Let's use this thread to help us track how Senators say they are going to vote on the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill. Find stories online or better yet -- call and document how these senators from this state are going to vote. If you call, include date/time of your call.

Switchboard: 202-224-3121.

Be sure to ask:

1--Does the senator support the Bush-Kennedy comprehensive amnesty bill?

2-- Will the Senator vote to "invoke cloture" (i.e. end debate) on the amnesty bill?

Called at 9:18 Senator Orin Hatch's office had to leave message. Left name address and message.

Called 9:19 Senator Robert Bennett’s office I was informed the Senator was on the floor and had not been able to read the bill as of yet. I left a message with an aide about my concerns. They said they would pass them to the Senator.

Called at 10:09 Senator Orin Hatch office and left another message.

Called at 10:13 Senator Robert Bennett’s and again left message. I will keep trying until I get an answer.

Mon May 21, at 4:25pm, I called and left messages with both senators.  I told them that I live in Utah, that I am against this bill, and left my phone number for them to call me back.

I have not heard back from either of the senator's offices.   Their "yea" votes today (to consider this bill) outrage me.   Surely they know the will of the majority of Utahns, and yet they do not represent the majority...

I went to Bennett's website.  Here's his supposed stance on Immigration.  So, if he feels this way, why would he vote to move forward on discussion of this insane bill?   http://www.senate.gov/~bennett/issues...

What more can we do?  Here is the letter I have written and sent to both Hatch and Bennett:

Dear Sir,
I am disturbed to learn that you voted Yea to today's Cloture Motion on bill S.1348. (Bush-Kennedy immigration).

Surely you already know the will of the VAST MAJORITY of Utahns.  Amnesty is not the answer.  Neither is back-credit for Social Security wages, healthcare/education benefits, or unlimited temporary worker permits... all of which are proposed by this bill.

Should you vote for this bill, you have betrayed the residents of this great State -- the very people who put you in the office you hold now.  I remind you of your solomn responsibility to represent your constituents, despite your personal interests.  Listen to the people.  Vote as they would have you vote.

Regards

Last Friday on my day off, I went in person to the federal building in Salt Lake City,  Utah.  I had a very bad experience at Senator Bennett's office.  In a conference room that was open, as I was discussing my grievences regarding Senator Bennett's voting record with regards to illegal immigration, with an aid, Neil Parkinson, a constituent liaison aid; the door was open, and not being a morman woman, I let my emotions flow with a loud mouth.  I said something like "the people in this county will be up in arms if this amnesty bill is allowed to pass!"  In rushed a senior aid, attempting to debase me as though I had just threatened the senator.  As a former flight attendant, I do understand even talking or joking about highjacking on an aircraft is verboten, but this was ridiculous.  I am not easily intimidated, and told the senior aid "if you think I am a threat call the guards and have them arrest me, they should be out arresting illegals and deporting them home!"  He ofcourse, did not arrest me, and left the room.

Senator Hatch's aid was far more accomodating.  Both offices were receiving a prodigious number of calls from outraged citizens not wanting amnesty! We need to work on our state legislators nationwide to stop this new world order!!!      Deborah Connopr
State Legislators to Push for True Immigration Reform
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review : May 21 , 2007 -- by Brad Bumsted

"The group will push for legislation in states and work to oppose federal bills, such as one pending in Congress to provide amnesty to illegal aliens already in the United States..."

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Illegal aliens who have babies in the United States should take their kids back across the border, Republican state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe said Monday.

"If you have a child here illegally, you should pick that little baby up, take that child back home with you and come back the right way," said Metcalfe, of Cranberry.

His remarks came at a news conference he held to announce a new national group of state lawmakers seeking solutions to end illegal immigration. Metcalfe responded to the issue of potentially splitting up families if illegal immigrants are returned to their countries of origin, as he advocates.

"State Legislators for Legal Immigration" will be nationwide coalition aimed at ending the "illegal alien invasion," Metcalfe said.

The group will push for legislation in states and work to oppose federal bills, such as one pending in Congress to provide amnesty to illegal aliens already in the United States.

Metcalfe said legislators in 25 states have joined as "pioneer members." He hopes to involve lawmakers in all 50 states.

"Since Washington, D.C., remains AWOL on fulfilling its Constitutional responsibilities to secure our nation's borders against foreign invaders, it is not only incumbent, but the obligation of state lawmakers to step up and do the job that our federal government refuses to do," said Metcalfe.

Joining him at the news conference were a few other Pennsylvania legislators and Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli.

"It's not an illegal immigration issue, it's a crime and national security issue," said Morganelli, who claims about 5,000 illegal aliens in Northampton County have been responsible for a disproportionate share of the crime.

Five of 10 rapes in Northampton County last year were committed by illegal immigrants, Morganelli said.

Pennsylvania taxpayers are picking up the tab for illegal aliens housed in county and state prisons, he said.

I have tried to get hold of both senators, with neither one answering or returning my calls.  I have e-mails, visited their web-pages and left messages there as well.
I would like for them to come to my neighborhood and see just who it is they will be granting free reign of this country too. Call me a racist if you'd like,  but I have had enough of teenagers popping out babies, all for the support they can get from this state!
I would like then to know that I live on $543 a month social security while illegal women who have their anchor babies here, get far more than I do!  At age 54, don't you think senators, something is wrong with the system??
As soon as I find out how they vote, if they support this bill, I will be something I swore I would never be...a damn Democrat.

I use this link to create e-mails to my public servants:

http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm

Senator Hatch often responds with a form letter weeks later, but at least that shows that they are getting the message by e-mail.

Senator Bennett seldom responds except for mail featuring a smiling family soliciting my vote.

I sent this:

Issue: Immigration

Subject: Please vote against the bill to make lawbreakers legal.

Thank you for using Gun Owners of America Mail System

Message sent to the following recipients:

Senator Bennett

Senator Hatch

Message text follows:

Ronald, I too use that link to email senators. I called Hatch's office and let the aide know how I felt about the vote for cloture. The aide told me it would be a bad idea not to have this out for open debate. I asked him how Hatch intended to vote on amnesty, he said he had no opinion as this bill can change quickly. That was not what I asked you, I said. I want to know what his intentions on amnesty are? Again I received a round about non answer. I told the aide I would be watching this very closely. His reply was “You do that.”

We need to do a thorough house cleaning come election time, and I don't mean just at the ballot box.  I am talking about exposing these traitors voting records well in advance of the elections, we need to write letters to the editors of our local News Papers, and call in to Radio talk shows, and even make up posters and flyers of our own exposing these people well in advance.  If we work to make it happen they will all get the message loud and clear, but if we just sit back and complain and do no more than procrastinate, nothing will ever change but our lifestyle of enslavement to an even greater degree of poverity.

I have contacted both Senators and all 3 Congressmen here in Utah.  I let them know that I do not support free amnesty.  However, I do not hear very many ideas or solutions being offered.  All we seem to hear about is what people do not like.   We need ideas and solutions.  Criticism is great, but what well thought out plan would you offer in place of what you don't like?

I let our representatives know that I appreciate their thoughtful consideration of solutions for the problems that we currently find ourselves in with immigration and border security.  It is easy to be critical of ideas when there is no easy solution to a problem that has grown out of hand.  Nobody has wanted to deal with this issue for years.  Because of that it has grown into a problem that will never be solved in a pleasing way for anyone.  Instead of voicing just our criticism we should also be offering well thought out alternatives.  Many representatives have openly asked for suggestions for years - Utah's included.

I have decided that while I know that I am not going to be totally satisfied with whatever solution develops - that I will try to support the best compromises for that best solution possible that is put on the table.  If anyone has a better idea to hash out let them put it forward.  The time for all-or-none propositions is long past.

Dkwittrman -

Which ones?  We have laws on top of laws and enforcement is picking and choosing what they will enforce and when.  The laws contradict each other in many instances and the legal system to become a citizen is complex, misunderstood, and is unfair to both us and those who would like to legally be part of us.

My point is that everytime we try to fix the current system we end up adding to it and making it worse.  The more I have heard about it the more ridiculous the current laws seem to be.  We need to make the current system better.  For instance:

We need border security 1st and foremost.  We can't implement any other laws without establishing who can come in and stopping those we don't want in.

Current laws make it too easy to come and be supported here with Medicare, Social Security, Unemployment Benefits, etc. being too easy to obtain by illegal citizen's.  This has to change.

A fair system for entering our country needs to be established.  I don't pretend to know all the issue's in pulling this one together...  But it seems to me that the current one is confusing to everyone, is too bureacratic, and takes too long in most cases.

Enforcing current laws would also prove more than our resources are able to handle since we have grown this problem too large to deal with all at once.  What no critic seems to want to address is how would you propose to enforce current laws?  We've lived with the problem too long.  If we enforced current laws and tracked down all the illegal aliens currently here - a huge and impossible undertaking in itself - are you prepared for the humanitarian issue's it would create of all the broken families we would have?  After all, our current laws say that their children are legal citizens since we have allowed them to live her so long already...  How ready are we to tear mothers and fathers from their children.  I'm not ready to adopt those children into my own house, are you?

Would we be able to stomach the intense searches for the majority of illegals that would probably not voluntarily surrender?  We have endured one invasion.  Are we ready to endure the invasion of our privacy in our communities, our businesses, our schools, our neighborhoods as we empower our government to seek and track down the illegals.  How would we feel while 12 to 20 million people were rounded up and shipped out?  We like to see ourselves as better than the Nazi's who did the same thing and then more to those they didn't like in their society.  But we take a step closer to them if we can't find a more compassionate solution to a problem we have allowed to grow so large.

It is a huge problem.  I don't like it at all.  I hate what I see it doing to my neighborhood when we can't even communicate with the people around us.  I hate seeing how the school down the street from me struggles to figure out how to teach all the different kids in different languages.  I hate seeing another countries flag fly at a demonstration in my country.  It is unfair that people feel like it is OK to take advantage of me and my country when they come and feel it is OK to not pay the taxes that I do.  Or even worse when through more deceit they take our governments money - taxpayer money, to live.

But I don't think the current laws being enforced can solve the problem.  I am looking for the whole system to be revamped somehow.  Our times have changed.  Our world has changed.  There are terrorists to worry about.  Old laws don't address them well enough.  We need something we can live and work with.  Something that will help to give us a measure of peace and security with our borders.  Something that will deal with the huge issue of compassionately dealing with illegal aliens here now and those that will come in the future.

It has to be more than a simplistic "Hey, just enforce what we currently have."  I hear that too often.  I don't think that response has considered the whole issue or wrestled with it in their hearts very long.

If that is the solution, how do we propose to implement it now when we haven't for so long?  And how well will it protect us with our changed world?

If you have these answers Dkwittrman then you have my respect and my vote.

The solution is a no brainor, you fine employers $10.000 for every Illegal Alien they have on their payrole.  And if you find that employee is working on a stolen identification, you arrest the employer as an accessory right along with the employee.  Next you give all local law enforcement agencys the authority to enforce these laws.  Then you will not have to spend the tax payers money to deport them, they will go back on their own when they find that there is no work for them here.  This is the Imigration bill we need.

This is especially for Matt Harding...Bring back our troops from Iraque and have them round up the illegals and humanely deport them; forcing their own governments to support them....I am a single mother and I do not want one more tax dollar going to support illegals, except to deport them...I feel very  very very strongly about this....Matt, that you  would compare this to the holocost is unbelievable!!!  My greatgrandfathers fought with George Washington, I am related to the George Mason family, he wrote the Bill of Rights, ( refusing to sign the Declaration of Independance or the Constitution because they refused to abolish slavery, and there was no Bill of Rights)..... the illegals want to ride on the tailcoats of my relatives who fought and died for their freedom....not wanting to fight in their own country for their freedom.  My father served in world war II in the Navy...He was in Okinawa right after the marines took the island; when we nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  He served 30 years in the United States Airforce as a pilot....He flew medivac flights out of Korea, risking his life to get our wounded from Korea to hospitals in Europe and the United States; He spent two tours of duty in Viet Nam as a Ranch Hand spraying Agent Orange to help our ground forces.  He was shot while on one spraying mission.  He was there in 1967 during the Tet offinsive!!!  I have a right to want the illegals deported, not only for the security of our nation, but also as a mother and grandmother for the future of my children and grandchildren!!!  My Dad died from cancer of the lungs from the Agent Orange he sprayed!!!  I want the illegals deported.  No other country allows people to party crash their nation and then hand out party favors to boot.  I at least have a degree.  Many of our poor are really suffering because of these party crashers.  I say the party is over.  It's time to send them home with their anchor babies in tow!!!   I do not mind my taxes going to help United States Citizens who need help!!!  Remember the Alamo!!! That is what I say!!!  We need to take care of our own citizens, which we are not doing a very good job of now.  Matt Harding, if these people are allowed to get away with this now, more and more and more illegal immigrants will come into this country and our country is over!!!  Matt Harding you must be for the New World Order.   Our President has already set out the demise of this country by forming the North American Union.  This would be a United Canada, United States, and Mexico...Bye Bye Miss American Pie.....That's Right.... We are marching right into the The New World Order!!  In the Bible it is refered to as the One World Government!!!  I hoped I would never live to see it.  We are all marching as lambs to the slaughter following the Illuminati all the way to the Anti Christ.                                                                Deborah Connor

Matt, interesting comments you have made. Yes I do believe we can clean this up using existing laws. I would add however one more and that is no anchor babies. You have to ask why they come here and that should give you a clue.

1. Secure all the boarders.

2. Start by deporting all illegal criminals and known gang members along with their families.

3. Stop all government payments to them.

4. Cut off all employment opportunities by enforcing existing laws against employers.

There are lots more options I can think of.

Yes it is a mess; you tackle it like any other mess one item at a time.
