I suspect Johnny cant read because Bush adopted Ted Kennedys No Child Left Behind plan. Not enough teachers, because of overcrowded classrooms, dumb every child down to the same level.Liberals have taken over our schools, colleges, our country.Must have diversity you know.College kids are being brainwashed by their professors.A lot of them state they will vote in the next election,Lord, help our republic!
Diversity....divide and conquer anyone see a tie in here. Democrat Vs. Republican.....Abortion vs Pro life.......Liberal Vs Conservative...... All very DEVISIVE issues and politicains to keep your eye off of the real ball while they and the CFR work towards their goal of a one world government.
Doing a good job at it too.
Johnny will never be able to read form here on out because that's what benefits the CFR, a stupid public is easily led astray.
Johnny can't read because his teacher can't spell, and probably neither can mommy or daddy, unfortunately. His teacher is probably too busy indoctrinating him than teaching him the 3R's. ("And what do you want to be when you grow up, Johnny?" "Well, teacher, I want to stay in school until I become another Ward Churchill, on the public dole, but with respect." "And you, Mary?" "Well, teacher, I expect to go to work for George Soros one day." "Very admirable, students." ) I had to teach my three children phonics one summer. When they returned to school the next year, all three of them could finally read any word. Ever get notices from schools with misspelled words?
I vote the Bible, support Israel, and love my God and Country.
how about News papers with both ads and articles who's writers can't use these correctly ... then/than..there/their....and other simple word usage. I guess 'em people ares the produk of a good edumacachun......lol
zman61,Bethany Bay,Good ones!LOL. When I look at my Grandson&Grand-Daughters work they do at school,I can hardly read it!They are being taught to spell a word the way it sounds, and not the way its supposed to be spelled. My daughter said the same thing, that their teacher looks at a book for the answers to math problems. We must have our teachers unions though.Parents rights ends at the school door now.Good old liberal judges have ruled that parents no longer have exclusive rights to what their child is taught. They now use Hillarys book,"It takes a village".BARF!Then you have the National Education Association, that uses union dues to back gay rights groups.www.EagleForum.org is a good website to keep up with whats going on in schools, and colleges.
The future body of the one world government, the U.N., is always trying to get control of our kids. They actively push to have sole authority over the way a parent teaches and discipline their kids. I remember the thing a few months about spelling the way a word sounds. this is just another step in the dumbing down of Americans. When you consistently dumb down the population over a few decades it makes it easier for the people that want to control the world to work towards that end.....CFR puppeteering at it's best.....Raise stupid kids that is exactly what they want
ZMAN61,Exactly.Though not long ago,a lot of the higher ups, engineers, scientists, have recommended that board of education and schools,go back to the more common way of teaching math,as in addition, subtraction, division multiplication,as they realize that the new math isnt working.Children are failing!I doubt that they ever will go back to the proven methods though, because someone may then wake up and finally realize that, hey,if our children are smarter, then why is our crummy government importing so many forign workers from India, and other countries, that we dont need anyway! Then, they might have to rehire all of the americans they have gotten rid of,for the cheaper labor from other countries. We are number 12 in the world, and falling.
The reason Johnny can't read has less to do with government than with parents' willingness to condone their children's poor performance. The main thing governments need to do is LOCAL: school boards must demand our schools top the practice of issuing a "pass" to students who have "failed" in an effort to get students "through the system."

Mommy and Daddy don't know what good or bad behaviour is because for a couple of decades now our public schools have been devoid of any teachings of what right and wrong is. A couple of generations have been raised by the Boob tube. The moral decay(nothing to do with religion just basic right and wrong) in our society is a big problem and as I stated earlier the powers that be want an uneducated populus. It suits their needs and furthers them towards their goal of a One World Government
Many of the reasons stated contribute to "Why Johnny can't read". But here is a major reason. Most parents think that their child can do no wrong. If he gets in trouble at school for beating up Billy, it is the school's fault, not their child. If the child does not do their homework and fails the test, it is the school's fault not the child. In stead of backing discipline in the schools, parents sue the schools.
Second, it is a misconception that Johnny can't read. I will put our students up against any country in the world. Look at these facts.
1. All students in the U.S. is compared against the top students from other countries. Put our top students against their top students and ours are better. The U.Sl is the only country in the world that insists that every student will be educated. In many European countries somewhere between 10 and 13 years of age, their students are only allowed to go to high school if they are the smartest. The rest go to trade school.
2. Why does the rest of the world send their children to the U.S. to go to college if we are so far behind them?
3. Why do world leaders and the rich come to the U. S. to get medical treatment?
4. Why is the U.S. the leader in new technology.
Most children get a good education in America. It is the inner city schools that fail our children.
As a teacher and a parent, here is what I see on a regular basis.
* children walking to school with a candy of some kind in one hand and a soda in the other - how well do you think they can pay attention when they are hyped up on sugar
* children that come to school and have not slept because their parents have them going in ten different directions every evening of the week
* children without God in their lives - therefore, they are willing to do anything except the right thing
* parents that just don't care - they think it's up to the parents to do everything including toliet train their kids
* over crowded rooms, not enough books, teachers that can't teach because they are expected to all teach alike - administrators that are afraid to discipline kids because they don't want to deal with the parents when they get irate
* school districts that invest more money in sports than they do in educating the children
* teachers that are also coaches and can't do either of them correctly
* teachers that think just because they have taken a 40 hour course that they are an expert in the subject
* teachers that just teach to have the information regurgitated instead of actually learned and appreciated
I could go on but I'm sure you get the point - I have found that I care too much and expect too much. I also argue with my own children's teachers and administrators so much I know I will never find a job in the area that I live but when I weigh that against being able to defend my children and fight for what I believe in... I'm happy just working part-time in education so I can keep one eye on my kids.
keywood1968,unfortunately,a lot of what you said is also true, about some teachers, some parents, and some kids.Im sure its bad in city schools.Lou Dobbs said there is a 50% dropout rate for black children, and a 50% dropout rate for latinos, and I would guess that he was mainly talking about city schools. Also, some states dont automatically pass a child. In Pa.I know at least a couple of kids that are still in their third year in the ninth grade, because they have to go a minimun number of days to pass, and they dont. One of them is 18 years old.I also read recently that if they didnt have to lump all the races grades together, the U.S.would be number one.I dont know if all of this is true, just what I read. But I do believe we are headed for a one world communist rule, unless we americans can do something to stop it!
Poland is only ahead of our Kids becuase they are comparing their top kids to all our kids. That means the ones with low IQ, learning disabilities, etc. In Poland they aren't even allowed to go to school. If the study included all the children in Poland from 5 to 18, they would not even begin to compare to ours. There are problems with some American schools but falling for the Democratic line and bad mouthing your country is not helping. It's not American kids going over seas to get educatied. It is them comeing here to be educated. There is a good reason for that.
kimballwalk and kewoods1968 ~ You are both correct in your analysis of "Why Johnny Can't Read". My daughter is a teacher of 3rd grade children in Texas. I'm so very proud of her efforts and successes but I couldn't do it even though I taught a one-room school, grades PS-8, 23 students for 10 years. That was back in the 80's and early 90's. Things have changed drastically since that time. My daughter's frustrations rocket when it comes time to prepare for the "taks" test. So much weighs heavily on the success of the students when they take this test that teachers spend hours every day practice testing and basically teaching the test. It isn't a true assessment of their skills and knowledge. It only measures what they remember from the practice tests.
My frustration is with parents who expect the teachers to do all the work and think they have no responsibility when in comes to their own child’s education. How many parents know what is going on in their child’s classroom? How many parents check their children's homework? How many parents actually look at the books their kids bring home?
Both my kids knew how to read and do simple math problems before they went to Kindergarten. Most people are surprised at how easy it is to teach a young child to read! They are sponges, and all it takes is a few minutes a day reading to them and helping them sound out letters and words.
The immorality, lack of discipline and socialist indoctrination is what truly worries me, so I will live up to my responsibility and begin home schooling my daughter (I am Not a stay at home mom). I home schooled my son for two years and it is never hard to find others in the community who are already home schooling or desire to home school. I have already started working with three other parents to form a local group.
It's all about PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY the cornerstone of Conservatism, if we don't take responsibility for our children that void will be filled by someone else, and you may not be very happy with the results!

I am a high school teacher and have been in my profession for over twenty years. Students have changed in many ways over the years, just as their world has changed. The moral values of a society dictate how a society behaves. It is no wonder that many of our students are confused and lack an understanding of right and wrong. Cheating on a test or assignment is often condoned and conducted by students. When a student is caught and receives a zero, the student argues that he/she "just didn't have time to study, and it wasn't his/her fault." The student's parent then calls the teacher to proclaim, "How dare you accuse my Johnny of cheating!" I usually reply that Johnny had the right answers for the wrong test. This actually happened. The mother stormed up to my classroom after school and yelled, "You didn't even write in red on the top of the test that students are not allowed to cheat!" I then understood the student's problem! Students today, as a whole AND as a majority, are caring & good young adults. They want to succeed. Teachers take and teach all kinds of students...some with "baggage" most adults could not fathom. In one classroom of 25 to 30 students, it is not unusual to have some students learning disabled, some gifted and talented, some who cannot speak any English, some who speak limited English, some with physical handicaps, some with emotional behavior problems, some who are dyslexic, ADHD (Attention Deficit/ Hyperactive disorder), some on drugs, and some who are just "normal" students. ALL disciplines must, by law, modify curriculum to meet the specific needs of each student. It is what the majority of teachers (I hope) strive to do in the classroom. It is, however, not an easy task. In addition to the regular classroom, teachers must prepare and assign alternative assignments for students Homebound, in Alternative School, In-School Suspension, absent due to illness, or in an after school program to recapture credit due to failing grades or absences. Here's my list of why education in America is in trouble for many: 1. Students today are engulfed with information; yet, they don't know what to do with it. 2. Too many schools AND PARENTS are allowing students to come to school with their ears plugged into I-Pods and/or attached to a cell phone. 3. Text messaging during class (under the desk top or table, which is out of view of the teacher - unless the teacher is behind the student) happens frequently. 4. Students are learning through IMPOSED imagery, which is causing the majority to lose their ability to create. Very little is left to the imagination.5. "Instant messaging" and "texting" are causing students to lose their language literacy skills. Communication through text is abbreviated and often through dots and dashes.6. Clothing styles (purchased by parents) can help "mold" a student's image of him/herself and his/her peers and teachers. If a girl comes to school in provocative clothing, chances are high the parents need to visit with their daughter. A young man who comes to school in baggy, oversized low sagging pants and oversized shirts trying to look like a gangsta' quite often has trouble in school. I understand this is often viewed as stereotyping; the pattern of behavior, however, often fits the clothing selected.7. Too many parents make excuses for their child's mistakes, instead of helping them to learn from their errors. 8. Parents sometimes spend more time watching T.V. than watching or being with their children, and the MEDIA is teaching our children to idolize celebrities and doubt America. 9. Students know America stands for Freedom, but many think Freedom means they can do whatever they want to do - right or wrong.10. Students cannot define the word Ethics; Few recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag; fewer still believe our elected leaders (Republicans or Democrats) are honest.

Johnny can’t read because of liberal groups like the ACLU for starters and Dr. Spock for telling parents not to discipline their kids! Totally agree with previous post on this issue.
More reasons would be:
** You can’t discipline them because it is considered abuse or you are teaching morals and values.
** No responsibility on the students and parents part.
** The school is expected to raise them and then when they do there sued by the parent.
** No parental involvement. Kids also come from broken homes or homes with two gay parents.
** The great race divide.
** No English only law in affect. I absolutely refuse to put my child in a public school because of it. It is a great expense but well worth it! However, I hate the idea that I have to pay taxes for a public school that my child will never step foot in. I feel sorry for parents who can’t afford a private school.
When the government becomes responsible for us, We the people are no longer a free society.

Perhaps the problem is that parents have abdicated the teaching of virtues and morals to the school system and to public television.I for one, as a teacher and a parent, do not want the public education system to be the primary model for morals and virtues.Until teachers are allowed to discuss “right and wrong” in definitive terms, you will not get a good moral upbringing out of the system. I will take on the responsibility for this type of education in my home.
