I am telling you this, not because I am hoping that you fine people will all send her a birthday card, but because my daughter is autistic.  When Christiana was born thirty years ago, autism was rare. In fact it occurred in fewer than one in one hundred thousand births. In those days it was extremely difficult to find doctors or educators who had a clue what was wrong with her or how to deal with it.  She was sixteen before we had a firm diagnosis.

Fast forward thirty years.  More that one child in a hundred is born with autism.  Everyone who thinks this is a natural evolution or devolution, please raise your hand then move the back of the class.

What has happened in the intervening thirty years?  Well, what comes to my mind is the partnership that has grown up between the USDA and Agricorp, allowing all sorts of awful food additives and the FDA and Pharmacorp which pushes every sort of drug safe or not.  That is my opinion and I wanted to share it. Of course I would be most interested in hearing other views on this growing tragedy.

PS.  For anyone curious, Christie lives at home and is my right hand girl.  She is a hard worker, kind and intelligent.  A little strange to be sure, but then again, so is her mother.

Yes, that is a shocking statistic and you are right to ask what happened.  What has happened since the dioxin (I think that's what it was) scare in the 50s?  People cared about the quality of life and "state" of the actually born back then.  Now all they seem to care about are fetuses.

Oh please, don't get me started on the FDA and big drug companies.

Drugs that kill and injure hundreds of thousands of people each year, are safe and OK to use, but natural herbs use to treat people, are dangerous and need to be banned.

CODEX is something to look up if anyone is not familar with it.

Nwind,

What an awsomwe honor and privilege it is to have and to love a precious and perfect gift from God. Although many might see her as less than a perfect human specimen, God knew exactly what he was doing when He created her. Christie, seen through God's eyes is as perfect as anyone on this earth and is as desrving of as much love as can be imparted to any other human being.

Drug companies may view her a cost liability or even as a second hand person, but be assured that God sees her as precious and created her to be a true blessing to Him, you and others.

Please tell her that Phil Covone, in McDonough, Georgia says, Happy Birthday!!!

Love in Christ,

Phil C.

Hi Phil,

Thank you and I shall convey your best wishes to Christie.  When she was young and I did not know what was wrong with her I despaired and asked God why. Why my child?  I don't know what Christie has gained from this experience but I know that I am a kinder, more patient and compassionate person than I ever would have been if she had been born "normal".

Still I am very concerned with the number of autistic children being born today.  Not many families are willing and able to cope with these difficult children and I wonder what will become of them when there are so many. I remember getting a questionairre from Health and Welfare when Christie was in her teens wanting to know when I planned to commit her to a facility.  I about flew into a rage over that!!  Still, that appears to be an accepted course of action and autistic children need more love and attention, not less.  They will not thrive in an institutional setting.

Tell your daughter Happy Birthday.  As Phil said, she is a gift from God. She is a blessing and there was a reason God gave her to you.  I agree that our government does not care about our health.  It all revolves around money and who is making it.   As said in the Bible, money is the root of all evil.  I truly believe that is true since the ones who have money are doing much evil in the world.  There are exceptions but not too many.

nwind - I too would wish Christie a Happy Birthday.  Amazing how God works through our dispair to give us the best.

farmgirl - minor correction - it is the 'LOVE of money' that is the root of all evil.  Money is only a tool that is neither good or bad.

As far as why the frequency of birth defects and the other evidences of nature's decay are getting more prevelant - - well, consider this.  When man (mankind) sinned in the Garden of Eden, it didn't just get them kicked out of the garden.  The garden was perfect with no weeds, or bugs etc.  From that point on,  women had to go through pain to give birth and man had to provide for his family by "the sweat of his brow" and all of nature started to decay.  Centuries later that decay has become more and more evident.  And man has helped that along too.  Ever study what the byproducts of making Clorox do to nature? Others of our products (ok'd by our government) are just as dangerous.  Mankind is responsible for all of this.  We can simply thank God for His intersession (as with the positive side of being blessed by Christie) and we know that (being in the last days) we do not have too many more years for the innocent to be made to suffer by man's inhumanity to man.

Patriot's Pixie,

You're right. The Love of Money is the root of all evil.  I knew that but didn't get it in right.

Hey nwind, God bless you and your daughter and be sure to give her a birthday hug from me, too.  Just know that in the next life in Heaven, she will thrive and she will get to know and enjoy the love and companionship of her soulmate.  Laughing

I'm as curious as you are about why there is such a higher number of autistic children now - and I suspect it could be all the chemicals,  drugs, etc. and I've even heard ultrasound may be a culprit.

We can only pray that God in His infinite wisdom will lead us to the Truth.

I am so wondering about the cause, too, SoCal Native.  And it is not just autism.  How many kids suffer from Attention Deficeit Disorder and a plethora of other diseases unheard of  thirty years ago?  I spoke to a high school student about it.  He was quite astonished when I told him that when I was in school, nearly everyone was healthy.  The occasional child with asthma was a bit of an oddball.  He said there is something wrong the majority of kids in his school.  He could not imagine everyone being healthy.

IMHO I think ADD is caused by sugar overload and poor eating habits, among other things.

And don't forget - our parents, at least mine - didn't do any type of illegal drugs.  I never even heard of marijuana until I was a senior in high school - many moons ago.  Who knows how much of this type of thing is in these kids DNA.

For those that do not know, in order for a drug to be a drug it must have a LD50 or Load Dose 50. What this means is it must have a dose that will kill 50% of the test rats. Anything that does not kill can not be a drug. Now doesn't that make you feel good about the FDA and big drug companies.

Of course, the FDA is so good at ensuring the safety of our food and drugs, I think the answer would be to expand their power and size, don't you?  While we are at it, let's empower the AMA and APA to do more to diagnose and treat autism.  Surely we can count on more government agencies with dedicated bureaucrats and politicized budgets to solve any problem.  We surely can't be responsible for ourselves.  NOT!

Nwind, I hope you see this is an indictment of the government and not of you or your personal situation.  In fact, I have enjoyed your posts and admire you for taking responsibility and raising your girl.  Wish her a happy birthday for me, too!

God bless both of you.

Christie,

                To Christie

The Lord doth wave His mighty hand,

And all on earth are as He planned,

Like the flowers in a field

A single image will not yield

THe wonder of the grace and love

Given to us from above

So dear Christie on your special day

Love and kisses come your way

With blessings for your Mom and Dad

Whose lives you've made so glad

And thoughts of love from folks like me

Who know that God made you specially.

Happy Birthday, Christie

Absolutely, FeedFwd, which I why I posted our story.  That autism has gone from practically unheard of to one child in a little over a hundred in thirty years is absolutely astonishing and clearly not any sort of natural development.  How many more people's lives are going to be made more difficult or even ruined before we wake up to what these government agencies are doing to us?

In truth, most autistic people do not do as well as Christie has done. I believe God gave me this difficult child because there was so much I needed to learn and Christie has taught me more love, patience and faith that I could learned in a dozen lifetimes without her. Christie graduated from high school, though she required special help.  She is my right hand girl on the farm, does crafts and has her own little website.  She Googles everything and other than not being able to drive or maintain quite a normal conversation has a pretty normal life.  So many autistic people have far worse afflictions and end up dumped in institutions.  I am deeply convinced that this is a brain biochemical imbalance that is being caused by food additives, vaccines or some other non-natural occurance: something that has changed over the last 30 years.

Thank you for the lovely poem, misterbill!
