Congradulations to everyone who sent faxes and called their congress. Now is the time to work at getting legislation to require businesses to match social security cards of new hires and existing employees with the social securitiy adminstrations database. This is the one piece of ID that you cannot get legally without being a citizen. They can get forgeries and I have seen them, but you run a check on the card and you can tell if it is fake when someone elses name is attached to it or it is invalid or it was even issued before they were born or it has multiple names associated with it. When you see one of these flags on the online check you can call SS and they will let you know if the person exists or not. This will lead to self deportation and considerably slow down the influx of illegals into this country. There are only so many "under the counter jobs" and if we keep them out of the legitimate workforce they won't stay.
The law is already in place, it is just being ignored.
Someone needs to crack down on the temp agencies and start raiding the places where day laborers congregate.

While the Senate is poised to take up the Bush-Kennedy bill, Representatives in the House continue to look for their own ways to fight illegal immigration. In particular, as the House Appropriations Committee debates the appropriation bills needed to fund various federal agencies for fiscal year 2008, Members have been offering amendments to restrict the flow of federal tax dollars in ways that benefit illegal aliens. Currently up for consideration in the Appropriations Committee is the Interior and Environment appropriations bill (H.R. 2643), which provides for the environmental and conservation needs of the United States and its natural resources - including funding for clean air and water initiatives, as well as ensuring pristine national parks and historic structures.
H.R. 2643 increases the President's budget request by almost $1 billion, most notably increasing funding for the Environmental Protection Agency by $887 million over the President's recommendation. This money includes billions of dollars directed to construction and related projects that will be carried out by government contractors. Foreseeing the potential for fraud and abuse, Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA) is sponsoring an amendment to H.R. 2643 to prohibit funding contractors or organizations that do not participate in the Basic Pilot Program/Employment Eligibility Verification System.
The Basic Pilot Program is a government program that allows businesses to use the internet to submit the social security numbers of new hires to ensure that they are legally authorized to work in the United States. Under the Basic Pilot Program, an employer submits a name and number to the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security. Those names and social security numbers are checked to make sure they match and are legitimate. The costs for employers to participate in the program are minimal, ranging from $0.04 to $0.32 per transaction - hardly a significant amount considering contractors every year are granted multi-million dollar contracts from the U.S. government. This is an important program, critical to ensuring that employers do not hire illegal aliens.
While we know there is a great deal of activity going on in the Senate, it is important to maintain pressure in the House of Representatives. Please contact your Representatives urge them to support the Kingston Amendment to H.R. 2643!!!
