Fred Dalton Thompson is planning to enter the presidential race over the Fourth of July holiday, announcing that week that he has already raised several million dollars and is being backed by insiders from the past three Republican administrations, Thompson advisers told The Politico....

Thompson's formal announcement is planned for Nashville. Organizers say the red pickup truck that was a hallmark of Thompson's first Senate race will begin showing up in Iowa and New Hampshire as an emblem of what they consider his folksy, populist appeal.

Of the front runners now, he would be better. I wonder who his Vice pick would be?

I would expect him to look to a governor since two Senators wouldn't make a great ticket. Someone youngish.  Thompson has played his cards well to this point.

Excellent news and a reason to be hopeful for the possibility that a candidate who can win may very well take the Republican Party's nomination.  Still, we must insist he remain faithful to true conservative principles and the American Republic.

If Tancredo can't stay in the race I would consider Thompson instead.  I still have to hear what he has to say after he declares AND what he denounces as wrong NOW.

Exactly Kenneth.  Last thing we need is another republican who spends like a damned liberal with bottomless pockets!

My prayers have been answeredto this point!  Thank You, Lord GodInnocent, the republic may now have a chance to be saved if we can get Mr. T. to the White House and more Supremes who are willing to use the Constitution & Bill of Rights to maintain law rather then attempt to re-write it in an attempt to glorify themselves down the road.

On another point but still related; I, as a Hoosier born American apologize to my fellow compatriants for the behaviour of our supposed republican senator, richard lugar, whose voting record STRONGLY resembles that of his excellency, Sir teddyMoney mouth the drownder; crown ruler of the small country of massichewshits.

Apology accepted the41 if you'll accept mine.....Kennedy and Kerry and Delahunt are "my" reps and I'm ashamed!  Guess I didn't work hard enough for their opponents!  One day we will turn this state from the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts back to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Hopefully, that day will be soon.

While I look upon this news with optimism I am also realistic.

Until he comes out and says point blank what his plan is to deal with the illegal immigration crisis as well as what his views on tax reform are he does not have my vote.

Representative Tancredo has for years without fail been the strongest voice in the field on these two issues.  Therefore, I am with him win, lose or draw until he cannot or does not see the benefit in going any further.

At this time it is my intuition that he would move to the front of the pack if he gets in the race.  So, that makes it fun to speculate on who he would pick as a #2 guy.

I don't know that a youngish governor is the way to go this time like it would be typically.

People want to know what they are getting right now.  An experienced, steady and mature hand is what most folks think is needed.  There are some challenging issue on deck and a few dynamic ones to come.  Between global terrorism threat, Iran with nukes, illegal immigration crisis, crashing dollar (-30% in past 5 years), entitlement implosion vs. tax hikes/means testing, increasing call for tax reform, universal health care vs. status quo, culture war reaching rural routes and suburban cul de sacs.  SUPREME COURT JUSTICE APPOINTMENTS!

VP thoughts

- Rudy Guiliani    Would satisfy a lot of moderates and bring an unbeatable name recognition factor to the team.  While this would not satisfy many conservatives (me) it would still be a good enough ticket for the overwhelming majority to vote for in light of the other option.  I think most politcial stratigist would love this expand the tent type ticket.

- Duncan Hunter     He comes across Presidential, just enough younger, will never be accused of being weak on defense, would be strong in debates, message on FAIR not FREE trade resonates with Reagan Democrats.

- Newt  Just go ahead and give America a real Choice.  American Capitalist or Democratic Socialism.  Talk about a Debate Dream Team.  No one has a better grasp on the issues and can articulate them stronger.

 * John Kasick (sp) the former representative from Ohio would make an interesting dark horse that would serve some good in the Midwest, particularly OH where Republicans are in trouble.

- PLEASE NO ONE DARE MENTION JEB BUSH.

If Fred does become the Republican candidate, it would be nice to see Tom Tancredo, Newt Gingrich, Duncan Hunter, Dana Rohrabacher, and others of the same mold in some kind of cabinet/or other official positions.

With all due respect and I like what I hear out of Fred Thompson but the bold print in the above statement scares the hell out of me.  Is it just me or would I feel much better if he would distance himself from those who would inevitably want to take credit for his succesful bid for office and then demand that he pay back the favors of his political mechanics ?  That is how we get what the last three administrations have delivered.  Anyone left out there from Reagan's team ?  Would make me a lot more comfortable.   No more "Read my lips" please.    I can see them forcing Newt or  John McCain on the ticket with him and then if Fred does not play ball,  they would politely ask him to take a nice convertible ride in Dallas.   I hope Fred has Reagan's courage to be his own man.  Not one of the sell out hollow shells like our current Senators.

What I'm reading here is a general "let's hear him out," which I haven't heard here on FireSociety for the other so-called frontrunners. I am hoping to get an interview with him soon. I'll take suggestions on questions...

Politician-turned-actor Fred Thompson plans an unconventional campaign for president using blogs, video posts and other Internet innovations to reach voters repelled by politics-as-usual in both parties, he told USA Today.

"You can't drive the truck all the way across the country, but since '94 other opportunities have opened up in terms of ways to communicate."

A candidate could use the Internet "to cut through the clutter and go right to the people," he says.

#1 Why does he belong to the CFR?

#2Why is he backed by  insiders from the past three Republican administrations, sence they are trying to give our country away to Mexico for the UN.

#3 Where does he stand on the amnesty part and on the guest worker part?

#4 Does he know all the enforcement in the bill is already on the books but better. The bill actually kills alot of it as you put all the details together.

Absolutely hear him out.  He has the charisma to win big. My vote is something I do not take lightly. I just need confirmation without reservation that :

Will he feel compelled to guard our constitutional liberties as outlined by our founding fathers in the federalist papers ?  ( I.E. Second Amendment, fourth Amendment, first Amendment, etc..)

Is committed to a free America without foreign entaglements  ?

What should the role of the UN be in American foreign and more importantly domestic policy ?

What type of legislation that Bush signed off on the last six years would he have used the veto on ?

I want to like him and support him.

Ask him which cabinet departments and federal agencies, if any, he plans to eliminate.  Ask him if he thinks the department of homeland security is a success.  And ask him to explain his answer and his expectations for the department in the future.  Ask him where he stands with respect to the income tax and what he thinks should be done about federal spending and revenues.  Ask him if and how he will prosecute the war on drugs and the war on terror.  I know he can't really answer the last one except with platitudes and generalities, but it would be interesting to know how he relates the two.  Ask him who his favorite 5 political pundits are and why.  Ask him if he believes the balance between federal power and states rights are too much in favor of one or the other or just about right.  If it is too far in favor of federal power, what should and can the president do to move it back into kilter.  Ask him what role the federal government should play, if any, in public education.  That includes education at the primary, secondary, college level and pre-school.  Ask him what he will do about the fairness doctrine.  Ask him what the federal involvement should be, if any, in health care.
