AMES, Iowa, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewsire/ -- Speaking at the Ames, Iowa Straw Poll, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich urged President Bush to call a special session of Congress to pass emergency legislation requiring anyone arrested for a felony to be checked for legal status.

Gingrich cited the illegal immigrant in Newark, NJ who shot four college students execution style, killing three. The illegal immigrant had been arrested twice, including being indicted for raping a young girl and threatening to kill her family. Twice he was released back on the streets.

"Four young people, working hard, studying, doing the right things - three of them were killed, all four were shot in an execution style by somebody who should not have been in America in the first place," Gingrich said in his remarks to a supportive crowd.

Under a new immigration bill, Gingrich wants the Department of Homeland Security to outsource the creation of a secure, accurate system to quickly check legal status of people who commit serious crimes. He wants the bill to require that anyone arrested for a felony be checked for legal status. Lastly, he stipulates that any city, county or state that refuses to do so would lose all federal funding.

"Imagine that those four college students had been your children. Imagine they'd been your nieces or nephews," Gingrich said in the speech. "We cannot expect Mayor Booker to defend Newark if the government of the United States does not defend America and we need to win the war at home fully as much as we need to win the war overseas."

Gingrich made his remarks at the Ames, Iowa Straw Poll where his new political organization, American Solutions for Winning the Future, is conducting educational workshops.

Most of what Newt Gingrich stated was also his position during his interview with Steve Elliott in March.  That's good.  At least he's not sticking his finger in the air to see which way the political wind is blowing.

However, in March he was questioned by Steve Elliott about Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean.  At that time he felt he didn't have enough information to make a statement.  Somebody needs to ask him again what his position is on their continued imprisonment.  It is important for any public figure of his stature to articulate a positon on this as these BP Agents put their lives on the line over many years in what is becoming a more and more dangerous line of work.  Ramos and Compean have now been in prison for nearly 6 months by Johnny Sutton's kangaroo court.

We don't need new "comprehensive" immigration laws. We need widespread, well funded enforcement of existing immigration law, i. e. IRCA 1986. http://www.oig.lsc.gov/legis/irca86.htm ANYTHING ELSE IS JUST A BIG CHARADE! Remember the Alamo AND Agents Compean, Ramos, Brugman, Sipe, Rhodes, Deputy Sheriff Hernandez, K-9 Officer Mohr & Noe Aleman. ***Redress it all by repealing the 17th Amendment to the U. S. Seems to me Speaker Gingrich is positioning himself to enter the race.  I may be wrong, but, there has been much speculation on this matter.  It's not bad that he would enter, because the man posesses great knowledge of how our government works and how to get things done.  That was effectively shown while he was Speaker.  He would bring much to the table and knows how to defend it.

Newt does have the right ideas about how to turn around complicated situations and is able to bargain over them at the same time --in an articulate manner.

Many are opposed to Newt because of his checkered past and his association with the CFR and his globalist leanings.  His two books Winning the Future and Rediscovering God in America do present his views on many subjects, and he includes structured programs to help stop America's downfall.  His program is called American Solutions. http://www.americansolutions.com/

I believe he sees the dangers with illegal immigration and has ways of solving and eliminating them, but his wayward past and global associations have created mistrust.

I am not endorsing him.  I just believe he has some solid ideas for rectifying America's problems.

Seventy-nine percent (79%) of American adults favor a proposal requiring employers to fire workers who falsify identity documents. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 9% are opposed while 12% are not sure.

The survey was conducted as the Bush Administration announced a series of proposals designed to crack down on illegal immigration. One proposal would require companies to fire workers if proper documents are not provided by the employee within 90 days. While this proposal has upset some immigrant-rights leaders, most Americans would like to go even further—74% believe that if a person wants to rent an apartment they should be required to provide documents proving they are in the country legally. Just 17% are opposed.

Earlier this year, the Senate finally bowed to public pressure and rejected a “comprehensive” immigration reform bill that was popular among the political elite but unpopular with just about everybody else. The latest Bush Administration push on enforcement may be another concession to public opinion. Had the increased border enforcement measures been initiated a few years earlier, there might have been more public support for the “comprehensive” reform package favored by the President.

Sixty-eight percent (68%) of Americans believe it is Very Important to improve border enforcement and reduce illegal immigration. That view is held by 80% of Republicans, 62% of Democrats, and 64% of those not affiliated with either major political party. Those figures are little changed from earlier in the year.

The government currently has little credibility in this arena. Just 12% of Americans believe the federal government is doing enough to secure the border and reduce illegal immigration. Seventy-one percent (71%) say it is not doing enough. Skepticism about the government’s commitment to border enforcement led to the defeat of “comprehensive” immigration reform earlier this year. While voters looked saw a reduction in illegal immigration as the primary goal of reform, just 16% believed the Senate legislation would accomplish that goal. Forty-one percent (41%) actually thought the Senate bill would lead to an increase in illegal immigration.

During the debate in the Senate, advocates of the “comprehensive” reform proposal appeared primarily interested in the provisions in the bill that would legalize the status of illegal aliens already living in the United States. Just 28% of Americans consider that goal to be Very Important. Thirty-six percent (36%) of Democrats say it’s Very Important to legalize the status of undocumented workers. That view is shared by 22% of Republicans and 23% of those not affiliated with either major political party.

I saw it, and I'm sure we all did.  We just didn't know there were so many like-minded people because all of the main-stream media, including Fox News, kept giving us "polls" that said most people were in favor of giving the illegals a path to citizenship.  I didn't listen to talk radio, and I also had a lot on my plate at the time.  I think we all felt helpless about what we saw as an invasion.  I think the event that galvanized us all, was when we saw Bush, Kennedy, Kyl and McCain all trying to push La Bill down our throats!  I know that is what did it for me.  That is the day I first googled "illegal immigration" and found all these sites.

I could not endorse him for the same reasons.  I simply don't trust him.  I think we all have to remember how Bush spoke in the beginning.  He had me hook, line and sinker.  I absolutely feel betrayed, and I don't trust Newt any farther than I could throw Bush.

I don't give a damn about membership in the CFR or the KKK or La Raza as long as they do what the American people want. Gingrich is far more intelligent than all the rest of these RINOs put together. The democrats will do anything to destroy anyone that is successful.

I look at it this way. Tancredo would get the job done, but I fear he won't make it. Therefore, I am looking forward to Newt. I don't care for Romney, I sure don't care for Guliani as to his swaying, and I really only see 2 great people that could tear down Hitlary...Newt and Thompson, no not Tommy Thompson, Fred Thompson. You see, things are starting to just now take in a lil muster on the Campaign trail. I wish Fred would get that in there and run now, but, he has his reasons for not doing so. This will all come out in the end if not before. This could turn out to be very exciting. I think Newt did the right thing as for calling to this immigration issue for sure...

Okay guys- I don't wanna get off track--maybe someone could put this on a new thread--I don't remember how to start one--A 15 year-old Texas girl has been raped and murdered by 2 illegal aliens and the press won't release this.  Her name is Dani Countryman--the incident happened July 28th.  Authorities have charged 2 illegal aliens with it.  I know more details but am about to puke.

Go to the start a new thread forums Ohio. It will explain it. I haven't been able to do it, but you just might. Sean has tried to get me to get 2 posts I have and they need to be 400 words or something to that aspect. Then, FS goes over it and they decide wether or not it is worthwhile. I believe you have one heck of a worthwhile post Ohio.

I feel the same way.  I respect Newt for a number of reasons, but I do not want anyone with any connection to CFR in any leadership position in our government.  They are behind all of the real problems we have.  The head of that snake must be chopped off.

I am awfully afraid your choice of candidates is very limited as most people that have been around these think tanks very long are going to be or are members of the CFR. Thats a fact Jack and you just need to sit out and let hillary get elected.
