get anything published here. If you want it to show up you will have to post it in one of the active forums. If it tells the truth about Ron Paul or Tancredo it could be deleted but you can try.
The difference between Ron Paul and Fred or any other TRUE conservative is that Ron Paul is a hypocrite and Fred is not. I would rather have an honest President any day over a hypocrite like Ron Paul, not that it matters. Maybe if we say it enough people will get the idea. RON PAUL and TANCREDO don't have a snowballs chance to win the election.

I think people are looking for a candidate who is 100% and perfect. You will never find them. FDT is a good man and would make a great President. I am sure people on FS will disagree with me and some people on FS are not happy unless they can complain. Or they want to believe the conspiracy act!
You are 100% right HFTD. Tom Tancredo and especially Ron Paul are far from 100% perfect as their supporters would have people believe. None of them are perfect. IMO, Fred is the best.

Well said. The candidates that complain seem to get some attention at first from their voting base of like minded pesimists. After a while their message of doom wears thin and Americans see that they have no real solutions. Mr. Thompson has avoided coming into the race early for good reason. His voting base is made up of more reasonable Americans who have a better understanding of what is best for the nation.

The difference here is Rep Tancredo and Dr Paul both offer solutions to the most pressing issues of the day while the expectation of Sen Thompson at this time is more of the status quo and clearly Americans are not going to support that.

I did not say anything about being anti-business. What I said is anti-chamber (multi-national corporation) commerce and their support for destroying American Sovereignty with support for all of these elitist benefiting trade agreements and of course their PRO-ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND MASSIVE GUESTWORKER POSITION!!!

Melinda, didn't you read where I said overall he had a good record? However, I highlighted issues that focused on the most pressing issues of the day which to me are TAXATION, ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION/Security, SOVEREIGNTY & HEALTH CARE.
1MadCookie, you aren't kookie or nutty enough to get anything published here.
Sure he is but articles are delayed before being posted by administrators. Just go to Election 2008 and Create a Thread under whatever heading you would like. Tancredo supporters have no concern about such an effort. The overwhelming majority of us are so open minded about wanting the best for America that we would welcome more information and a better idea if you can find one. But Thompson's record and how he couches his views in doublespeak isn't that idea. Perhaps he will evolve. The thing is Rep Tancredo is already there and has been voting that way for years.
The difference between Ron Paul and Fred or any other TRUE conservative is that Ron Paul is a hypocrite and Fred is not. I would rather have an honest President any day over a hypocrite like Ron Paul, not that it matters.
Why do you say Ron Paul is a hypocrite?
Maybe if we say it enough people will get the idea. RON PAUL and TANCREDO don't have a snowballs chance to win the election.
Is that the same snowballs chance Thompson has if 5-10% of the base sits it out or votes a 3rd ticket/write-in of some sort?

In all history there has only been one person who was 100% percent perfect and he died on a cross two thousand years ago. Being a CFR member, however, is a flaw that cannot get past me. Supporting the status quo just isn't going to fly any more. The real question is, if any of the neocons including FDT get the nomination, will the GOP survive the election? Never forget that their predecessor the Whig Party forgot about its roots and died. The GOP rose in its place. I believe in the two party system of government, I just don't believe in the two parties anymore.

Well, you are right the only man to be pefect is Jesus! Here we go again with the CFR conspiracy. You will always have a two party system. Why, is because there is no money to be made in a third party. I would love to see a good and strong third party candidate.

CFR conspiracy? The CFR is long term organization with a clear track recored of pushing the U.S. into bad foreign policy and treaties through their highly influential members. When the evidence is there for everyone to see, it is no longer a conspiracy, it is a fact. Do not expect us to be bullied any longer by the word "conspiracy".
To repeat: I believe in the two party system of government, I just don't believe in the two parties anymore. Three strong parties would condemn us to rule by a minority. The two party system is best, it's just that sometimes the parties in power either need to be overhauled or replaced.
