I know you are all going to think MrT has gone off the deep end here, but I am starting to think that the fence is not the answer. I am 100% for border security but I think we have to address our illegal immigration issue in a different way. I think we need to enforce our current laws and if we are serious about doing that, I believe we will be in better shape. Please give me some feedback, wait...I know I am going to get a ton of it with that statement ....what do you think everyone?
I agree Mr T. However I think the fence is a matter of national security. There are so many cartels comming through and God knows what else. Now they are harvesting crops in America so they dont have to come across the border as much. Both are crucial. But i dont think the fence will solve the illegal issue. Half of that issue is overstayed visas and the refusal or innability to tell if a person is legal or not.
I think we need to do both, MrT. Enforcing our laws will have an effect on the amount of people that come here to try to get jobs and work, but I don't know if it would have much effect on the drug and weapons runners or the terrorists that just come across the border to sell their stuff and get phony papers and blend into society.

The fence needs to be built. It is paid for and was promised. It will help control the border with the use of fewer guards or National Guard troops. As for enforcing our existing laws, that’s a no brainer, I agree, it must be done. When the existing laws are enforced the illegal workers will go somewhere else. When the advantages of a tax less job, free medical, free schooling, free free free whatever our tax dollars will provide goes away so will the problem; however the fence is still necessary. It is a mater of national security and now is the time to do something. This is a major issue and if we are going to get something done we had better do it now or it will get lost in all the political B.S.
It's possible to stop illegal immigration without the fence, but it's actually easier to just build the damn thing.
-What is essential in war is victory, not prolonged operations. -Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win. -There is no instance of a nation benefitting from prolonged warfare. -quotes from the Art of War by Sun Tzu, 6th century BC Chinese General and war strategist.
This is what Senator Coburn said about it today. He said there is more progress being made than is being reported. He talked about the drones and the sensors. He said Border Agents have doubled since he came to the Senate in January '05. All of the SUVs the Agents patrol in have computers in them and when the border is breached they can tell right away and they can tell if it is a coyote, or a deer or a human that tripped the sensor.
But the agents are often several miles apart. He said the 'rules of engagement' need to be changed so the agents CAN shoot a drug smuggler who attempts to flee and mentioned Ramos and Campean.
He supports punishing employers, so the jobs dry up and people won't come here. The ones already here will leave.
I am with those of you who have NAU as your top priority, and agree illegal immigration goes hand in had with it.
GET CONGRESS ATTENTION! CHANGE YOUR W-4 AT WORK AND CLAIM 10 DEPENDENTS SO NO TAXES WILL BE TAKEN FROM YOUR PAYCHECK. WHEN THE MONEY STOPS COMING IN MAYBE THEY WILL REMEMBER THEY ARE SERVANTS TO WE THE PEOPLE.
In a construction project that will eventually reach across 2,050 miles, hundreds of rivers and long stretches of forests and fields, India has been quietly sealing itself off from Bangladesh, its much poorer neighbor. Sections totaling about 1,550 miles have been built the past seven years.
Yet another petition I've signed,......I think the fence is a good start,...then we can get control over the illegal aliens that are in America,..while stopping thousands more everyday from coming in.
Truth just listed the solutions to the immigration problem.

What will we do when large numbers of illegal aliens start arriving at our airports with the proper papers and then don't return home? Will we be forced to put restrictions on flights from other countries? How will we be able to tell who has legitimite business in the US and who does not?
That's where our friendship with Israel should be beneficial. They don't seem to have this problem. Their airport security is second to none and they do not ask benign questions. Visitors to their country are questioned extensively and then they follow through. Good grief, people! FedEx is able to track millions of packages every DAY with precision. Are we expected to believe visitors to this country can not be tracked? At issue is the fact that there is no will within this administration to do so.

I agree 100%.
The problem I have with the fence is I think it will be an eyesore and will still be breached as ALL fences are. Means more taxes to "maintain" the fence as it is breached, and ripped, and decays. Also more tunnels made to go under the fence. Could really help the sale of tall ladders and drilling equipment. A person bent on breaking the law will always find a way around it. Enforce our laws against illegal hiring of illegal aliens. Make America an uninviting place for anyone to even want to come here illegally unless to do so is to harm us and then concentrated on ferreting those sorts out.

The fence is only one small part (but a necessary part) of the solution.

I understand your point but even the Berlin wall which wasn't any 2000 miles long was often breached. The "iron curtain" was breached. And I hope we aren't building a prison if we do build the fence. I do not want to live inside a prison from which I cannot escape if suddenly I feel the need to do so. I may want to "illegally" cross over to Canada or Mexico if "race" riots become to frequent or an attempt at a dictatorial martial law takes affect and it is declared that Americans are not allowed to freely exit from America etc.
I am one that thinks you should always be careful about what you wish for or insist upon having because you just may get it and then be stuck with it for longer than you wish.

The fence is only one part. How many of these deported criminals come back across the border after being deported? They have to be stopped from coming back!We need enough agents to do the job,and a good double fence to stop them from returning again and again.

The last thing I would want to do in case of "race riots" or "dictatorial martial law" would be to leave this country.
I have the good fortune of living in an area where I could easily find a place to stay where no one could find me for months. I have lived further "out in the sticks" than Abe Lincoln did. I have lived where there was no one near enough to see smoke rising from their chimney.
Your argument of wanting to have the freedom to leave this country just doesn't make sense to me.

Every little bit helps MrT. A beaver uses alot of sticks, limbs, and logs to build a dam. The fences may be breached but it'll slow some down enough for USBP to arrive. A small hindrance like a speed bump can help in the end.
