A copy of the form letter from Senator Jon Tester (D- MT)
Dear Cheryl:
Thank you for taking the time to contact me about our Nation's immigration policy. Your suggestions and input are an important part of beginning to address some of the complex issues that we face.
Many people come to the United States today with the same dream that our ancestors had: to build a better future for their families. When my grandparents came to this country they put that dream to work by homesteading in north central Montana to start a dry-land farm in 1916. I'm proud to say that the Tester family continues to operate that same family farm today.
To pursue their dream, my grandparents knew that they would have to wait in line and follow the rules to become legal citizens of the United States. These days, many people seeking to immigrate to our country choose to sidestep the processes in place and have entered our country illegally. I'm opposed to amnesty for these people.
From a policy standpoint, securing our ports and borders must be our top priority. Tougher border and port security will help cut down on the incoming flow of illegal immigrants.
For example, some employers hire illegal immigrants, pay them under the table and refuse to grant them the workplace protections American workers enjoy. We must get serious about enforcing laws on these employers who hire illegal immigrants. We also need to put a stop to unfair trade agreements that reward other countries for treating their workers poorly. These trade agreements create the incentive for people to cross the border, and therefore must be addressed as a part of any comprehensive solution to this issue.
As the Senate begins debate on proposals regarding immigration, I will be sure to keep your views in mind. Please don't hesitate to contact me again in the future if I can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Jon Tester United States Senator, Montana
Authority without freedom is tyranny. Freedom without authority is anarchy. There must be a balance of freedom and authority.
Both Baucus and Tester voted nay on the preliminary cloture vote. I called both this morning to thank them for listening to the citizens of Montana regarding our opposition to bill S1348.
Authority without freedom is tyranny. Freedom without authority is anarchy. There must be a balance of freedom and authority.
I am originally from Montana and my sister and I contacted Baucus during last year's bill. "Cherry picker" Baucus is for immigration as he feels Montana needs them for picking cherry and doing other things jobs Montanans will not do!
I also called both Baucus and Tester to today and thanked them for voting nay on this ridculous preliminary cloture vote.
My family lineage is similar to other americans living in the US today. My father immigrated from Sicily in the 50's and went through all the legal procedures required to become a legal permanent resident. Just like Jon Testers grandparents, my father and his family stood in lines and followed the rules so he could become an American citizen. Upon receipt of his permanent residence, my father joined the Navy and served as he recognized himself to be an "American." He married an American citizen years after his entry into the US. I am one of 10 children and love my parents and country very much and thank god everyday for the freedoms alotted by this great country. I do not think that illegal immigration and the supporting of illegal immigrants is a freedom that our forefathers intended to put between the lines of the constitution..
I do not oppose immigration, but I oppose illegal entry into the US. I married a citizen of Great Britian and we have spent over $5,000 and 16+ months going through the proper procedures to register him as a legal resident. He works and pays taxes. He does not take benefits from the state of federal government and he is more than willing to fight for "this" country.
If we as born americans must go through this with our spouses and our parents had to do it, why not everyone who wants to come to this country?
Thanks Senator Tester and Baucus for listening to the resident voters of Montana. I can only hope that both or you can pound some sense into the heads of the other senators of this great nation and get them to vote "Nay!" on any legislation concerning amnesty for illegal immigrants.
Well, I finally heard from Baucus and have placed a copy here for your perusal. It is quite evident where he stands.
Dear Cheryl:
Thank you for getting in touch regarding our nation's immigration policies. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
Immigration is a complex issue that involves both our national and economic security. Many illegal immigrants come to America to work for businesses that cannot find U.S. workers in sectors of the U.S. economy like agriculture, tourism and landscaping. It is vitally important that we tackle the problem of illegal immigration. At the same time, we must beef up enforcement efforts on the border.
As you may know, on May 26, 2006,the Senate passed S. 2611, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006. I voted for this bill because it strengthens our borders by adding border patrol agents, and also requires immigrants to pay taxes and learn English. S. 2611 isn't perfect, and a lot of compromises were made. However, I support legislation that provides border security, while not giving amnesty to illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, Montana's vast border with Canada presents a unique challenge for border security. The threat from potential terrorists and drug runners is even more of a concern along Montana's high line precisely because all eyes are on the southern border.
During the 2006immigration debate, I expressed concern that the Nation's northern border (of which Montana and Canada share 500 miles) was being neglected, since most of the debate was focused on the southern border. I was pleased to see that the Senate included my measure to test unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV's) in the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act. This measure requires the Department of Homeland Security to conduct a one year pilot program for using UAV's to patrol the northern border.
In short, finding a way to help direct a manageable flow of legal migrant workers to the sectors of our economy that can't find willing American workers will benefit our small businesses in Montana and elsewhere. Bringing these migrants into a legal, enforceable system will allow border and law enforcement personnel to turn their attention to stopping individuals who wish to do us harm from crossing our borders.
As you may know, Congress is currently considering legislation which may make major changes to our nation's immigration policies. Please rest assured that I take this immigration debate very seriously. Nothing is more important than our nation's security. I will keep your thoughts in mind should this issuecome before me in the United States Senate.
Thanks again for getting in touch, and please don't hesitate to contact me in the future with additional questions or concerns.
With best personal regards, I am
Senator Max Baucus

Lower man on the totum pole Tom Tancredo for President, he will get something done about border security, and illegal immigrants, been talking about it for years, not just a johnny come lately.
we will fight for america look at what lady librty just said.....The Statue of Liberty is no longer > saying "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled > masses." She's got a > baseball bat and she's yelling, 'you want a piece > of me?' "
1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County ( L.A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card. 2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens. 3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens 4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers. 5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally. 6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages. 7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border. 8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal. 9. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking. 10. In L.A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish. (There are 10.2 million people in L.A. County ). (All of the above are from the Los Angeles Times) Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare. Over 70% of the United States ' annual population growth (and over 90% of California , Florida , and New York ) results from immigration. 29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens. Our leaders are fools for letting this continue.WHY CAN'T WE SEND THEM HOME ? UNITED WE STAND - GOD BLESS AMERICA

The new French president has it right about how to handle illegals. Read this article and send it on to your elected reps, maybe they can learn something!
MONTANA: Go to this site and sign the petition. Support your State Legislators. They have joined with 25 States to fight this thing. Pass the word up there. (I was born in Billings).
Please pass this link on to ALL of the contacts in your address book, remind the Senate that they are in Washington DC to represent "We the People". I think they have forgotten just exactly why they are there. I sent e-mails to both Senators Baucus and Tester with the sentiment that "I am sending this message due to the fact that according to the US Constitution; you, as a US Senator, are MY voice in Washington. I just wanted to share my thoughts with you so that on my behalf you know how to vote on this bill."
In return I recieved the same form letter e-mails that Irish Eyes did, with the change of name of course. Can you say PAU!!!!
American Patriot: Did you write your STATE Legislation. It is their JOB to instruct the U.S. Senators of your state on what the people want. However, you're one of the lucky ones if you live in Montana, because your State did join the 25-State Legislative Coalition to fight against this bill.
Today we are in Missoula, Montana, and it's wonderful to be back in the Northwest, particularly after 9 years in southern Colorado. Moving there was a culture shock - like not being waited on in a restaurant because I'm a "blondie", "whitie" or "white woman". Unable to apply for jobs because we don't speak Spanish (even though both my husband and myself are well-qualified individuals); inadequate medical care from Hispanic medical staff; not being waited on in JC Penney's - 4 Hispanic clerks standing there and not waiting on me, (no other customers standing there) - they told me they "didn't see me standing there"! Huh! And, believe me, I'm not the only one this has happened to in Southern Colorado. (Our Senator "Slick" Salazer represents illegal immigrants and Hispanic constituents; the rest of us legal, taxpaying American citizens are ignored!) Our Senator Allard is a strong representative of the America majority - NO Z-plan for ILLEGALS because they are just that - ILLEGAL!
Believe me, there is a concentrated effort on the part of Hispanics to takeover Southwest America. Go to www.lframerica.com (Let Freedom Ring America) for info on that and info regardng the June 14 -16 protest in Washington DC and throughout America.
So, why am I telling you all of this? Stop the TAKEOVER OF AMERICA before it's too late!! Don't give up; write a letter to your editor; flood pro-amnesty gov't reps with e-mails; phone calls, etc.
By the way, thousands and thousands of petitions expressing no amnesty to illegals were sent to 94 out of 100 senators, so where's the press? Why aren't we getting "unbiased and fair" news coverage?
Liberty and justice for all - including us legal, taxpaying, American citizens.
libertypoint - Hi! My family is from Montana. I was born in Billings, but my sister, aunts, uncles and cousins live all over the State. My sister is in Missoula and we try to go up, but we ended down here in Texas and talk about a culture shock from Kalispell! We're moving back to Vancouver, WA in a couple months, where I raised my kids, though. We'll be able to come up to Missoula more often then.
I had no idea So. Colorado was like that! When did that happen? Sad! Even here where the mexican population is so high, we never get that kind of treatment. They've been down here for so long, everyone just kind of gets along and/or ignores each other. In fact, since this whole debate thing started, many of them seem like they almost try to be invisible....hmmm - wonder why.
I fax, call, email everyday. Have faxed the Congressman that's the committee chairman for Home Land Security (which is what this bill falls under), our congressman and senators including our State Legislators. Both Congressman here are FIRMLY dug in to vote NO, so thats a good think.
We all need to work on the House reps. If this gets through the Senate, it can be stopped there, and there are some pretty strong opponents.

We are going to Kalispell tomorrow, and back here, on to Washington and Oregon - deciding where we want to retire. Anyway....thanks for your response! Tonite at dinner we had a wonderful time, the staff was friendly, etc. What a breath of fresh air (in many ways) to be here. What a difference already. My husband looked at me and said how much better he feels being here and that we are DEFINITELY leaving Pueblo. (We have not forgotten the time we were NOT waited on at a restaurant in Pueblo because we are white and the waitress was Hispanic, as we figured out to be true. I was so shocked. I am an understanding person with compassion and rarely complain. But this time - enough is enough! We talked with the manager, and he reimbursed us for our meal. I guess they had a problem with her with this issue before.)
Yes -- these incidents are true, as I said, in my previous e-mail. I'm not the only one this has happened to, and these incidents have happened throughout the 9 years we have been here. For example, you are familiar with the federal maximum security prison in Florence, CO where the uni-bomber is, along with terrorists? etc.,etc.? Well, the Assistant Warden (2nd in command at that prison), lived in our neighborhood. His wife would not live in this area because of the "mentality" so, she went back to their former state to teach and then he transferred out of his job and re-united with his wife. He also experienced discrimination because he was non-Hispanic. My husband and I know of other professionals, laborers, etc. who have left this area for that reason. I don't go into Pueblo unless I have to; a lot of non-Hispanics are moving out of Pueblo and moving into Pueblo West, a community 7 miles up the road, which is predominantly white. I'm sorry to see this happen; but it's become a matter of living in a socially less tense environment.
I just sent another e-mail to Senator Salazar. He is one of the Senators who is on the committee that is writing up this Z-Visa Plan. Numbers of calls and e-mails do count, even though he really doesn't care and is doing what he wants -- he's suppose to represent LEGAL, TAXPAYING AMERICAN CITIZENS -- NOT === ILLEGALS ! What a sales job in this community! And, our local newspaper carries Salazar's point of view - what a slick, biased politician and media! (I'm degreed in Journalism, and I am really fired up about those slick articles! What a white wash for Z-Visa PLan!)
Speakengl - thank you! Don't give up the fight! We need to Wake up Americans who have been lulled into sleep with the politicians' rhetoric and smooth words. We are so busy in this rush society and people are told to "trust the government" - without questioning it! If we don't question, we aren't thinking. And, in this case, we Americans are losing and will lose big if this all goes through!!
