Let's use this thread to help us track how Senators say they are going to vote on the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill. Find stories online or better yet -- call and document how these senators from this state are going to vote. If you call, include date/time of your call.

Switchboard: 202-224-3121.

Be sure to ask:

1--Does the senator support the Bush-Kennedy comprehensive amnesty bill?

2-- Will the Senator vote to "invoke cloture" (i.e. end debate) on the amnesty bill?

Just called both Warner and Webb's offices. Their staff's are instructed to say that they have not yet taken a position on the bill. Webb's office says that he is 1.for closing the border 2. for penalizing employers who hire illegals 3. not for amnesty 4. in favor of a limited guest worker program.

Warner's office did say that he is in favor of voting on this bill soon.

Please continue to call their offices. Duncan Hunter was just interviewed on the radio and says that all the Senators and House Reps have their attenae up and are asking their office receptionists how many are calling and if they are opposed or for the bill.

Thanks for the "talking points" in the e-mail. It helps to have questions to ask before giving your opinion.

We should suspect (expect) that both will vote FOR the bill. They both supported last night's first cloture vote which was in favor of beginning the debate.

So calls should challenge them specifically on the first cloture vote:

"Why did Sen Warner/Webb vote in favor of the motion to begin debate? "

That lets them know you are tracking real closely on the issue.

As them to notify you by email when the Senator makes up his mind.

Called Webb's office 5/22 5:30p. Says he supported the cloture vote to encourage debate on the bill.

Staffer said he "isn't opposed to debate on the bill" but is "opposed to widespread amnesty."

I asked specifically if the Senator views the bill's immediate granting of "provisionary legal status"' to be amnesty, and the staffer said yes.

Virginians, please make some calls!

To all of your voters in Virginia.  I called Voter Registration in Virginia today and asked what I needed to bring to register to vote.  The reply:  Nothing.  Just go and fill in a form with a name and address and sign and you can  vote.  When questioned how they would know if I was elligible, the woman said that I would be signing under penalty of perjury and if they caught me I might be prosecuted.  I called Sen Warner and Webb, and they had no idea of the law in Virginia.  There are other states that allow this, too.  We need to have some kind of federal mandate requiring ID.

Could someone explain to me, just why they feel this states senators and legislators would not vote for this bill. I mean after all they are Republican and if Mr. Bush ate chocolate covered poop they would also just because of the party affiliation.  If we in Virginia are to gain some control of how we want them to vote we first need to dismiss them from office.  I also want Virginian's to know that regardless of party, its time to stop this type of politics. Quit voting on party lines vote for the people which is how our system is and was set up.  No place does it say vote per party or leave.  So Virginians stand up and vote per the item and stop allowing businesses to bring illegals into this state and country.  Also Virginians stand up and show them we are not going to allow them to keep doing this to our state and country.  What part of Illegal does anyone not understand.  If we broke those laws and asked to be excused, do you think we would get it in our state. If this passes I for one will ask for it if and when I should decide to break laws.

Susie, that's a great tip. I will look into it. I may need you to remind me -- we're a bit overtasked! But that's a very important issue. Voter fraud by illegals would turn this issue against the amnesty activists. Send me a Private Message if you don't hear anything from me in a few weeks.

The new French president has it right about how to handle illegals.   Read this article and send it on to your elected reps, maybe they can learn something!

Here is the response for Sen. Webb to all my anti-illegal immigration e-mails (pay particular attention to the "we need to absorb" statement - Amnesty at its finest!)

"Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns over current immigration issues.

An estimated 11 million unauthorized persons reside in the United States; this population is estimated to increase by 500,000 annually. Each year, about 1 million people are apprehended trying to enter the United States illegally. Although most of these people enter the United States for economic opportunities, family reunification, or to avoid civil strife, some may have ill intentions.

I believe the solution to our illegal immigration situation should be a three-pronged effort. The first task is to gain control of our borders, particularly our southern border. Second, we must find a way to absorb into our society those immigrants who have lived and worked in the United States for many years and have put down roots here. For these people, there should be an eventual path to citizenship. Third, we must enforce immigration laws that are already in place, such as punishing corporations who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. Additionally, we must engage the Mexican government and hold it accountable for its responsibilities regarding illegal immigration.

My staff and I appreciate your correspondence on this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact us in the future.

Sincerely,

Jim Webb

United States Senator"

In my opinion, that path to citizenship should lead back through the country they came from,  no matter where it is or how long they have been here, and they should get in line behind those who are patiently waiting to enter the right way.  Anything else is rewarding bad behavior, and I do not approve.

In Oklahoma, if you register to vote at the county election board, you have to show identification.  If you register to vote by mail, you will receive your voter registration card in the mail, but the first time you go to vote, there will be a symbol beside your name in the book and you will have to show identification to the poll workers.  If you do not have identification, you will only be allowed to cast a 'provisional ballot'.
