Let's use this thread to help us track how Senators say they are going to vote on the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill. Find stories online or better yet -- call and document how these senators from this state are going to vote. If you call, include date/time of your call.

Switchboard: 202-224-3121.

Be sure to ask:

1--Does the senator support the Bush-Kennedy comprehensive amnesty bill?

2-- Will the Senator vote to "invoke cloture" (i.e. end debate) on the amnesty bill?

Subject: A message from Senator Ken Salazar

Dear Charles:

Thank you for contacting me regarding immigration reform. I appreciate hearing from you on this very important issue.

Let me first say that I can certainly understand the strong feelings on all sides of this difficult and urgent issue.  My own approach to the issue of immigration reform is based on two guiding principles.  First and foremost, in order to put a stop to the flow of illegal immigrants into our nation, our bordersmust be secured and our lawsmust be enforced.  Second, we need a system for dealing with the twelve million undocumented immigrants already in the U.S. that is practical, fair, and firm.

On May 17, after intense negotiations spanning the course of months, I joined a bipartisan, ideologically diverse group of senators in announcing that an agreement had been reached on comprehensive immigration reform legislation. This agreement is an important first step forward toward fixing our broken immigration system, and I believe it reflects the multi-faceted nature of the urgent problem we face as a nation.

The agreement has four major components.  First, it would secure our porous borders through the construction of 370 miles of fencing, 200 miles of vehicle barriers, and the deployment of 70 ground-based radar and camera towers. The legislation would strengthen the enforcement of our immigration laws by increasing the number of Border Patrol agents, deploying resources to detain 27,500 illegal immigrants a day on an annual basis, and increasing the number of interior and workplace enforcement inspectors. It would also hold employers accountable for illegal hiring practices by requiring them to electronically verify the legal status of new hires and all existing employees under the threat of heavy fines for noncompliance, a change from current law. Collectively, all of these measures will improve our national security and diminish the flow of illegal immigrants into our country. They are the centerpiece and the emphasis of this legislation.

Second, once the benchmarks outlined above are met, and only once the new security measures are implemented, the legislation provides for the creation of a new temporary worker program to fill jobs for which American workers cannot be found. Under this program, employers could hire temporary workers only after they advertised and made attempts to hire American workers.  I believe this program, if implemented properly, will go a long way toward helping farmers, ranchers, and businesses across Colorado and the nation.  At the same time, I will work to ensure there is proper oversight and enforcement of the program’s provisions designed to protect American workers.

Third, the legislation would augment the current visa system, which stresses family ties in the allocation of visas, to include a merit-based point system that would take into account an applicant's previous experience in a high-demand occupation, as well as his/her educational level and English proficiency.  While I believe the changes to our current visa system would help America remain competitive in the global economy, I also believe it must be constructed and implemented in a way that preserves our longstanding commitment to bringing families together in our immigration policy.

Finally, the legislation would allow undocumented workers currently in the U.S. to continue working here while applying for renewable four-year visas. After eight years, workers who are granted these visas would then be given the opportunity to earn their permanent residency (a green card).  In order to do so, however, they would be required to pay a fine, remain crime-free, demonstrate English proficiency, go to the back of the line behind current green card/citizenship applicants, submit to rigorous background checks, and to return to their country of origin to file the application.

Some claim that this border security, enforcement, and visa system is amnesty. They are wrong. This proposal does not absolve undocumented workers from their responsibility to the rule of law. It recognizes, however, that many of these workers are contributing members of our society, and as such, it provides a strict and thorough process through which they can come out of the shadows and right their wrongs in a manner that is humane, fair, and consistent with our values.

This agreement represents only a first step, and I will be the first to admit that it is not perfect. But it is my strong conviction that we cannot allow the perfect to get in the way of the good. The problem of immigration has festered for too long, and the time is now to tackle it head on.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your views.

Sincerely,

Ken Salazar
United States Senator

So are both the Worms in the Senate for PA.I called,faxed,e-mailed,and they still voted yes today.I told their staff that if they voted yes on this that I considered it nothing less than treason against the american people,which it is! I also told them I would never vote for anyone that helps pass an amnesty!

Ken Salazar has committed political suicide. It was bad enough he was in the national spotlight butt kissing Kennedy on stage, but for him to actually think his constituents in Colorado are that ignorant to his back room shenanigans, or to think we have such a short memory, then he will be in for a rude awakening coming election day!! I called and wrote his office and received the same canned response. How come the French for once have it right on this issue:

Stevefly, you're absolutely right!!! Salazar is history in this state.  I want him voted out just like you.  He really is a one term zero!  He is part of the "Race" period.  Three cheers for France to have the courage to stand up and throw them out!  This balkanizing the U.S. has got to stop, and it must stop this year.  We can't afford for this to move any further forward.  The smug elected officials in Washington need to have a huge message sent to them and the sooner the better!

March for America on June 14.,15. 16, 2007,  the 16th in the states!  If anyone can help to set this up in Colorado then get a hold of the Let Freedom Ring website and let them know!  We need the faces to be seen that go with all the faxes, phone calls, and letters to these people!  Help if you possibly can!

While your there check out the Traitor John campaign and the "Let you voices be heard campaign"!  Please donate to the campaign for the porta potties for Washington!  Send a message at the same time... Buy a tee shirt for the march!  Every penny will help!

Our "respected" Sen. Salazar is a driving force behind the AMNESTY bill. check out his track record on www.numbersusa.com . Less obvious is who has bought and paid for him. Is it the Colorado meat packing companies, Mexican Drug Cartel or other financial interests in Mexico? Whoever he serves it definitely isn't the CITIZENS OF COLORADO and legal Immigrants who come from other races, creeds and national origins. He took an oath to serve the constitution and "We The People". The fact that he services only those that are here illegally brands him a Racist and Traitor to this nation.

I would personally like to see him sued for every traffic death, murder, theft and job taken away from a citizen in this state and nation. He is obviously sanctioning criminal activity. He should be declared "Colorado Public Enemy Number 1".

At the very least a recall election should be initiated.

"You don't have to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing". If we don't act, the law-abiding citizens of this country can just kiss it goodbye.

Hello patriots

 I am a long time Colorado resident that unfortunately knew nothing of these organized plans to let the politicians know we are taking back our country until today. I have been calling, emailing, and faxing my senators and congressman for weeks. All I receive are the same form letters you all are getting.

It was mentioned that help may be needed in Colorado for organizing our message. I want to help any way I can. I already contacted LFRAmerica.com to offer my assistance. If there is anything else I can help with, just tell me what it is.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 22, 2007

ARLINGTON, VA – The United Republicans of California (UROC) have unanimously endorsed Congressman Ron Paul for president of the United States. UROC, formed in 1963 to support Barry Goldwater, represents the traditional conservative wing of the California Republican Party.

"The unanimous endorsement from the United Republicans of California proves what the campaign has been saying all along," said campaign chairman Kent Snyder. "Ron Paul is the only true conservative and real Republican in the race."

In their official statement endorsing Dr. Paul, UROC called him "the leading advocate for freedom in our nation's capital" and recognized that:

Ron Paul's voting record demonstrates that he has voted against:

· raising taxes;
· unbalanced budgets;
· a federal restriction on gun ownership;
· raising congressional pay; or
· increasing the power of the executive branch.

His voting record demonstrates further that he voted against:

· the USA Patriot Act;
· regulating the Internet; and
· the war in Iraq.

Dr. Paul is the only candidate with a record that matches the UROC's platform.

"Whether the issue is life, the Second Amendment, foreign policy, spending or taxes, Ron Paul is the only traditional conservative candidate," continued Snyder. "Traditional conservatives across the country should support Ron Paul for president."

 About Ron

Border Security and Immigration Reform  From Website: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/html/issue-Border_fx.html

The talk must stop.  We must secure our borders now.  A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked.  This is my six point plan:

  1. Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.
  2. Enforce visa rules.  Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law.  This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.
  3. No amnesty.  Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.
  4. No welfare for illegal aliens.  Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules.  But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.
  5. End birthright citizenship.  As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.
  6. Pass true immigration reform.  The current system is incoherent and unfair.  But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation.  This is insanity.  Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods.
