The United States could take in up to 25,000 Iraqi refugees this year -- more than three times the number it previously agreed to admit -- in an effort to provide some relief to the crisis affecting several Arab countries, the State Department said yesterday.

The department also said it plans to allow Iraqis and Afghans working for the U.S. government in their respective countries to immigrate to the United States after only three years of service instead of the current 15 required by law.

"It's fair to say that, if we get the referrals [from the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees], we could resettle up to 25,000 Iraqi refugees within the president's determination this year," said Ellen Sauerbrey, assistant secretary of state for population, refugees and migration.

The Bush administration, criticized for resettling only 466 Iraqis since the war began in 2003, said last month that it could accept as many as 7,000 of the more than 2 million Iraqi refugees this year. The annual worldwide refugee cap set by Congress is 75,000.

And who pray tell, is going to check on these people's background?  Their police, HA they can't even find the insurgents, our Homeland security, fat chance, they'll get the information from Iraq files and we all know they are honest???? So when the device goes off in this country we can then send our refugees to their country. Right!  Caustic remark, yes it is, I'm tired of having all these non citzens being dumped in this country every time a country gets in a bind.  I have what is considered a stupid question in these times, WHEN THE HELL IS SOMEONE GOING TO CARE AND HELP THIS COUNTRy's CITIZENS without dumping more problems in our laps courtesy of those idiots  in Washington.

Oh sure why not......after all we need some more bomb scares about now dont we Bush. I know why you need it too.

They dont intend to check on them. they need something questionable so that people will be even more afraid so big brother can tighten his grip on citizens to keep them safe.....lol. Get it?? When you take guns from citizens it makes the criminal obey the law. When you give citizens IDs to know where they are it helps them know where criminals are. When you purposely allow conditions to create fear people will even go for it.

They can't keep track of who's in this country now, or who's coming INTO this country now .. how the hell are they going to keep track of 25,000 more people?  I hope Bush's ranch is big, he's going to need a lot of room to take care of all these people.

This is bull!!!  These people have a country.  These people should be moved into countries closer to their home land so that when the time comes they can safely go home!  This is a ploy to bring into our country a people that do not understand our way of life, and it would bring a culture here that lives by a whole different set of values!  Have any of you see the pictures of the Muslims in England?  WE Don't need these people here, now or ever! This is just another way to integrate the U.S. with more races of people and cause more culture wars!  This has got to be stopped. I don't give a hoot what the damn U.N. demands!  We should have a say in who come into our country to live!  They aren't ever going to assimilate because they are probably being brought here against their will anyway.  That's what happens when you're building a Europen Union!  We need to put up one hell of a fight over this! Write to your Congressmen and women now! 

25,000 more immigrants on welfare the rest of their lives ? Plus their children that will be born here.  It's time to say enough ! America was once the melting pot, we are now the salad bowl !

If Jorde Bushie wants them here, Crawford, Texas might take them. The voters have no say in either party. This can't last much longer.

     Bring 'em all to Tennessee....someplace nice like Tellico Plains or some other rural area.......the Christians there will straighten 'em out.  If they don't, the Klan will.

     The Detroit area, Dearborn, Michigan, has the largest population of arabs outside of the middle east.  What most people won't tell you is how much trouble they are and what assholes they are.  They have no respect for women at all, not even their own.  They are also inordinately arrogant and pushy.  What they best understand is a good ass kicking.  Unfortunately, they don't get their asses kicked often enough.  Tennessee could change that for them.  These nice folks don't take no stuff!

The Bush administration says it has surpassed its goal of allowing 12,000 Iragi refugees into the US during the current budget year after streamlining the admissions process.

Officals said Friday that with half a month to go before the Sept 30 deadline, 12,118 Iraqi refugees had arrived in the country since Oct. and more are on the way. The administration has been critcized for not doing enough to help Iraqis who have fled their country and last year pledged to improve it's record.

The Depts of State and Homeland Security say they are working to boost the minimun goal for the next budget year, which begins Oct. 1 But they say that theamount of increse will depend largely on the developments in Iraq and neighboring countries where most of the more than 2 MILLION Iraqi refugees seek shelter.

Well, fancy that!

Who will work at the lowest wage? A Mexican/Hispanic illegal or a legal Muslim?  If I were of the illegal Hispanic persuasion, I would be pretty upset about these people coming in to do the jobs that Mexicans/Hispanics won't do!

There seems to be plenty of room in Mexico - how about Bush contacting his buddy Calderon to take them in?
