Here's the first Senate amnesty vote. 69-23

Question: On the Cloture Motion (Motion to Invoke Cloture on the Motion to Proceed to Consider S.1348 )

This was a procedural vote to invoke cloture (i.e. end debate--end filibuster) on the motion to begin debating the new amnesty bill.

Grassfire supported a "NO" vote on the cloture motion.

The Senate will debate the bill for two weeks and then there will be another cloture vote before the final vote. This next cloture vote will be the key. Note that this vote of 69-23 does NOT mean we have lost this issue in the Senate, but we will need 41 votes on the final cloture vote. Here's he vote, by state:

What on earth needs to be done! We already have laws on the books. How can they say something is BROKEN when the process hasn't even been used! That is like saying someone buys an electronic device (that is still factory sealed) but a group of people (illegals) yell that they don't like those devices and then politicians say that the electronic device is broken (when the device is still factory sealed!).

"We do need to play by the rules. The people affilitated with NCLR, etc. will let emotions get the best of them and will put their feet into their own mouths by their actions. Just look at the demonstrations and the way the people act. What we need to do is outsmart all of them. We have the brainpower. We need to operate as a cohesive, unified, smart group." I have sent this email and called the offices of my Senators.

Dear Sir,

You voted Yea on cloture for S.1348. What are your intentions for this bill?

I ask you PLEASE no amnesty of any kind. What good are laws if you cannot enforce what is already on the books?

At this point I have to ask myself if they are even listening.

EVERYONE needs to call their senators offices for their respective states and make sure to voice their outrage over this issue. Passage of this ludicrous, nightmare legislation will have far reaching effect that we will all have to endure.

If I am not mistaken, phone calls carry more weight than email, and handwritten letters carry the most weight when contacting your representatives. Regardless, we all need to contact them and express our opinion on this extremely important issue. Our politicians absolutely have to hear from us on this issue. We can not allow it to be another situation of unopposed politics as usual.

I sent this letter out this morning to my reps.

I oppose the Senate immigration deal. I have said it before and will continue to say it. After the last mass amnesty congress promised the laws would be enforced and it didnt happen. America simply doesnt beleive it anymore. We cant even check to see if a person is legal or not so how can we expect to enforce the laws. If they arent doing their job now , they certainly wont do it later. All the " shall plans and will look intos" in this bill is double talk. The system is not broken, they just dont want to enforce the law.....I stress dont want to!!!. You wont lie to me anymore. You cut the border fence down that was already promised and our country is overrun and we dont know by who. A new bill wont help that. Just enforce the law. There was a time when a president did a mass deportation and not amnesty and it worked, but I know you wont look at that because you care more for Mexicans now that Americans. You stand for people who are not even citizens in hopes to replace the citizens. Personally by now Im convinced both parties stink. If they cant do the job they were elected to do, they need to give the job to someone who can. Although Im sure that will be outsourced to Mexico soon too because La Raza and ACLU and the Commerce work on our bills now. TREASON. Thats the only word I can think of. Why are citizens not brought up there to work on it....why La Raza. You cant hide it anymore.

Thanks for the update, Steve. I have forwarded this information to others in hopes that they will start contacting their Senators to tell them to oppose this bill.

Hey, wait a minute! I just realized McCain didn't vote! (Yes, I know... I'm a little slow on the uptake.)  Neither did Hillary or Obama. What's up with that? Could it possibly have something to do with the fact that they are all vying for president and they realize how unpopular a yea vote may be?

How can these people sleep at night?  They are voting against our

wishes?  How can we stop this?  It looks like the liberal left wing

of the Democrats and the weak Republicans are caving into

radicalism.

I have called 6 Senators and 8 Congressman and I have not gotten

a return call or a commitment either way.  Yet I noticed both

Reed and Whitehouse have gone against my wishes and 10's of

thousands of other Rhode Islanders who are against this

terrible bill.  This is just plain sick!

Well all I can say is if this bill passes as is we don't have a congress/President that are for America. I didn't think they were elected by illegals or put into office by Mexico but they might as well have been. Good buy Republican party and hello Socialism. Trouble is we have no place else to go to. I sure wish Tom Tancredo, my rep, could get up into the top tier of candidates, not that it would do any good now. Bush and congress simply sold us out to Mexico. I hope Christ comes soon and we who are Christians can just go home where we are wanted.

As long as people get the truth out that the media will not do, there is hope.Secure our borders deport all illegals, no seed babies, problem solved!

These elected intellects are going to vote whats in their best interest, not ours.  After the out come of their vote, we need to vote each of these idiots out of office to show our support.  Send that message to them and see if that doesn't sway their way of thinking?!  I know I will not forget how Boxer and Feintein voted after I called them and wrote them both.  I will gladly make myself heard next election to rid Californai of these two.  This hopfully will send a message to the next elected person to listen to the people and not the specail interest groups.

I'M A PERSON THAT "USED" TO BELIEVE IN MY COUNTRY AND IT'S LEADERS! NOW I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE GOOD OLD USA BEING LEAD BY PEOPLE WHO DON'T GO AROUND AND ASK THE ONES WHO VOTED FOR THEM IF THEY FEEL THE SAME WAY! I'LL BET IF THEY DID THEY'D VOTE ONLY ONE WAY AND THAT IS TO BE A AMERICAN YOU HAVE TO BECOME A AMERICAN THE AMERICAN WAY!!! I'M SO TIRED OF THESE PEOPLE THAT WE ELECT BECOMING TRADERS TO THE WILL OF THE VOTERS I COULD SCREEM! I HOPE THAT ENOUGHT PEOPLE WHO ARE REAL AMERICAN BY HEART WILL VOTE THEM ALL OUT ASAP!!! I ALSO THINK THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS COUNTRY AND IT'S PEOPLE BACK ON TRACK IS TO ELECT GORE FOR PRESIDENT! HE IS BETTER THAN ANY OF THE TWO-FACED PEOPLE WHO WILL RUN!!! HAVEN'T WE HAD ENOUGH OF BUSH TYPE PEOPLE IN GOVERNMENT??? A RICH PERSON CAN BE AS GOOD OF AN AMERICAN AS ANY ONE ELSE IF THEY DON'T LET THE GOD-O-MIGHTY DOLLAR CONTROL THEIR LIFE!!! AGAIN I WOULD HOPE FOR A REAL AMERICAN HERO TO SAVE US ALL OR WE ARE ON THE WAY TO DISTRUCTION OF AMERICA! I WILL SAY A PRAYER FOR ALL OF MY AMERICAN PEOPLE AND A SPECIAL PRAYER FOR MR. GORE TO SAVE US AND OUR COUNTRY!!! "INDIAN BOY" SAYS GOD BLESS AMERICA!!! PS: I ALMOST FORGOT TO SAY THANK YOU TO TWO REAL AMERICANS FROM TEXAS WHO VOTED "NAY" MR. CORNYN AND MRS. Today I was on my way out to bring my son to the library and Barbara Boxer came on in the senate tearing the new bill up. I almost fell over. She was complaining about how it jilted the American workers. Did anyone see anymore of that?
