Let's use this thread to help us track how Senators say they are going to vote on the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill. Find stories online or better yet -- call and document how these senators from this state are going to vote. If you call, include date/time of your call.

Switchboard: 202-224-3121.

Be sure to ask:

1--Does the senator support the Bush-Kennedy comprehensive amnesty bill?

2-- Will the Senator vote to "invoke cloture" (i.e. end debate) on the amnesty bill?

i spoke with sen inhofe's office and according to his statement, he will not support any bill that provides for amnesty in any form.  i expressed my opinion  that i was against this also.

i then spoke to sen coburn's office, they received this bill at 2 am yesterday morning (sunday) and that he would not be able to form or express any opinion until they had read the bill.

this sure seems to prove  that the bill is being forced upon all without giving them a chance to read and respond.  imagine that, trickery by sponsors of a bill.  i say that with my  tongue in my cheek!

i made these calls on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 11:00 am and sent emails to them as well as sen reid to state my views on this matter.

I am hearing impaired, and telephones are difficult for me.  I depend on email for my communications, and have been discussing immigration with Senator Inhofe and Senator Coburn since before the House sent the immigration reform bill to the Senate in December '05.

Senator Inhofe's most recent statement is:

While I do not yet know all of the specifics of this cumbersom 1000 page bill, initial reports indicate that this legislation will include some form of amnesty, and I have long said, I will not support any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to shortcut the current citizenship process

Senator Coburn has not responded, but his staff reports "The Senator will oppose any legislation that offers citizenship to illegal aliens."

Senator Coburn voted 'NO' on HB2611 a year ago and I have no reason to suspect his position has changed.  Plus, doing so would short-circut the Oklahoma legislation (HB1804) passed by 85% of the State Senate and 81% of the State House this year and reluctantly signed by a politically ambitious and term limited governor.

These two Senators deserve your praise and a big Thank You from all Oklahomans on this issue.

I am proud of our State leaders who drafted HB1804 and those who supported and passed it. It should serve as a model to our Federal government leaders that steps can be implimented to resolve the illegal imigration issue without spending millions of our tax dollars.

This bill was a result of raising crime rates due to narcartic trafficing, increased gang activity and the draining of our state resources in education and medical support for non-citizens. Just multiply all these on a national level and it boggles the mind.

It sadden me that our Governor, Brad Henry, was reluctant to sign it but due to overwhelming citizen support, had no choice but to sign. (He had also made promises to deal with the illegal immigration issue in his campain platform.)

this link explains this 4 part oklahoma bill if you care to read it.

 http://jurist.law.pitt.edu/paperchase/2007/05/oklahoma-governor-signs-immigration.php

I will continue to write/call all senators and reps involved the 'Bush-Kennedy comprehensive amnesty bill".

I thought Jeff Sessions was very articulate and concise in his analysis yesterday of this poorly drafted bill before the senate.

Why was this bill done in secret and why have they tried to pass with no debate or no amendments. i know why and so do most thinking Americans. They even bypassed all established proceedures so they could try to ram this down our collective throats.

I received this message from Senator Coburn today.  I am so proud

Dr Coburn yesterday voted against a procedural motion to proceed to an immigration proposal that will offer amnesty to the nations estimated 12 million illegal immigrants.

In a news release Dr Coburn said, "The American people want Congress to fix our broken immigration system, but this bill takes the wrong approach.  Offering amnesty to illegal immigrants and not taking steps to secure our borders is the wrong way to approach immigration reform and will only postpone meaningful reform"

Dr Coburn believes we must first secure our borders and enforce existing law.  He is against any amnesty provision of any kind.  Dr Coburn believes we must improve our visa system and prosecute those businesses which knowingly employ illegal workers.  He also feels we should give law enforcement officials the necessary resources and authority to combat illegal immigration and deport those violating the law.

Dr Coburn strongly believes we should not give illegal immigrants government welfare benefits of any kind.  He supports designating English as our national language and believes we should end the practice of 'chain migration', or birthright citizenship, for the children of illegal immigrants.

Interesting to note that Senator Inhofe has not only introduced a stand alone bill to make English the official language of the United States, he submits amendments to other bills as often as he can to that effect.

On that subject I have learned that providing government assistance in languages other than English is not a law, but an Executive Order put in place by Bill Clinton ( #13166) and can be rescinded by any succeeding President.

At the beginning of the month he also introduced his own immigration control bill titled E.N.F.O.R.C.E.   s.1269.  You can look that up on THOMAS.

I emailed both Senators yesterday, with no responses from either. I will call them tomorrow to reiterate the stances of myself as well as millions of Americans in our "dislikening" of this fast-track legislation. Americans are speaking...will our government listen?

I also recieved the same email from Sen Coburn as msbobbie and am proud of both him and Inhofe. I have not received response from Inhofe's office but when i called them Monday, they informed me that he would not vote for amnesty in any form. If our state can pass HB1804 it would be a great start for the Federal government to establish the same without costing americans millions of dollars. Guess that would be too simple. I think they make it harder than it should be so they can appear to be working hard. Oklahoma HB1804 addresses 4 major issues, the main ones in my opinion. I intend to ask these questions of Coburn and Inhofe and see if they could look into this as a possibility.

Oklahoma representatives make me proud to say "I'm from Oklahoma"!  Senator Inhofe sent me a 2 page letter today and will definitely again vote against any form of amnesty.  I haven't heard from Coburn but he voted no yesterday.

I'm new here.  I received this yesterday from Sen. Coburn.

Thank you for contacting me about the perpetuating problem of illegal immigration in our country. It is good to hear from you.

It is extremely important to me that I hear the opinions and concerns of Oklahomans, especially on such a pressing issue. The American people are demanding action on illegal immigration, and Congress must listen. The financial cost of this problem on American taxpayers - from the strain it places on our health care and educational system, to government welfare benefits and worker wage suppression - is enormous and nearly impossible to accurately measure. I am disappointed the federal government has refused to address this problem in a timely manner. It is simply unacceptable to allow such blatant violation of our laws to continue. On May 17, a bi-partisan group of Senators reached a compromise with President Bush on a comprehensive reform bill, which is the legislation that will soon be debated by the Senate. I was not involved in the compromise, and I will meticulously analyze each section of the bill before debate begins. This legislation may likely surpass 1,000 pages, and I expect there will be dozens of amendments offered on specific issues. Please know I have established fundamental principles that will guide my votes on the bill and its amendments, and I will not support any measure that contradicts these principles. In order for the bill to receive my support, it must secure our borders and enforce existing law, and it must not contain an amnesty provision of any kind. The bill must improve our visa system and prosecute those businesses which knowingly employ illegal workers. The bill must give law enforcement officials the necessary resources and authority to combat illegal immigration and deport those violating the law. The bill must not give illegal immigrants government welfare benefits of any kind, including Social Security. I will support a measure designating English as our national language, and I also believe we should reconsider the intent of the 14th Amendment regarding birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants. My position on this issue has not changed, and I will continue actively working to enact reform based on the ideas above. I welcome your continued feedback as the Senate begins debate on immigration reform.

Again, thank you for continuing to contact me on this issue. Best wishes.

Sincerely, A

Tom Coburn

United States Senator

it is heart warming to see so many new members to this thread and this young organization.  please email all your contacts and encourage them to join with us so that we can increase membership to the point that our voices will have a strong impact on the direction our country takes.  the libs are very vocal and it is time that we became vocal also rather than sitting back and hoping  that ethics and logic prevail.

Senators Inhofe and Coburn are firmly against anything that smells like amnesty.  Why not send them an email in the form of a THANK YOU instead?

Ladyshondra, do you receive the weekly updates from State Party Headquarters?  Go to okgop.com and on the left near the bottom there is a place to enter your email address and click SUBSCRIBE.

This board will not allow cut and paste, but go to  http://thomas.loc.gov. Type s.1269 in the search box, check bill number, click search. This is the bill Senator Inhofe has introduced and it is very much like HB1804, but stiffer, since State Law cannot contradict current Federal Law.

I received this response from Dan Boren today

Thank you for contacting me regarding illegal immigration.  It is always a pleasure for me to hear from my fellow Oklahomans.

I am opposed to illegal immigration.  I also feel strongly that our first priority should be securing our borders so that we know who is entering our country.  This is a matter of national security and cannot be dismissed lightly.  In addition, it is important to protect hardworking Oklahomans from unfair competition in the job market.  I also believe that our existiting immigration laws need to be enforced more strictly, and I have supported increased funding for state and local law enforcement and the Border Patrol to deal with the issue of immigration.

(Paraphrased for space) In the 109th Congress he voted for the following bills:  HR6061, HR4830, HR6094, and HR6095.  He also voted in favor of NR 4437, and states that it did not include a guest worker program and no amendments to create a guest worker program were considered.

As the 110th Congress continues to debate immigration issues, you can rest assured that I will do everything I can to secure our borders and safeguard quality jobs for hardworking Oklahomans.

To OneAmericanMom:  The vote Monday was just about whether or not to proceede.  All of those people would have voted YES and they knew there wasn't going to be any doubt about which way that would go.  Bet your bottom dollar they will be there for the final vote, whenever that is going to be.

I am surprised at Kyl and at Lindsey Graham also.

I received that letter from Congressman Boren also, Viola

Beautiful story, WentSouth.  I am going to swipe it to carry to some other boards.
