Don't understand "SPIN", disinformation, misinformation, etc. ? Here are a few starting points. Don't leave it at this, do some research and really learn how you can be mislead and how those in position of power can put words in your mouth and deceive nearly anyone.

disinformation
For the company, see Disinfo; for the TV show see Disinformation: the series

Disinformation is the deliberate dissemination of false information. It may include the distribution of forged documents, manuscripts, and photographs, or propagation of malicious rumours and fabricated intelligence. In the context of espionage or military intelligence, it is the spreading of deliberately false information to mislead an enemy as to one's position or course of action. It also includes the distortion of true information in such a way as to render it useless.

Disinformation techniques may also be found in commerce and government, used by one group to try to undermine the position of a competitor. It in fact is the act of deception and blantant false statements to convince someone of an untruth

Disinformation differs from propaganda in that its true source is concealed, and it usually involves some clandestine action. Unlike propaganda and Big Lie techniques designed to engage emotional support, disinformation is designed to manipulate the audience at the rational level by either discrediting conflicting information or supporting false conclusions.

Another technique of concealing facts, or censorship is also used if the group can affect such control. When channels of information cannot be completely closed, they can be rendered useless by filling them with disinformation, effectively lowering their signal-to-noise ratio.

The Cold War made disinformation a recognized military and political tactic, though disinformation is generally more subtle and designed to remain unnoticed by the target audience.

Disinformation should not be confused with misinformation, which is not deliberate; i.e., the person or news source forwarding the information doesn't know it's not true and/or actually believes it; thus, disinformation can be relayed as misinformation if the one relaying the message is not aware that the originator of the message deliberately manufactured false information and offered it up for distribution. Whether the target of such an attack is to mislead the end user of the information or if the disinformation is meant to destroy the credibility of those gullible enough to relay it (usually news agencies) and not really caring what damage it does to the ultimate recipient must be judged on a per case basis.

The objectives and methods of disinformation are quite sophisticated. Here are a few of the main strategies:

  1. The Straw Man Argument/Sensationalism - by promoting speculative, sensational, and false evidence, opponents can setup easily debunkable or dismissable points that can be used to lend credence to their position. The opposition prefers dealing with topics that can be easily countered, or that simply make skeptics look like kooks. .

  2. Muddying the Waters - making it harder to discern the real evidence/researchers/websites from the fake ones. This approach both frustrates efforts at understanding the subject and makes the project less focused and more frustrating to be a part of.

  3. Smear Campaign - by including the target idea/individual/movement along with another topic or personality that is disliked or discredited the original subject can be smeared and dismissed. These smear campaigns can be extremely effective, as most people are very concerned with the image of a group or subject that they might get involved with.

  4.  4. Paranoia/Divide and Conquer - one of the most effective ways to destroy a group is to sow distrust among members. COINTELPRO is known to have supplied false information in order create suspicion between authentic progressive activists. Seemingly paradoxically, disinformation agents may actually promote discussion of disinformation/infiltration in order to increase paranoia. Such efforts may be targeted at creating suspicion around real and effective evidence/materials/activists.

Please. Take a ittle time to study and learn these methods and observe current happenings to see how it is utilitzed by media and politicians. You'll be able to to cut through to the truth - i.e. think for yourself. You can arm yourself with weapons other than firearms (though I would never deny you that right, either.)

And just as rain rolling down a hill sets a groove deeper and deeper making a path for the water to roll downhill, a lie and a slant, told enough , can start to convince the hearers and break down resistance by creating a path for that lie over and over . Did that make sense?

Sure does. Pretty much the essence of what we hear from our elected people and the media today.
