YOU TUBE

Can someone help me with viewing YOU TUBE.  When I click on the screen to see a video of a report or speech, it plays ok, except it pauses about every 5 seconds.  Is this normal?

Also, what is TypePad and TypeKey?  I see this often when I want to comment on website forums.

Buffering, what kind of internet connection do you have? Dial up will have to buffer, along with some DSL connections, even the 768KBPS ones.

I run them fine, but im running 6MBPS downstream with 2.8 Up, more than the majority of internet users.

 If you have dial up, thats the issue.

 I don't know about typepad or typekey, but wikipedia does have an article on typepad.

Kind of funny, I personally would think anything over 2.5 is for multiple users downloading or using major amounts of bandwidth.

My brother-in-law uses 768k, works fine for three or four people on laptops in his house surfing.

Yes, the subjective rating compared averages in your state to your own bandwidth speed.

Keep in mind, Cable internet is network orientated, thus, during times like right now, speeds will be down. On weekends especially. A 10MBPS connections would probably hit around 4 MBPS on a weekend in my area, while DSL, NDSL and SDSL will stay exactly the same.

Forgot to mention, if your doing your test from a wireless router in your home, it could reduce the speed by 40% or so, depending on the class and quality of the router.

Right now at 4.3 with only one HP @2.2 GHz 64 bit processor using XP. Should not be having Utube problems but i do.

Ok...its what I needed to know Msbobbie. Your problem is simply your connection speed, its not enough to download a video at a faster rate than it plays at, causing it to "buffer" which is just a way of saying it stops the video, and downloads so many seconds of it then starts playing up again until it hits the end of whats already been downloaded, and starts the buffering again.

From what I know, some services are off, I can go to some bandwidth places and get my regularly 6.0 mbps connection to register as 17mbps or more, very weird.

I figured that the place I gave you to test at, is the best one since I've downloaded files before and watched the actual amount of KBPS per second, then went to bandwidthplace.com/speedtest and found almost the exact same speed calculation, I attribute it to how they have their calculations set with a certain image (you download a image and they use that to calculate your bandwidth) and how well their server performs.

My service can hit true speeds of 12MBPS when I am downloading for more than 15 seconds, but that doesent interfere with the test luckily.

What Brand of processor, what model number of computer, and what amount of RAM do you have.

Oh, and are you connecting through a Ethernet cable to your modem, or using a wireless router in your home.

also knowing the brand of ethernet cable would be nice, quality is important. A connection is ONLY as strong as its weakest link (or wire, or wireless connection, as in your computers internal antenna, most of which are extremely weak), like a chain.

    Could you recommend an ethernet cable brand for me.  I have an old surfboard cable modem and wonder as well about cat 6 or cat 5 and what equipment is required to run either. 

    I get bounced offline now and then and would like to upgrade cables/links etc.  Thanks, TG

I would say a category six cable would be overkill, as its for gigabit ethernet, unless your running a business and need mega capability.

I am running a cat 5 cable from my wall into the modem, another cat 5 into my router, and cat 5's from my router LAN ports to anything else hardwired, (desktop, gaming console like a playstation two, laptop for more security online, etc.)

Or, general electric, which I don't know much about in the electronic cable market, has a cat 5.

Also, to anyone using a highspeed modem, you could try unplugging it from the electric outlet, at the most it would take 24 hours of it being unplugged to reset, then plug it back into the electric outlet, and see if that helps.

This only happens with You Tube.  The sites that use Windows Media Player work great.  No problems.  I really cannot afford to upgrade to a faster service.  I thought I was doing something wrong.
