All or most that address the Fairness Doctrine issue, always mention "public airways." Can anybody tell me when and how the public acquired the airways?
As far as I know, the public/government never, ever paid any money or signed a decree pertaining to actually ownership of the airways.
When Hertz, Marcone et al did what they did, did Joe Public jump up and pay via tax dollars?
Why, then, are the "public airways" being used to broadcast TV and radio signals in a language, Spanish, that the vast majority of the public, US citizens, do not speak?
Taking back "our airwaves" for English only programming is yet another way to make illegals' stay here uncomfortable and convince them to return home to enjoy their "entertainment". That goes for the Chinese, Arabic, and other stations as well.
the reason I want an answer to that question is thus:
liberals and politicians are touting the reinstallation of the 1986 Fairness Doctrine ....talk radio is soo bad and one sided, they need a "level playing field" to voice their side.
In my opinion NO-ONE owns the airways. No-one has ownership- radio is a free market concept and programming goes to those that draw an audience and sponsors.
The idea of the public owning the airways is another government con job to control, tax and regulate how they see fit by giving/taking ownership of "real estate" that doesn't exist!
legalcitizen: your last post answers the question. If the government can take control of something, it will.
That's why Feinstein brought up reinstating the misnamed Fairness Doctrine. As an ultra-leftist, she believes the government OWNS everything and should control everything. That is, the liberal-controlled government.
When she saw the failure of Air America to spread its leftist propaganda and lies, she knew she had to act. After all, the radio airwaves are the only avenue that isn't controlled by liberals and that is totally unacceptable to her and her leftist comrades.
In order to control the people you have to have complete control over every avenue of communication.
If Feinstein had her way, she would do what Venezuala and all other socialist states with dictators do. State takeover of all communications.
Things with the liberals are alway labeled opposite of what they actually are. Fairness doctrine is actually reverse discrimmination doctrine. Let liberals bully the conservative doctrine because they are not getting enough attention.
Ohhhh busygirl, you have touched on another one of my pet-peeves- we all use the phrase "reverse discrimination" even Michelle Malkin with all her brains...the reverse of discrimination is no discrimination..a good thing imo, why is the word discrimination owner by certain parts of the population? The rest of us have to use an erroneous phrase like "reverse" to describe the same verb. Just another of my soapboxes......
To claim race for priviledges that should be given to all is reverse discrimmination as far as Im concerned. I think all people should be equal if they are legal citizens. And Im sick of people using children to get what they what for themselves and for their own agenda.
I hear you busygirl, I fully agree but as I'm thinking, discrimination is as you describe- why do some OWN that word? As with the amnesty idea- if all else fails label it racism and/or discrimination- the dirty words of today! For everybody else it's an erroneous word added.......
Back to Fairness doctrine, "public" airways: How about fairness applied to the news media- ie newspapers. Don't they use PUBLIC owned (yeah Joe Taxpayer really bought and paid for those!) roads to distribute their wares/liberal biased POV by delivering to all their outlets/subscribers?
I agree. It becomes a war of words to either build up a point or downsize it, to change opinions, as in the difference between undocumented or illegal. I dont know who else uses the term. I just thought of it one day when Jessy Jackson was doing his I cant get my way fit in the news. Some people feed off of the race issue. Its their life and they cant get what they want unless they bully others. The race issue is a club to use.
And like you said back to the Fairness doctrine. I think they just want their foot in the door. They couldnt run it when they tried and now they are mad because we the people are using it so effectively. That was the first reaction that Lott had. That made me mad. How dare they tell us we cant communicate with one another. How dare they call us mean spirited and bigots, when they ignored us completely and still are. Its their job to listen to us.
I do beleive there is discrimmination. It may not be as bad as it was. But alot of it now is brought on by people like Jessy Jackson stirring the racist pot. I guess they just didnt expect us to answer back.
Well it seems to me that just like everthing else...the government got control of the airways in '34 by establishin' the FCC and all this cryin' about "fairness" just sorta got ignored except when big politcal issues came along to bicker about. I figure Lainie's right about how anybody's got a shot at broadcastin' their political persuasions and viewpoints...long as they can raise the capital and sponsors to start their stations and programs. Then, if it doesn't fly so high and nobody really salutes it that much, like "Air America"(I liked the TV show better), it's just gonna pass away and that's too bad. But at least they had a crack at it. Right? With the internet and cheap podcast software, anybody can do it...Yeah, I guess it's true that conservative corporate ownership of the radio networks plays a big part in establishin' the major stations out there, but ya gotta figure the only reason these guys are popular is 'cuz they're hittin' the right chords with the moral majority who can generally relate. Their cream does rise to the top so to speak. I Used to be a Rush Kid, got into Hannity, bored with Boortz, suffered through Beck, and disgusted with Savage...so frankly...I been checkin' out alot of them talk shows and I always seem to come back to the guy on Genesis...Alex Jones. Yeah there...I said it...wide awake now people!?!
I hooked into his streamlink from infowars.com and you can always checkout his podcasts which are about a day behind on iTunes. He's pretty expressive and a hell of an activist...but he loves the Constitution and just bein' a regular American guy. His viewpoints ignore party lines and man will you get some insight!
Welcome "Tired," the more the merrier.............I wonder how many really disagree with all of the plain folk American POV? or is disagreement in reality just from the politicians and powers that be that had too good for too long??
"Polls show" is a favorite opening statement, have any of you ever been polled?
I sort of like the old way , if the public doesn't want to hear it turn it off . I was just thinking how I miss the old clandestine closet broadcast college stations of the 60's , good comments and freeflowing good music to boot . Ther were a couple of times you could hear the FCC crash the doors down and silence the station too . Very interesting seeing as how all real estate is sold to include " to the center of the earth and to the blue skies ". Except for the exceptions !
Vote Responsibly and if you don't vote don't complain around me .
Public Airways are am/fm radio and regular tv. The fairness doctrine will not affect XM radio , cable tv and internet where we have to pay a fee to use them.
I started another thread this morning, I forgot, "We can get behind McCain on this" ??? He and two other Republican Senators have introduced legislation to prevent the fairness doctrine from ever rising again from the dead.
