Riders and attachments

Would like to have someone more knowledgeable than myself initiate a petition to stop adding riders to proposed bills in Congress unless they are related to the initial subject matter.

It seems to me this practice has caused a lot of waste of tax dollars through pork barrel projects - not to mention salary raises that are not known about until after the fact. It probably - most likely - has created the situation we have today. The wheeling and dealing begins inocuously with a rider here - or there - until the big bill is sprung on us. In the meantime, things have been set to roll - the groundwork laid.

The filing system for these bills has to be horrendous, with constant cross-referencing through assorted subjects.

When was the last time you heard of Congress working all night? What nefarious things happened last night?
