WND: Grass-roots Americans recently took action that apparently did influence the Senate to defeat the immigration proposal that was pending. If Americans hold such similar views on security and immigration, what is holding back your campaign from garnering more support?

TANCREDO: For one thing I think it's the result of the fact there are some superstars in the race. Name recognition and money together sort of suck up a lot of the oxygen in the room. We're talking of course Giuliani, Romney, and there was for awhile McCain. I think that star is fading. But it's being replaced to a certain extent with the hype around Fred Thompson, so you have these big names, well-known, lots of money, it's difficult for anybody in that second tier. If you look almost everyone stays exactly [the same]. There's no one, there's not a single person in that second tier that has advanced anywhere. They all end up in single digits until after the Iowa straw poll. I think that will be the first thing that changes the dynamics.

If I do well enough in the Iowa straw poll then we will, believe me, the polls will change, the money will come in at a larger rate. You know what, somebody did an analysis, a news report, and our campaign had the highest percentage of small donors of any of the campaigns out there. Seventy-six percent of our contributors, 76 percent, are contributors of less than $100. We've raised over $3 million bucks. (Had 1.3m 1st qtr) I am so proud of that. That's a constituency I don't have to buy. That's the whole point. They're wonderful. They're there. God bless them. They send in a few bucks. In order to keep that going you have to give them hope that your candidacy is viable. And in order to have a viable candidacy you have to do well in the Iowa straw poll. That's the first shot out of the box. That's Aug. 11. So that's where we're going to put a lot of emphasis and see what happens.

I wear my Tancredo button everywhere I go.  I am beginning to find people who know who Tom Tancredo is.  Until recently I had not talked to anyone that had heard of him.

I am going to have to order some buttons!  I have a bumper sticker on the front and back of my car.  They see me coming and going.  I wear my TOM shirt everywhere.  I have printed brochures from his website.  I hope to be able to bring some stuff back from Ames next month.

After we get moved and I get some unpacking done, I'm sending for buttons, shirts and bumper stickers.  My kids all think I'm a little nuts about this whole political thing (never have been very active) and just laugh at me... and I tell them, hey kids, it's YOUR future I'm fighting for and YOUR children.  You should think about what would happen if your generation did the same!  Our oldest is 39, our youngest 26.

I don't think we 'got it' either at the kid's age.  But I remember when I was in high school, my Mom being a Goldwater fan - so excited when she got to go to the convention in S.F. and was sooooo pi55ed when he lost!  My dad was a Dem.  Made for some pretty interesting conversations.

And you're right...when was the last time we REALLY had a worthy candidate??

Hey, I found the link:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=56650

The reason I wanted to know this is because I called his campaign headquarters this morning and the guy that answered said he's in the office this weekend to wrap up the financial disclosure report that's due tomorrow.  I told him he didn't have to give me an outright answer, but I wanted to know if Tom did better than the first quarter, and he said yes, a little higher!  Yippee!

I know I donated a lot more the second quarter than the first, as I'm sure most of his Team Members did.

God bless Tom for being so thrifty.  What he isn't doing that other candidates are?  His campaign isn't asking for very much money at his fundraisers.  For instance, I saw him at the Nixon Library and all they wanted was $50 to $100, which I thought was a real bargain.  At another private fundraiser the night before, donations of $250 were requested.

Conversely, supporters of both Romney and Guiliani in my community held $1,000 fundraisers.

From what I understand they can only collect $2,000 from one individual for the primary race.  So if the top tier candidates get all their support earlier, rather than later which is most likely Tom's strategy, this could bode well for him.

In any event, let's keep giving Tom as much as we can because as far as I'm concerned, he's the last best hope for America.  He reminds me so much of my beloved President Reagan.  Straight talking and to the point.

Go Tom Go!

I think individual contributions are $2300 to a Federal Candidate.  That stuff is real confusing to me but here is a website that tells what the contribution limits are and links to the laws:

Might not mean much in the end but until the end is at hand I believe in doing all that you can.  Right now Tancredo's calling card is unique donors since Corporate interests and lobbyists are not going to be donating the big bucks.

So, I send $100 the first week of each quarter.  I try to stress to everyone that is interested that if they can just send $10 it matters and makes you part of the process.

Every little bit adds up,
