Anti-Illegal Immigration Groups to Protest City of Laguna Beach
Protesters to Focus on City’s Misuse of Taxpayer Funds to Support Illegal Day Labor Site

A coalition of Anti-Illegal Immigration groups will gather in a peaceful protest the evening of Saturday, July 21, 2007 between 6-8 pm in front of the Laguna Beach Day Labor Site located on Laguna Canyon Rd. (aka State Highway 133). The groups opposed to this city funded operation will consist of members from California Coalition for Immigration Reform (CCIR), Save Our State (SOS), FIRE Coalition, Latino Americans for Immigration Reform, Campo Minutemen, CASA, San Diego Minutemen, Antelope Valley Minutemen, and Minutemen Support Chapter, as well as numerous concerned citizens.

The goal of this rally is to bring awareness to the fact the city of Laguna Beach is operating an illegal business on public land, which is owned by the State of California Transportation Department (Caltrans). The city currently funds the day labor site with grant money received through an agreement with the Festival of the Arts. In addition to South County Cross Cultural Council (co-operators of the work center) receiving $25,000 yearly from the grant program, the city pays most of their operating expenses. The day labor site has been the highest funded city sponsored program for 10 years, causing legitimate and legal charities within the city to go under funded and financially strapped. In 2005 the city of Laguna Beach attempted to sell the Girl Scout camp to raise capital, but refused to cease the funding of this illegal day labor site.

Because South County Cross Cultural Council requires a mandatory FEE to be paid by both the employers ($5 per worker) and those who seek work ($1 per day) they are technically operating as a business and NOT a non-profit. This is illegal and unethical. Caltrans is aware of the illegality of this business, but allows it to continue unheeded on public land. Due to Caltrans’ lack of action to cease this activity on state land we assume they accept responsibility for it. We will be educating the public with signs and banners to these facts.

Protests against the day labor site due to the decision by the city of Laguna Beach and the state of California (Caltrans) to maintain this illegal business even after the discovery the site has been illegally squatting on public land will continue indefinitely or until the city and/or the state close it.

This event is open to all no matter their sex, cultural background, or nationality. We do not in any manner support, agree with, or accept ANY racism. We are united as Americans. The only requirement is a love of country and willingness to abide by our guidelines.

I can't attend the rally, but as a CA native would have loved to.

Can you also let people know about NUMBERS USA.

For anyone not sure if they think illegal immigration is effecting them and their quality of life, this is a good starting point as it has tons of statistics that will show them how this is effecting our country now and how it will continue to do so in the most terrible of ways in the not so distant future.

Good Luck and hopefully next time I will be able to attend!!!!

Really appreciate all you guys are doing!!!

We decided to have TWO protest location areas this night, because Laguna Beach is in the midst of their "high" season. The traffic is completely perfect for rallies and protests. More people will see our signs during this time of the season than any other. It sounds like things were good at Main Beach. The protest at the DLS was very successful. There was approx. 50-60 Patriots. Many drove from San Diego and Los Angeles. I good showing of OC people. Our signs were very creative and the messages mixed. Lots of STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION signs. No Amnesty. Close the Day Labor Site. I help signs targeting Caltrans and the City of Laguna Beach. It was important for the public to know the DLS is operating on public land. There was one awesome sign of our State Senator Tom Harman's face and the message was "Comply with Federal Immigration Laws. Shut down the day labor site!". I LOVED THIS SIGN! Tom Harman has done nothing to shut down this illegal public land use. He deserves to be targeted for protest. There were the usual goons. Mostly stupid kids that don't know better and just want to be a part of something. It looked like one of them brought their Mom to stand with him and make sure he got home in time for his curfew. The police were professional, except at the beginning of the protest our main contact, Officer Raehauser, went over to the day labor site and shook each and every workers' hand and stood and chatted and laughed with them. I thought this extremely unprofessional of him and an intentional action to show us exactly where he stood on the issue. There were also 2 Dept. of Justice watchers there. They were very nice, but did not give up much information as to why they were there. The man, James Williams told me he was closely linked to Ted Hayes. Hmmmm? Over all the protest was good. We got the message out. The response from the passersby was VERY VERY positive. Lots of thumbs up, horn honks, shouts of approval. Two local papers were on hand. And the OCRegister sent a photographer. Please keep in mind that anyone or any group can organize a protest in Laguna Beach. I will be happy to answer any questions from those who wish to continue here. After the protest many of us went to Bakers Square in Lake Forest. We had four huge tables of people. WE took them by surprise and they weren't ready for such a large group. The service was very poor and very slow, but we all enjoyed chatting while we waited. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT! THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO STOOD AT MAIN BEACH. THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO CAME TO THE DLS. Let me know when you are ready to come back. Maybe a morning rally to get some pics of the pick ups? Or an afternoon rally at Main Beach with all the beachgoers, surfers, and tourist. (It right across the street from a Starbucks!) THANKS AGAIN A MILLION TIMES OVER!

BE SURE TO ADD YOUR COMMENTS BY CLICKING ON THE LINK http://www.ocregister.com/news/protes... Monday, July 23, 2007 Protesters target Laguna day labor site Immigration protest slowed traffic along Laguna Canyon Road Saturday evening. By CHRISTA WOODALL THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER With shouts of "God Bless America" and "USA! USA!" about 40 anti-illegal immigration activists lined Laguna Canyon Road Saturday evening to protest against Laguna Beach and Caltrans. In the protest's crosshairs was the day labor center, where workers can solicit temporary employment regardless of immigration status. Protestors argued that the city of Laguna Beach used taxpayer money to fund and support an illegal day labor site, said protest organizer Eileen Garcia. The protest also railed against the California Department of Transportation for allowing the day labor site to operate on California state land. "Legal is OK; illegal is not," said demonstrator Vaughn Becht of Westminster. "If they [immigrants]are here legally, then I'd welcome them with open arms." The protestors came from anti-illegal immigration groups from across Southern California, including FIRE Coalition (for Federal Immigration Reform and Enforcement), Latino Americans for Immigration Reform, San Diego Minutemen, Campo Minutemen, Antelope Valley Minutemen, Save Our State, Citizens Alliance for a Secure America (CASA), and Minutemen Support Group. An additional eight protestors from the California Coalition for Immigration Reform demonstrated at Main Beach, Garcia said. About 27 counter-protestors, including day laborers and Laguna Beach High School students, also gathered at the day labor site. Homer Gomez from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, responded to anti-illegal remarks from the protestors. "I come here for work every day," Gomez said as the evening wound down. "I don't come here for problems. I have been here for work since 5:30 in the morning." As the rally wrapped up, protestors chanted "USA! USA!" as the police stopped traffic and escorted us to the parking side of the highway, Garcia said. In response, the counter-protestors pointed at the activists, chanting "KKK! KKK!" Sgt. Bob Rahaeuser, traffic sergeant with the Laguna Beach Police Department said the protest tied up traffic on Laguna Canyon Road for two hours Saturday night as drivers slowed to view protest signs. "Other than hurling insults, there were no acts of disobedience," Rahaeuser said. (Freelance photographer Dominique Riley contributed to this article.) It is funny how the goons like to chant the "KKK" when many of us protesting were Americans of different ancestry. How about Huntington Beach in the morning and Laguna Beach in the afternoon? Dude, we can send some more awareness in those areas alone and I will be spreading the word out in Myspace the next time they have events like this. You know it was funny how the rookie cop from LBPD got too defensive about how the Goons used too many cursing and said to us, "IS CURSING A CRIME?!?!" Well, I guess we know where his allegiance lies with? :-) rwoo1983
