TITLE

1934: The Plot Against America

DEPARTMENT No Comment
BY Scott Horton
PUBLISHED July 28, 2007

I’m back from the land of heather and thistles, not to mention wee drams and lukewarm ale, but on my way out a friend at the BBC alerted me to this, a not-to-miss program on the BBC this morning, accessible over the next several days by internet. It’s the story of the Plot Against America. I don’t mean the Philip Roth novel, nor even the Sinclair Lewis book, It Can’t Happen Here, but rather the historical events upon which these two works of fiction were based.

In November 1934, federal investigators uncovered an amazing plot involving some two dozen senior businessmen, a good many of them Wall Street financiers, to topple the government of the United States and install a fascist dictatorship. Roth’s novel is developed from several strands of this factual account; he assumed the plot is actually carried out, whereas in fact an alert FDR shut it down but stopped short of retaliatory measures against the plotters. A key element of the plot involved a retired prominent general who was to have raised a private army of 500,000 men from unemployed veterans and who blew the whistle when he learned more of what the plot entailed. The plot was heavily funded and well developed and had strong links with fascist forces abroad. A story in the New York Times and several other newspapers reported on it, and a special Congressional committee was created to conduct an investigation. The records of this committee were scrubbed and sealed away in the National Archives, where they have only recently been made available.

The Congressional committee kept the names of many of the participants under wraps and no criminal action was ever brought against them. But a few names have leaked out. And one is Prescott Bush, the grandfather of the incumbent president. Prescott Bush was of course deep into the business of the Hamburg-America Lines, and had tight relations throughout this period with the new Government that had come to power in Germany a year earlier under Chancellor Aldoph Hitler. It appears that Bush was to have formed a key liaison for the group with the new German government.

Prescott Bush, of course, went on to service as a U.S. Senator from Connecticut, and his son, George H.W. Bush emerged from World War II as a hero.

The Plot Against America portrayed in this episode of the BBC series “Document” gives fascinating insight into a dark and little known piece of American history in which the nation stood on the brink of betrayal. The role of the most powerful political dynastic family in the nation’s history in this whole affair is shocking.

President George W Bush finds it "comical" what people think is going on in the SPP talks, vs what is actually going on.

He has been laughing at average Americans for a long time now. I wonder how many of the super rich have family members in Iraq. It is easy to laugh at the people from whom you conceal the truth. It is easy to laugh at your victims.

There is too much money to be made by some in having borders open to an unrestricted flow of goods, money, and people. For those who benefit from this the most,  to accept anything less than all they can get is just unacceptable to them.

And by using the power of their money and the influence it brings, they will continue to fight the nation's best interests to get their greedy way. Many are getting wealthier every minute by selling us out. Of course they will call all who oppose them vile names to silence them.

We all need to follow the money. That path will normally lead to the right answers about the what and why of what's going on.

Tonight on C-Span,  the 3 Amigos were speaking a little about what they have been discussing behind closed doors.

President Calderon stated "We discussed Sustainable Development and Chemtrails"

Do you understand what he had admitted to discussing?

World Bank's   Agenda 21  for Sustainable Development.

True -- but we have all known about SovereignMan's post for years -- that's why I know GWB has never won a government election.

SovereignMan, I think the Bush dynasty is over, Thank God. We need reminding the front runners, both democrat and republican are every bit as bad if not worse. We are in desperate need of independents in both the white house and congress.

LOL, so true.  But of course I always consider the globalist/elitist position or absolute ignorance of the source.

I live in Florida.  A lot of people here think Jeb did a good job as Governor, some don't.  Of course carrying the dislike of his brother around with him doesn't help the hindsight voters opinion of him.

There are those who keep talking about him as a Vice Presidential candidate.  I just don't know what I would do except campaign against him/the ticket and it has nothing to do with his job as governor.

In a country as large and diverse as ours a concentration of power in families like we have seen is not a positive thing for the country regardless of how well served the patrons are.

NO MORE BUSH's, KENNEDY's or CLINTON's

SovereignMan, I agree completely about Bush's, Kennedy's and Clintons.

Jeb Bush did two things in Florida, the richt to carry, and one has the right to defind ones property when threatened. Here in Ohio just run and let the thieves have it is what we are legally bound to do.

Jeb does not in my openion have a political future. The Georges have so frightened to American People of the threat to our Sovereignty they would not elect him.

Let me look at this I think a family run by a man named Joe Kennedy was considerably more involved in corrupt activities than anybody in the history of the world.

TEXAS: One of the few states that can secede from the Union.

A point: Given the media's interest in candidates' backgrounds relative to who slept with who, and other character flaws, why is it that we heard nothing of this story when the first Bush went into office? Where was the investigative reporting? Kind of proves the media is not as free or faultless as we would have believed. Even though records may have been sealed or secretly filed away, surely a plot such as this had many participants. Were they all so corrupt that not one had the intestinal fortitude to come forward? No gossip slipping out? No campaign backstabbing?

Treasonous actions have to be brought to the forefront. Had this been done, we would not be having the situation we have today. Congress and the Supreme Court have to realize we are not as dumb as they think. But then, we did elect them, didn't we? I realize Supreme Court justices are nominated but they can lose their positions also.

Regardless, we have to be wary of "red herrings" that will be thrown out to delude us into thinking all is "OK" and take us down a different path.

Our first priority should be to reinstate our Constitutional government as it was meant to be - OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE.

Interesting.  On the other side of the coing Unions like the NEA, AFL-CIO and the TRIAL BAR give heavy to the Democrats.  The BIG PROBLEM I see is there is no one giving heavy to a 3rd party.

Wish there was a We The People Party

The Reform Party has basically reformed itself out of business as I understand it.

The Constitution Party is of great interest to me.  Should Rep Tancredo not be the Republican Party nominee I will strongly consider voting their ticket if they run one.

At this point I find Rep Tancredo to be as good a candidate as they (CP) could possbily run so that is the only thing keeping me from being commited to them at this time.

The main point is the Corporate Wing of the CFR can no longer count on my vote.  After a lifetime of them having a lock on it because unborn children have a lock on my heart I have come to accept that they will not get the job done as if it is necessary to save lives.

Therefore, the Liberty Council, Alliance Defense Fund and National Right To Life Council now get the funding the RNC and Republican candidates use to.

We the people need to cut the cord

I am very pro life and anti gay marrage, however I have come to the same conclusion you have. These issues are in the Republican platform only to get the vote of the religious right. If Mr. Bush would have worked half as hard to pass the constitutional amendment prohibiting gay marrage as he did on pushing Trade Agreements and amnesty through congress, I would have some respect for him.

If I didnt stumble on that web site accidentally on Bush family history I would not have known about Prescott Bushes ties to communism. There alot of dark in that family. Personally I dont think its the whole republican party or the whole democratic party. But there is a faction of globalists planted on both sides working for the same goal.

Deport congress and the president!!

If you get a chance go read the patriot act, Witch was just ratified through congress . It has alot more than just the right for cia to spy on phone records in it.!  Right now goverment can do what ever thay want to with the laws. passing what ever  thay need. And you and i cant patition for any info or sue the goverment for any information about it. And bush wanted it made perminent.

CHANCE FAVERS THE PREPAIRED MIND :) The Third Way adds: "...While economic conservatism is premised on the myths of an infallible market and incompetent government, neo-populism is premised on the myths of a failing middle class, a declining America, and omnipotent corporations." I call that independent populism, not neo-populism. And I also call that truth.!But the president isn't the only one lacking in leadership: Congress is hardly doing better. Even though 84 percent of Americans say English should be the official language of government operations, and while 71 percent of Hispanics agree, the Senate Majority Leader called an amendment to make English the official language an act of prejudice. Sen. Harry Reid declared bluntly "This amendment is racist." Such rhetoric from national leaders is unworthy of their offices and fails to elevate the American spirit.
