Radical Islam....what is the percentage?

Of course I realize that nobody really knows.  I am a fan of Glenn Beck but that does not mean that I blindly agree with everything that he says.  I do think that he is one of the few people on TV and Radio that is truly bringing the real issues to light.

One of the biggest issues that I have with him though is his continued insistance that the radicals make up only an estimated 10% of the Islmanic population.  Please hear me out here.  I am NOT saying that all people who practice Islam are bad.  Like any of religion, I am sure that there are those who are reasonable and peace loving people.  I just think that the 10% number of radicals is probably way off the mark.

I base my opinion on the fact that I just don't believe that the vast majority of Islamics are cowards.  That is what you would have to believe.  You would have to believe that only the 10% of the racials are the ones who are brave enough to stand up and fight for what they believe.  You would have to believe that there are only a small handful of the remaining 90% who are brave enough to stand against that radical 10%?  That just makes no sense to me.

Mr. Beck reported a few days ago that a recent survey in Britain showed that a full 65% of the Muslims there believe that Sharia law should rule.  This is the same law that believes in the stoning of women and many other attrocities.  How can it be said that only 10% are radical but 65% support Sharia law?  In my opinion, anybody who is in favor of Sharia law is also a radical.

In my opinion, the percentage of radicals is far higher than the 10% often quoted.  I think it is a fact that maybe as few as 10% actually directly support or participate in any type of terroist activity but that a very high percentage are sympathetic to the cause of the radicals.

I also think that Mr. Becks own religious beliefs may very well be the reason that he refuses to budge from his position.  Not only will he not address this but I have heard him, many time, hang up on callers to his radio show that even try to suggest that the numbers are much higher.

I think that he is over sensitive to this issue due to the fact that his Mormon faith has been unfairly criticized over the years due to the very low percentage of his own faith that still practice polygamy even though it is against the official position of the Mormon church.   I am not a Mormon and do not believe in the Book of Mormon but also know that the very vast majority of Mormons are good, decent and law abiding citizins and have often been slandered in our history.  I think that this has made him sensitive to the percentages of radical Islamists.  

I have emailed Mr. Beck a couple of times about this but he has never responded.  I know that he gets a lot of email so quiet possibly never even saw it.  I also know though that this is one subject that he steadfastly refuses to entertain the possibility that he MIGHT be wrong. 

 

dknelson,I  believe you are right.The number Glenn Beck mentions has to be way off the mark.One of his recent guest(the one who wrote book about leaving islam)even said that"in Europe that islam is islam and that there are no adjectives in front of the islam title".Meaning they who read the Qur'an know what it says and means!!Like some who call themselves Christian in this country,"they go to church on Christmas and Easter and never open the bible".The same with some(the non-violent ones)who have never open a Qur'an.They were raised around it(islam) and associate with the culture!

I agree that the number is much higher than 10%.I personally know alot af arabs mostly lebanese,and most of the ones I know are big supporters of Hamas and Hesbollah,whose motto is death to America,I am not talking about hate filled people I am talking middle class hard working american citizens,people who seemingly love America and like Americans.I have long discussion with them and cannot stop them from hating Israel or supporting Hesbollah.It is very complicated but alot of the news they see is al jazeera,you can purchase it on cable TV it  should not be shown in the US.My guess is 65% Supporters ,but no more than 10% or 15% active supporters.

If there are 65% supporters, they wouldn't need more that 10 or 15% to do enough damage.

 I have yet to see the Islamic moderates come forth to condem the extremists.

As long as anybody worships by the Koran, and follows Mohammad, there are no moderates.  They ALL support the terrorists, but because THEY ARE OUTNUMBERED they don't DO anything.  BACKSTABBING LIEING AND BETRAYAL ARE ALL A PART OF THEIR SO-CALLED RELIGION!
