Senator Pat Roberts Issues Statement on Immigration Bill Proposal
WASHINGTON, DC – In voting against the motion to proceed to debate on the Immigration Reform Bill, S. 1348, U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today released the following statement:
"In dealing with immigration reform, the Senate has repeated the mistake of the last session – a closed-door deal without committee hearings, informing Senators and staff of last minute details just before a vote, and a threat by the Senate Majority Leader that the closed-door deal by a handful of Senators was the only option or the Senate would reconsider last session’s failed bill.
"I oppose this bill. I oppose it because it includes amnesty and rewards immigrants for illegal conduct. I oppose it because there is no reliable cost estimate. I oppose it because the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration lacks resources and management to make the so-called reforms work and would be overwhelmed with a monumental workload increase.
"I oppose it because I believe it to be unworkable, impractical and most of all because, once again, this was a back room deal and in shutting out many Senators of one of the most important issues of our time has been subjugated to politics and unworkable compromise."
Sen. Roberts is pretty consistent in his opposition to this kind of atrocious immigration reform. Sen. Brownback seems to waffle. One thing I always try to do is to thank my senator when he votes, as Sen. Roberts did above, in the country's best interests. So, yeah, hold their feet to the fire but when they do what you want, a thank you is never amiss.
I received this email directly from a Brownback staffer:
Senator Brownback did vote for cloture last night because he thinks it is important for the Senate to debate the issue of immigration, but he does have some reservations about the bill and the process.
I think Brownback is one of the keys. He has good political reasons (i.e. presidential aspirations) to find a reason not to vote for this bill. It shouldn't be too tough considering what's in this bill. I think he's one of the best targets we have to switch his vote from last year.
Sorry, but I would not consider him as much hope. Personally I believe the only reason he would even think to oppose amnesty at this time is because he is running for president. I just don't see much hope there. I was not at all surprised by his vote.
I will continue to contact Senator Brownback and urge him to vote against the amnesty legislation while at the same time continue to contact Senator Roberts and thank him and urge him to hold his ground.
For what it's worth, if you are having trouble composing a note to Senators, this is the email I have sent to every Senator for the past week urging them to stop the amnesty bill.
I write to implore you to stand up for the rights of American citizens and to abide by your oath of office "to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic...and to faithfully discharge the duties of your office".
As a Vietnam war veteran myself, I am disappointed with the stand Senator John McCain has taken to press for amnesty for illegal aliens to the detriment of his own country. I urge you to stand against Senator McCain and Senator Kennedy and the others who are on the wrong side of this issue. Millions of Americans have expressed their objections to this ill-conceived legislation which will damage America for decades to come, and they will be watching to see which side you take, America's or the invaders'.
The pending legislation to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens must be defeated, or it will create a disaster for our country. Future generations of American citizens must not be burdened with the more than Two and One half TRILLION Dollar cost of this disastrous legislation. I should not have to list all of the negative effects it will have on taxpayers for generations to come, read the studies if you doubt the outcome, but just the financial drain on Social Security and Medicare alone will destroy those already faltering programs. Forcing a vote on legislation whose costs have not been examined and for which virtually no hearings and debate have been held -- while it is still being written -- is folly, and it is NOT a process known to anyone who believes in representative government. It would seem that foreign governments and illegal aliens have more representation in these proceedings than do the American taxpayers. Will the "Z" in the new "Z visa" stand for "Zapata" or "Zorro" or "aZtlan", the mythical place of origin of the aZtec people?
Rewarding invaders who have broken our laws by entering illegally with the precious gift of American citizenship and undeserved access to benefits paid by and reserved for American citizens is neither "fair" nor "moral", and stealing the retirement benefits, medicare, and medicaid from American senior citizens who have paid into the system for their entire lives along with overburdening our public schools and hospitals with millions of illegal aliens is NOT the "right thing to do" as some politicians have said. Let the Mexican government and the governments of the other invading countries pay the cost to educate and care for THEIR citizens. The United States does not need millions more unskilled, uneducated aliens who have no desire to assimilate into our citizenry while excluding educated and skilled workers from all over the world denied entry while trying for years to obtain visas through the legal immigration process. Our own failing public education system is producing plenty of illiterate and unskilled graduates to meet any future needs for such workers.
If you want to grant amnesty to anyone, grant it to American citizens who are being forced to pay to feed, house, clothe, and medicate these invaders to the exclusion of our own families. Defeat this amnesty for illegals legislation now. Filibuster if necessary.
Brownback will vote yes for Amnesty. He was a driving force for it last year.Sam is from my part of Ks and has always been for it. He follows the money.Always has ever since School. He is a Corp. Man from the git go. Dont trust him. you will be sorry.

Hey, at this point, Brownbackis off my list, because he also voted to give SS benefits to illegals. I am very sure he is concerned about the issue now, since I personally let him know he blew it, and I seriously doubt that I am alone there.
What really gets me with the bill is that it is supposed to exclude "criminal" illegals aliens, when, by definition, ALL of them are criminals, since they broke the law by coming here in the first place. I think, if this passes, we need to demand the removal of all of them, since they want to word it that way. Yeah, yeah, I know, never happen, but this is really starting to get to me.
We have very little in the way of good people for '08. Romney is way too slick, and there is something about the guy I do not trust. Guillani is pro-choice, and that's an automatic "no" for me. McCain, who might be ok, I can no longer trust since he took part in that fiasco of a "campaign finance reform" nonsense. Thanks, in part, to that, we have people like Soros running an entire party, and our side is seriously handicapped. Tancredo is the only one I trust at all on immigration, but I would love to hear where he is on the other issues. That is THE most important one at this pojnt, but it isn't the only one.
Prayer, people, is what we have, and that's about it.
Ephesians 6:12 - "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." REMEMBER THE ALAMO! America for Americans - the confused need not apply.
You can find out all about Tom Tancredo at his campaign site. He is a true Conservative -- all "A" and "A+" ratings. Last night he was interviewed by Mark Levin on his radio program. At the end, Mark asked how people could help him. He did not hesitate. He said pray for him. Most politicians would send you to their website and ask for donations. Anyway, here is the website.
I am from Kansas and I let Senator Brownback know that he will go down in history as the "Amnesty Senator" if he votes for this bill. I also let him know I will no longer support him as senator or presidential candidate if he votes yes. Probably won't make much of a difference to him what I think until he is up for re-election again. Might be a surprise there.
Brownback is spineless, it should be Roberts running in 2008. Ive already sent my thanks to Roberts for doing what's right for America. Brownback stands for absolutely nothing. He is led by that ring in his nose, where the administration needs him to be, they can count on him allowing them to mold him like a piece of clay.
Some of you missed my point on Brownback. I'm not suggesting you support him for president, rather, use the fact that he's running as leverage on this issue. There are political reasons for him to find a reason to vote against this bill. Let's squeeze him a bit.
I WAS IN NEW YORK NOT LONG AGO AND I VISITED LADY LIBERTY. TEARS CAME DOWN MY FACE WHEN I STOOD IN FRONT OF HER AND I SAW A BIG TEAR ON HER CHEEK SO I ASKED HER WHAT'S WRONG? SHE TOLD ME I CAN TALK TO YOU BECAUSE I REMEMBER THE IRISH AND POLISH SIDE OF YOUR FAMILY PASSING IN FRONT OF ME WITH "AMERICAN" FLAGS IN THEIR HANDS, THEY WAVED THERE FLAGS AND SMILED AT ME ON THERE WAY TO "ELLIS" ISLAND I CAN STILL HEAR THEM YELLING "GOD BLESS AMERICA" I WAS SO HAPPY BACK THEN..........SHE SIGHED AND SAID NOW I'M SAD, NO ONE PASSES ME NOW, THEY GO OVER FENCES, OR THROUGH TUNNELS THEY TAKE AND TAKE FROM ME YET WON'T SUPPORT ME. THEY WANT TO HAVE CHILDREN HERE, SO THEY BECOME AMERICAN'S THEY DON'T PAY TAXES, YET WANT FREE CARE AND COST THE REAL AMERICANS BILLIONS. WHERE DID I GO WRONG SHE ASKED ME...I SAID YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG WE STILL HAVE THE MILLIONS OF "LEGAL" AMERICANS THAT WILL FIGHT WITH THEIR BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS FOR OUR COUNTRY AND THEY WILL MAKE OUR CONGRESS AND SENATE START DOING THE RIGHT THINGS FOR OUR COUNTRY AND I PROMISE YOU THAT....OK? SHE GAVE ME A SLIGHT SMILE AND SAID OK.....AND CAN YOU TELL AMERICA SOMETHING FOR ME, I SAID YES, SHE SAID TELL ALL THE "REAL AMERICANS THAT I STILL LOVE THEM" AND I WANT AMERICA TO BE GREAT AGAIN......THANKS AMERICA FOR READING THIS.
I just emailed Brownback again telling him that if he doesn't reconsider, he'll recieve little backing from his own state for his run in 2008. I'm backing Duncan Hunter...he wants to put the rest of the border fence up, and he is the driving force in seeing that Compean and Ramos are pardoned for doing thier jobs. He also wants to even up the trade deficit with that wonderful communist country called China.
Oh yea....we didn't miss your point Steve...we'll keep the pressure on Brownback.
Lower man on the totum pole Tom Tancredo for President, he will do something about border security, and illegal immigrants, been talking about it for years, not just a johnny come lately.
