WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives this morning voted to withhold federal emergency services funding for "sanctuary cities" that protect illegal immigrants.

Anti-illegal immigration champion Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., sponsored the measure, which he says would apply to cities such as Denver and Boulder. He was elated by its passage, which stunned critics and supporters alike.

He needs lots more press.

Finally action is being taken against those cities who choose to ignore current law. Cities do not get to pick which laws they will or will not obey, just as citizens don't get to pick-or-choose which laws we will obey.
See article below:
A strike against Sanctuary Nation

There was a glimmer of hope on the shamnesty landscape today in the House. Stalwart immigration enforcement proponent Tom Tancredo won approval--by a significant margin--of his amendment banning DHS funds for renegade sanctuary cities. From Rep. Tancredo's website:

U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo’s (R-CO) amendment to cut funding from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Bill (H.R. 2638) for cities that employ a sanctuary policy passed the House with strong bipartisan support today; 234 to 189.

“The times, they are a changing,” said an exuberant Tancredo, who had introduced the same amendment several times in the past with far less support. “This should also serve as a warning sign to the White House and supporters of re-introducing an amnesty bill from the Senate. If that legislation makes it to the House, it is in serious trouble.”

The Amendment would prevent cities like Denver and San Francisco who employ a sanctuary policy for illegal aliens from receiving first responder funds, including law enforcement and terrorism prevention grants, among other programs.

It's a step in the right direction. The Democrat support for the bill--234-189, with no fewer than 49 Democrats voting in favor--is a good sign. Is it a sign of things to come as the second Senate showdown looms next week?

We'll see.

In the meantime, sanctuary cities are on notice: Defy immigration law, risk your homeland security funding. Too bad the White House refuses to send that message.

Previous sanctuary blogging.

It will still have to be approved in the Senate.

What excited me about this is it appears the Representatives in the House are getting the messages we have all been sending the Senators.   Maybe the Senate got a message from the House with passing Congressman Tancredo's amendment to the spending bills.

"We ain't gonna pass that piece of crap if you send it to us"

The House members get it ONLY because they are up for re-election every two years!!  The senate could care less since they are in for a 6 year term--so, lets NEVER let the House decide that they need longer terms!!

If you have to hyphenate your race--you are NOT an American!! This from a French-German-English-Irish-AMERICAN! See how silly this can become?

Of course, but House members are more in touch with the people back home than most Senators are.

Agree, msbobbie.  "He needs lots more press."  Some of us are working on that now.  He is moving forward, and we are grateful that the House is supportive of him.

Jason, read this link.

"THE TIME HAS NEVER BEEN BETTER
FOR A THIRD PARTY"

  http://www.etherzone.com/2006/adam051...

At the end it has this quote:

"I freely admit that I’m not a Republican any more (I haven’t been for about 10 years now), and that I’m not a Constitution Party member…yet.  However, the time is ripe for change, and I’m tired of being a disaffected conservative.  Thanks to the spinelessness of establishment politicians, the climate is right for a new major political party, and the Constitution Party is right on the issue of immigration to take advantage of the times.  This is not just a chance to shake up the two-party system, but a chance to take our country back and make it a home again for citizens rather than territory to be conquered by the illegal invaders."

Government turning it's back on illegal aliens invading our country  has our country broken in so many pieces, I do not know if anything can fix it.

I do know if our borders are not secure and our sovereignty is not protected, nothing else will matter.  If those are gone who the hell cares who sleeps with who or how many babies are aborted.  This is a nation of laws.  It is way past time for us to have a leader AND A CONGRESS who will enforce those laws and we need tax reform.

I went on a rant last week and submitted a letter to the opinion page of my local paper.  I did not realize it was so long until I saw it in print.  Nearly half a page in the paper!  About how a relative handful of us backed the Senate down on the immigration bill.  I estimate less than 1% of the voters in this country were involved and how if more people do not wake up and pay attention to what government is doing and let government know we are watching, they may not pay attention to less than 1% of the voters next time.
