This interview is not dated. It is lengthy but a must read for all of firesociety.
excerpt:
John Hawkins: It's terrible for them to have to wait while other people are sneaking in illegally. For our readers who aren't familiar with it, what is the Matricula Consular and what is the issue that you have with it?
Tom Tancredo: The Matricula Consular is a card issued by foreign governments, not just Mexico, although in this case they're of primary concern. The foreign governments have the ability to provide to their citizens living abroad, ID cards. We can't interfere with that and I couldn't care less about what Mexico wants to give their citizens living in the United States or anywhere else. The issue is whether or not we'll accept them for identification purposes when we know that 99.9% of all Matricula Consular cards are given to people living here illegally. Because you see, you do not need any card issued by a foreign government if you're living in the United States legally. If you're a foreign national and you're here legally, you have something called a green card or a VISA or a stamp on your passport. You have something that the United States government says that gives you the right to be here. We should never, ever, use some foreign government's card to determine whether someone has legal status here in the United States.
About a year and a half ago, Mexico embarked upon a plan -- I have to give them credit, this was a good strategy -- they decided to begin providing Matricula Consular to all of their nationals living in the United States illegally and then use their consular offices all over the country to lobby states and cities to accept the cards, to accept them for driver's licenses, for social service benefits, anything that a regular citizen would use their driver's license for. Some of these cities have gone along with this; we call them "sanctuary cities." What happens, of course, is that it essentially provides legal status for people living here illegally. That's how Mexico is getting around the Amnesty issue.
There is much more on illegal immigration and amnesty in this interview. People must understand that our whole future as a nation depends on how this crisis of illegal immigration is handled.

Interesting interview. He gets it. I am convinced that with Rep Tancredo as President my family will be as safe as possible given the issues of the day.
First of all, for him to become President he will have defeated the neo-cons. That in and of itself removes a lot of danger.
I do not know how long ago this interview was done. He speaks of Rumsfeld in the present tense and he is not talking about his campaign.
I was really impressed with the things he had to say about terrorism and the middle east.
One trick pony my foot!

If Mr Tancredo were a one trick pony, his congressional voting record would not be as good as it is. So far, I haven't noticed one issue where his vote was the wrong way. That, to me is amazing. Check it out at Project Vote Smart.

Local Residents Benefit From Mexican Consulate and WMMC Partnership
Rosa Minerva Gil’s identification card had recently expired, making it difficult for her to do simple transactions like cashing checks. So on Sunday, Feb. 25, Gil invited her husband and daughter for a short walk to White Memorial Medical Center, where she and other Mexican nationals registered for a matricula consular, a special identification card emitted by representatives of Mexican Consulate offices across the United States.
“I saw a sign in front of the hospital, and thought it was a great idea because many of us can’t get away from our jobs during the week to go to the Mexican Consulate’s office,” said Gil, who waited less than 45 minutes to complete the entire process.
Families started to show up at the White Memorial campus almost an hour before the event to make sure they were among the first people to receive legal services and free health screenings.
“More than 300 Mexican nationals benefited from this joint, collaborative effort,” said Consul General Ruben Beltran. “This was a wonderful experience. We’re compelled to continue working with White Memorial in favor of our community.”
White Memorial not only hosted and co-sponsored the event, but also offered cancer, diabetes, vascular and other medical screenings at no charge to the community. Also, a team of nurses from the Oscar De La Hoya Labor and Delivery Center at White Memorial were on-hand to offer free nutrition and health information to pregnant women.
“We are passionate about our mission to serve and our responsibility to be the best neighbor possible,” said Gabriela Barbarena, governing board member at White Memorial and president and CEO of ARAS Enterprises. “We thank Consul General Beltran for partnering with us to offer these vital and much needed services in our community.”
The Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles issues over eight thousand matricula consular cards each month to Mexicans living in Los Angeles.

I found this a while ago, I sent it with my e-mails during the amnesty bill. The consulate's participate heavily with White Memorial. I wonder if they recieve any tax dollars?
Common Sense and Persistance. Do not shoot from the hip, read and learn.
On July 1, 2007 the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 went into effect. There will be no Federal dollars paid to any State for any Social Services to anyone provided to anyone who cannot prove U.S. citizenship or ilegal residency.
States that continue to provide these services do so with State Tax Dollars. Those matricula consular, cards are simply a form of identification, and really worth no more than a utility bill. The Mexican government has told these people that they are equal to a drivers license, but our government does not accept them as such.

That sounds wonderful, but what about the anchor babies? If they claim an anchor baby - or two - - or four they can get "Aid to Dependent Children" for each of those children and if they get paid under the table there is no proof of income. With that, if the father is earning $25/hr on a 60 hour week it does not count as income and the mother still gets welfare for each child and WIC and Food Stamps. I can't tell you how often I been in line in Wal Mart and watched a Spanish speaking family (large family) use food stamps for their groceries and then pull out a $100 bill to pay for the non food items. The cashier will hold it up to the light to see that it is real and I'm standing there looking at the rest of that person's roll of bills that is about a half in. thick and the next bill in the roll is a $100 bill as well.
Until we can wake up our law makers, that the 14th amendment makes only the babies of parents who are under the jurisdiction of OUR law, citizens (that would exclude the illegal law breakers because they have exempted themselves from our laws), we will be stuck paying for all of their babies and they will have much more money than the average citizen.

Thank you for this interview post, msbobbie. Tom Tancredo is the only candidate, except for Duncan Hunter, that has a lick of sense about any of the issues. I am supporting Tom and praying that the Republican debates tomorrow morning on ABC, 9:00, EST will give him the momentum he needs to be pushed to the forefront of the "top tier." We hope that he will be given thetime to voice his views and not be cut off in mid stream. He really is for the American people as well as turning the country into a functioning entity.
Thank you, too, for that update on the Deficit Reduction Act. Hopefully the states won't be whining about "no moniesa" for the poor illegals.

On one of these threads there is another interview ( maybe a link to an interview ) where Tom contends that the 14th amendment has been misinterpeted. It is the interview where the interviewer says "uh-huh" a lot.
I have said many times that the 'laws' that allow for anchor babies was a Supreme Court decision.
I do not know what could be done about the millions of anchor babies we already have, but Tom and a sympathetic congress could certainly put a quick end to the practice and limit the number of extended family they could sponsor.

Here is the interview where Tom Talks about the 14th amendment and social services. It is from the Family Security Matters interview. The thread is FAMILY SECURITY MATTERS/TANCREDO
Mc Laughlin: Okay. How do you understand the first part of our Fourteenth Amendment?
Tancredo: I’ll tell you what - it has absolutely nothing to do with illegal immigration. It was a response to the Dred Scott Decision. It was made entirely for the purpose of assuring that children of slaves would have benefit of citizenship and it has nothing to do with illegal immigrants [anchor babies]. There’s specific wording in there, which would indicate, ah, the case. I think the phrase is, ah, “people have be in the United States and under the jurisdiction thereof,” Umm . . .
Mc Laughlin: Yup.
Tancredo: And, ah, that is an important phrase.
Mc Laughlin: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof . . .”
Tancredo: Yeah.
Mc Laughlin: Okay. Interesting little quote. I hadn’t looked at it that way before. Would you require states and/or cities to restrict federally-subsidized social services to citizens only?
Tancredo: I would if I could. The social services - if they’re not federally funded the federal government really doesn’t play a role in this, but any social services that have federal funds attached - absolutely. Now that’s almost everything to tell you the truth. I don’t know that there’s any county in the United States of America that doesn’t administer some sort of social service benefit that’s supplemented by federal funds, so yeah. Citizenship has got to mean something.
