President Felipe Calderon of Mexico reacted sourly to news of the Senate's rejection of the proposed immigration law overhaul, calling the senators' action "a grave error."

"It's a grave mistake first because it's a problem that's not being confronted, and with this evasive action the U.S. Senate is making it worse," Calderon told reporters in Mexico City during a joint news conference with President Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua, who is finishing a two-day visit to the Mexican capital.

"Secondly, because to close the door on legal immigration, the only thing the Senate does is open the door to illegal immigration" the Mexican president said, according to an account published by the newspaper Reforma on its Web page.

Calderon repeated his "repudiation and rejection" of plans to build a wall along much of the U.S.-Mexico border.

More than a tenth of Mexico's 103 million people are estimated to live in the United States, many of them illegally. Hundreds of thousands of Mexicans, and others from Central America, continue to cross the border every year illegally in search of work.

Mexico's emigrants last year sent nearly $25 billion home to family members. That money has become an important anchor in many rural communities and poor metropolitan neighborhoods.

Ortega, a one-time Marxist president of Nicaragua following that country's 1970s leftist revolution against a U.S.-backed dictator, was in Mexico City to strengthen ties with Mexico and also to visit the shrine to the Virgin of Guadalupe.

The Nicaraguan president had vowed to visit the shrine if he won election this year, which he did, returning to power 17 years after being voted out of office.

The President of Mexico can pack sand. We will be taking care of the problem through attrition and building the wall! He can say all he wants...he never wanted the problem solved anyway. Guys, is that a typo or is that man off his rocker?  Does he actually say in the 3rd paragraph "close the door on legal immigration, the only thing the Senate does is open the door to illegal immigration"?!

I do not remember this bill addressing our legal immigration problems, only the illegal ones.  But I wonder how many of our high and mighty leaders are agreeing with him.

A year or so ago when Vincente Fox was still prez and visiting America, Washington state was one of the 3 states he visited, and while here, he demanded to be taken to see "his" people, ie the illegals in Eastern WA, Yakima area, who pick apples, so they went in a bunch of limos across the mountains to see them, HIS people!!  And they interviewed one migrant who had been here illegally for 11 years and still spoke no english, now THAT is someone who wants to be a citizen, eh?? If he has no intention of learning anything like english or about this country other than where the next job is, then he is not something we want as a citizen, no wonder they don't assimulate!!

OK so we have two incompetent Presidents, border to border who can't figure out how to make their countries sovereign.

My suggestion - give the job to someone else who can.  Trust me there are literally millions of legal American citizens who could do this job in a minute.

They could build the fence, put up the survelillance, hire the border patrol in half the time or less.  I see them at work all over the country and they are smart, bright, competent hard working Americans.

They are building hotels faster than you can blink an eye in Las Vegas so I am sure a fence even a double fence would be a cake walk.  They are recruiting and training American service men 24 / 7, and they don't have the word "can't" in their vocabulary and obviously they have something that neither of these two men do, which is the need to succeed at tasks at hand.

If Mexico can't solve it's problems then we need to cover our side and if Bush and Chertoff can't do their jobs then we need to have some lay offs and get someone who can.

Hey look at any freeway construction site, they use those 12-20 foot concrete walls all the time along freeways to seperate areas from the freeway or as a buffer to keep the noise of a freeway down & out of neighborhoods--so why can't they start using some of those?? It doesn't take from 1986 to now to get those walls up and in place!! 

Or go to Israel and look at their fence, they are doing a good job there building one, people have been building fences since there have been people, so they can't tell us we can't do it!!  There is NO WAY if we could put a man on the moon in a decades time in the 1960's that we can NOT build at least 800 miles of fence in a year or two, it is just getting the will to do it and our congress and prez don't have that will!!  This congress and prez are the big 'we can't" administration and we need to get elected a bunch of "we CAN" people from now on!

Fact ; Mexico houses a man who will soon pass Bill Gates in total wealth.

Fact; Mexico has one of the biggest disparities in the world when comparing wealthy to poor ( do your own wealth redistribution )

Fact; Mexico has vast oil reserves found for them in the Gulf of Mexico by US oil interests. ( do your own wealth redistribution )

Fact; Mexico has gold and silver deposits not to mention other mineral wealth ( do your own wealth redistribution )

Fact; Mexico has fewer people to deal with than the USA  ( should take fewer people doing the ciphering for wealth redistribution )

Fact; Mexico has more people dissenting against the government , to include armed rebellion ( this from a smaller base population ) for God's sake , keep these individuals .

President Calderon's statement calling the defeat of the Amnesty Bill a grave error sounds more like a threat. The President of Mexico should realize that Bush is not backed by the same type of political machine he has in his country. Mexico has been happy to send their poor here so they will not have to be delt with there.

President Calderon should realize that the citizens of the United States will fight to the death when it comes to protecting our country. It's just sad so many of our elected officials don't really know what freedom is all about and that it is the people who decide the future not politicians.

If the President of Mexico spent as much time worrying about what we do in our country as he should for his own country maybe he could actually get something done in Mexico to improve it. However, I really don't think he "wants" to.

Look at what happened here in America last Thursday. Americans from all over the country came together and demanded that the Senate "kill the bill".  We have a problem in America, and Americans are trying to fix it. How often do you hear people in other countries around the world blame America when they have problems? Daily, right?
