Let's use this thread to help us track how Senators say they are going to vote on the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill. Find stories online or better yet -- call and document how these senators from this state are going to vote. If you call, include date/time of your call.

Switchboard: 202-224-3121.

Be sure to ask:

1--Does the senator support the Bush-Kennedy comprehensive amnesty bill?

2-- Will the Senator vote to "invoke cloture" (i.e. end debate) on the amnesty bill?

Sen. Corker .......does not support the bill in its current form(s).

Sen. Alexander .......welcomes more debate, but based on his remarks today in local radio shows, I get the definite impression he wants to support the Bush administration's position with regard to big business/guest-worker........so in my view he'll vote for the immigration amnesty bill when final.

Per an email today (May 24th)  from Jim Gault, I am pleased to note that  Governor Alexander is against amnesty in any form.

I have had conversations with both Senator Corker and Senator Alexander's offices.  Both flatly state the senators are against amnesty in any form.

Alexander just finished a live radio broadcast here in Nashville.  His primary objective is to quote "get control of the border".  Unfortunately, he waffled about building the fence.  He started talking about the virtual fence concept and now claims that the fence vote of last year did not contain enough money to actually build the fence.  When asked about sending illegals home to wait in line he waffled again..... with maybe something short of that.  Bottom line.......getting "control of the border" is whatever he says it is I suppose.

All I can say is this, the issue needs prayer, with the ones in mind who need wisdom to do what is right. The Senators need Prayer for the right decisions to make so that God will recieve the Glory in the subject matter. I don't know a lot on this subject matter, other than the possible 'conditions' that the immigrants have come from may well be too impoverished to want to go back to, seeing how 'rich' America is in the U.S. in the 'dreams' that can be achieved for the ones who work hard and continue to succeed in the hard work . Though I can understand the relunctance to return, I can also see the need for the U.S.A. to encourage Legal immigration proceedures and so enforce them and reward those who do it RIGHT ! So the ones who seek to have American Citizenship, can do it the right way, and not the 'illegal' way. I don't know the reasons for the delays to do it right, or the costs involved as well. But certainly the ones doing it the wrong way, need to be educated in doing what is the right way. And helped to do it the right way. Sincerely,  Mrs. J.C.

No amnesty!  Take care of the homefront first and then take any "legal" immigrants and do what is right with them - the ones that are truly interested in being legal citizens of the United States who do not burn flags, put theirs above ours or demonstrate in the streets.  Closely observe them to see if they are for real or not and if not do not let them have citizenship.

There are people (plenty of them) who are American born and citizens by natural birth who would be happy to work for less money (thereby satisfying all the employers who want cheap labor).  For them the minimum wage (I figure) keeps them from getting jobs on farms, etc. which I figure illegal immigrants are getting.  Why is it that (if I am right) they can get these type jobs and why can they have humpteen famililies in one dwelling but an American citizen cannot adopt a child (if I am right and think I am) unless they can provide a separate bedroom for them.

Nobody2
p.s.  We need more country hicks in D.C. without big degrees - people with horse sense, etc. (who know right from wrong - such as know that abortion & homosexuality is wrong) and less of those with big degrees who haven't the brains to know what is right if they met it head-on in the street.

1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County ( L.A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.
2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

9. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.

10. In L.A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish.
(There are 10.2 million people in L.A. County ).

(All of the above are from the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare.
Over 70% of the United States ' annual population growth (and over 90% of California , Florida , and New York ) results from immigration.

29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.
Our leaders are fools for letting this continue.

The new French president has it right about how to handle illegals.   Read this article and send it on to your elected reps, maybe they can learn something!

Illegal Ingrates wanna show us they r willing to assimilate, train them NOW & promptly ship to Iraq. Let 'em fight for the country which they've raped for so long while simultaneously 'working off' some of the national debt they've enormously helped create.

Thank U for posting the LA Time's research.. seems they may be good for something after all....

Extremely disappointing that the very man I voted for (2X) & trusted 100% to do the right thing in ALL areas concerning we the people, has short-changed us on this Illegal Ingrates issue. For these politicians to put thier pathetically greedy lobbiests' interests over that of we the people is beyond selfish- it is a crime. They are basically & blatantly coddling criminals & compounded w/the fact they are not even American citizens! Bush- I am pissed @the fact YOU are doing this. I am pissed YOU come on TV in State of the Union & prop up what YOU know to be BS, when you said, "Mexico is our 'friend'. Mexicans are 'doing jobs Americans *won't* do".

But the jagged edged thorn in my side sawing the most bleeding damage is knowing those who are 'supposed' represent us will cow-tow to those greedy businesses, companies & corporations- of whom's main motivation is CHEAP LABOR- & putting the handful of opportunists they represent over the millions of we the people who's numbers dwarf the greedy folks Bush is catering to. "Tell me where a man finds his motivation & I'll tell you about that man".

What is Bush's main motivation? Don't know but I DO KNOW THIS:Whatever the hell it is- it is not to we the people's best interests & it is definitley not reflective of the same stubborn man who shows resolve on the war in Iraq. And btw, while I've supported Bush efforts on Battle in Iraq of the War on Global Terror, I find myself thinking bring them home, expend USA's talents/energies/finances on ferreting out & keeping out the terrorist's already here by sealing our damn borders & finding the 10,000 or so terrorists already here just waiting for a wimpy-people-pleasin John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, etc to take office so they can begin blowing up our shopping malls, packed stadiums, finance centers, etc- all what they would've already done were it not for what kick-ass cowboy nature Bush reflects on this issue. Where is Bush's fight for the Border issue which is a "Security Issue' far more than merely an 'Illegal Ingrates' issue?

What we need to do is prosecute the illegals as willingly as we will prosecute a deadbeat parent for non support, a bank robber for holding up a bank, or a killer for homicide!

If we started prosecuting, convicting and sentencing -- THEN deporting after the sentence was completed, perhaps we would have more compliance with the LAW!  Nowadays, however, the illegals act like it is a "suggestion."  NOT a "law!"

I am not a politician and don't want to become one. I'd just like to be informed. The way I see a bill being presented is as following.

Someone gets a good idea to help the country and proposes a bill to that effect. However along the way someone else sees that this is a good bill but adds something to the bill. (I all it baggage or rocks) Then someone else does the same thing. Pretty soon the original bill is  forgotten and a bag of "rocks" takes its place.

There are so many "rocks" now that the original bill can't possibly be enacted because of these "rocks".

Notice how many "rocks" are now on the table regarding funding for our soldiers. The blame of course will be our president instead of the "rock" adders.

Am I naive enough to believe that a line item" veto could cure this practice?

A line item veto would certainly cure the problem, but no one wants it because it would cut out much of their opportunities to introduce pork.

Senator Coburn's Transparency Act will go a long way toward reducing that.
