Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo was the only Republican candidate for president to show up at the forum.

Tancredo took the stage at the closing session of the group's national convention to a standing ovation. He was flanked by lecterns with placards for nine other GOP candidates -- all no-shows.

"Do you think we should wait a few minutes for the other guys to show up?" Tancredo asked. "Do they know something I don't know? The fact is, I know something they don't know."

Tancredo used his opening statement to sound off on his favorite issue: "Massive, uncontrolled, illegal immigration."

"Why is this happening? Because the federal government refuses to do its job," said the long-shot White House hopeful.

He called amnesty for illegal immigrants "a slap in the face to everyone who came here the right way."

All Republican candidates were also invited but some said they had scheduling conflicts.

I have been thinking about the NAACP convention, and wondering if Tom would be invited.  I am glad he was and did appear.

The NAACP generally endorses Democrat candidates because Democrat candidates generally promise them more entitlements.  I believe the African-American voters are waking up to the fact that those entitlements keep them enslaved and discourage them from self improvement.

I pray that this year they will see that it is the Democrats that are hurting them with their stand on the illegal alien issue.

I'm just surprised that the black community has not been speaking up about illegal immigration. It affects them equally as the non-black communities.

When I went to the Phoenix anti-amnesty rally, I saw only 5 blacks. A husband/wife and their 3 kids.

The great thing about it was he was carrying a pro Tancredo sign!!!  I just had to shake his hand.....

GO TOM!!!

The effects for blacks is going to be tremendous from less goodies to be passed out to the loss of elected seats due to the Brown vote going to Hispanics. Blacks and whites are going to be in the minority very shortly.

TANCREDO

I just sent in a small donation to his campaign.  He's the only one I'd give a dime to.  Yes -- you'd think African-American voters would see the Hispanic invasion as something very, very negative.

The black community needs to recognize that the Democratic Party is not necessarily the party of the people -- especially now.

Ive read articles where the black organizations did complain the illegals were taking their jobs. I wondered at that time if they would join us in the fight, but I guess they still want to stay alone and only push for blacks.

I am only guessing, but is it possible they are afraid of turning politicians against them if they do speak up?

Plus, someone wrote on another thread about how our African-American community is targeted by the hispanics.

Amazing how Tom always gets standing ovations and you still dont hear his name mentioned on the TV...lol.  I guess it shows the people love him. Its been mentioned how his funds were small and he doesnt get huge amounts like the other candidates. Ive thought all along that because his donations were all in small amounts that it showed they were from people like you and I and not huge corporations he promised to pay off later like the others. just signs of healthy life.

Tom deserved the standing ovation.  He has tried everything he can to get the right message to every group out there.  I am going to make a donation as well.  I saw on his site that 76% of his donations come from people donating $200 or less.

About a month ago, his average donation was $59.  I keep sending money, not large amounts, but frequently.  If he doesn't get elected and the Dems do-they'll figure out a way to take my money so I'd rather give it to Tom.

Only One Republican Bothers To Attend NAACP Convention In Detroit

July 12th, 2007 · No Comments

Copyright- The Detroit News

The NAACP held its Presidential Forum in Detroit yesterday, inviting all of the 2008 candidates to attend. While all of the Democratic candidates attended, only one Republican candidate accepted the invitation.Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo from Colorado spoke to the convention and received a standing ovation from the crowd. The Detroit Free Press reports that the ovation was mainly because he took the time to attend. Tancredo is a leader in the virulent anti-immigration movement in the Congress, and he previously posed with homophobic television star Isaiah Washington in an attempt to establish his anti-racist credentials.

In other news from the NAACP Convention, all of the Democratic presidential candidates attended. Senator Barack Obama was clearly the headliner, but according to the Free Press, Senators Hillary Clinton and John Edwards also received warm welcomes. So did Chris Dodd, who got a hearty cheer after he started his speech by saying, “I’d like to thank the NAACP for allowing me to follow Barack Obama.” The candidates all discussed ways to stop racism. Obama noted that “…despite all the progress that’s been made, there’s still more to do…. There’s more to do when more young black men languish in prison than who go to college in America.” Apparently, Rep. Tancredo is the only the Republican candidate concerned with such problems involving racism.

In a related story, sneaky folks over at ABCNews noted that Senator Clinton was caught whispering to Senator Edwards during the convention — talking about having their campaigns collaborate. “Our guys should talk,” Clinton reportedly said to Edwards, unaware that an open microphone could hear her. The two leading Democrats appeared to agree to some collaboration. Is this an early sign of a Clinton/Edwards ticket?
