January Straw Poll

Poll Among Conservatives Shows Positive Trends For November Huckabee, Thompson, Romney Favored By Increasingly Optimistic Grassroots Conservatives 1/16/07, For Immediate Release. Grassfire.org Maxwell, IA . Grassroots conservatives are steadily coming back to the Republican Party and focusing on two core issues of the war on terror and immigration, according to a new survey released by Grassfire.org. The nation's largest statistically valid survey of grassroots conservatives has found that 78% are now affiliating with the G.O.P., up 3% from December and ...

Isn't this 2008 ?  At first I thought I was reading an old article.

My personal opinion of these polls is either polls just are not accurate, or you voters are indeed a fickle lot.  From the donks race I find that many Americans want a change, a new face, no particular plan or philosophy, but something new.  I hope jerks like that don't vote. This isn't for the next pop star, this is for the noble position of President of the United States. This race should be between the best possible executives focused on the issues of the day and the issues of the people.  Immigration isn't even an issue among the donks. They are all for passing out citizenship to everyone. They do not or should I say can not fathom the burden of this policy upon the Social Security fund. They felt the same when they gave away American business free to the world. When do we get something from someone else ?  Never, yet the donks promise global healthcare...come one, come all....feed at the trough. Some people are stupid. Being generous is a virtue, but giving away that which is not yours to give is criminal. The donks border on such criminality. They cover their waste of our money with bills and laws which spend without regard of necessity and without regard for the health of the wealth of this nation. Those of us who know this call ourselves conservatives, and we have waged a war against the donks over this kind of crap for decades. Which brings us up to this coming election. We can't afford any more 'W's in the oval office. We can't afford any more sweet talking good ole boys who just want to be loved in the oval office. We can't afford any more feel good laws or bullshit like hate crimes and affirmative action, which are unconstitutional, and would be ruled such if we had honest Supreme Court Judges instead of political stooges.

Having said all that, I realize the reason we all don't see it that way is our first enemy, the Main Stream Media, the MSM.  As free men we all must separate ourselves from any media influence. The media want a weak poosy for president. The media hate a strong man except when he is a Communist dictator or an Islamic extremist. Then, they have no problem, just praise.

Truthfully, so many of our fellow citizens have already sold us out that I have little hope of recovering. Instead of the leader we need, we will pick a man who has been purchased and moves his mouth as directed by his hidden masters. The Wizard of Oz has taught us nothing.

Again, we are ignoring the best conservative candidate in the race. Let's not mimic the MSM and ignore Dr. Alan Keyes, the intellectual powerhouse of the right. Keyes is on the ballot in many states (including Kansas where I am), and he gains more supporters as people realize he is running. He has been shut out of the debates as the media tries to pick OUR candidate for us by limiting our choices to those they deem "viable." Just like with babies in the pro-life issue, let's not focus on viability, but on reality. In this race where no candidate has a majority of support, we can afford to look deeper in the pack and pick the BEST candidate ourselves. I did, and it was ALAN KEYES.

This Huxterby guy and his support among those polled here have me nearly, but not quite, apoplectic. Huckabee, according to a former staffer in the governor's office, appointed not a single conservative judge (remember those guys?); raised taxes numerous times (now says 'had to'; supported repeal of a state law denying drivers licenses to illegals; supported the amnesty bill (now denies it); support Social Security for illegals; supported tuition breaks for children of illegals, released over 700 felons from prison and pardoned nearly a hundred, one of whom, Mr. Dumond, promptly murdered a mother of six and is suspected of murdering another; had no plan but sent his staff about putting out fires - enough. He's a liberal. He's a spin artist, if not an outright liar. Carter, GA gov.; Clinton, AR gov; Huckabee, AR gov - anybody see a pattern here? But who to vote for? Trust me on this - a Paul/Kucinich ticket. If we're to go down in flames, we may as well have a laugh on the way!

THE NUMBER ONE issue in this campaign is prices to liberals and conservatives, but no candidate in either party understands it. All it takes is someone who will campaign on shutting down the gov. till drilling is re-opened in all 50 states and refineries are opened to wild cats with 6 month environmental waivers and he'll swept to power to in a historic landslide. Conservely, ignoring the issue just leaves open to economci Armeggedon should Iran or Ven. decide to cut us off. Used to be Thompson man, but he looks compromised and half hearted. Maybe Hilliary got a hold of his FBI file. Like Huck right now. Very impressed by the fact that he is openly Christian a statement which in many circles could easily get one fired. To me, NOT going to hell is my number one priority in life.

Romney I don't trust because for years he said he was pro gay marriage and pro abortion, now he says hes not. What kind of judges would he appoint?

I am absolutely amazed how those who profess to believe in the teachings and principles of Jesus Christ are for staying the course as far as our foreign policy goes. Why is it that those who subscribe, or at least profess to subscribe, to the teachings of Jesus Christ have abandoned the "just war" theory of Christianity. Jesus didn't teach us to get into a pissing contest with terrorists. He gave us principles by which if we faithfully live and conduct ourselves we would qualify for His protective care. What I see and sense more and more from the Christian Right-wing segment of politics is they act as if God has wholesale delegated to them the right to carry out vengance and that it is the strength and might of our own arms in which we are being lulled to trust. I beg of all of you with every fiber of my body and soul: Please, wake up and do some reasearch beyond what the mainstream media and your ministers are spooning to you. If Jesus could turn the other cheek and love and even forgive His enemies, even unto laying down His life, then I expect those here to either disavow themselves of being called Christians or to begin to actually be Christians in word and in deed.

There is the Right Guy and then there is a choice for the lesser of two evils.  It is just amazing that the media is molding the choices for president.  I went to all the candidate websites and looked at what they are saying and then did the research on their history.  Duncan Hunter is the Right Guy for the job of President.  Yes, he still has a chance if we get the word out.  He is NOT a quiter.  I will vote for him as long as he is in the race.  Please take a look at his website at www.gohunter08.com and see the Core Principles.  He can make a difference on Super Tuesday.

The media is pushing many democrat types like McCain and Huckaby.  My Choices are Duncan Hunter, then a very far second is Fred Thompson, followed by an even farther third place Romney.

If you wonder why peole vote for Duncan Hunter, then visit his website and learn about the candidate. I hope that you will understand.

Duncan Hunter is the True conservative in this race.

This list of Republicans is crap!! None of these guys support the issues fully and most are washouts to Democratics. Let's face it...whatever person gets in office we are going to see some sweeping changes that will turn this country from "a shining city on a hill" to the way terrorists actually picture us. Conservative - none of these guys know the meaning of the word. What are we headed to next...

Polls should be taken with the salt of the oceans.  They kind of give an idea of those who spend the time to take the poll.  Many of which never did any research and answer as a guess most of the time.  It is also said that statistics are made up on the spot 76.5% of the time (grin).

Folks, I am a conservative Republican from Arkansas. I have not decided who I will vote for on Febuary 5. However, I think I know more about Mike Huckabee than most. He signed a tax increase into law in Arkansas for education because the state Supreme Court "ordered the legislature to do so." The court said Arkansas schools were not properly funded, so taxes were raised by the legislature to fund it and Huckabee signed it into law. What Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and other conservatives are not telling you is that Governor Huckabee resided over a state legislature here in Arkansas that is about 80 to 85 percent Democrat. Sometimes you have to compromise to get things through that you want to get through. The other thing taxes were raised was for roads. The people of Arkansas voted to raise taxes and bonds to do road construction on our roads, which were about the worst in the U.S. The tax money was raised and the roads were fixed. The Governor resided over a huge road construction project that made our state have a much improved road and infrastructure system. The road construction and other projects are continuing on today.I am proud that for a change, tax money was used for what it was designated for and the privilege of driving on good roads also. We in Arkansas also had a huge government surplus and so tax rebate checks were sent to us citizens of Arkansas. This is not an endorsement of Mike Huckabee, but the truth of the matter. For people to say that Mike Huckabee is not a conservative, because he cares about the people on main street as well as Wall Street is just bogus. I have my concerns about him on pardons and immigration also, but I have immigration issues with every Republican candidate except for Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter. The rest are Johnny come lately's on this issue. Sincerely, Rodney Jackson Siloam Springs, Arkansas

I just bought a t-shirt that has a picture of Carter then a plus sign then a picture of Clinton then an equal sign then the word Huckativity.  Think it's trying to tell you something???????  DUH

Huckabee is no conservative.  I have friends who live in Arkansas.  This guy is a wolf in sheep's clothing.  Have all the evangelicals lost their marbles????

I am hoping that people finally wake up.  The only two conservatives are Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter.

Since I'm in a writin' mood, I think the same could be said for Tancredo and my dad.  All three are good conservatives.  But my dad isn't going to get elected president, and neither are these guys.  Too bad for the country, but that's just the way the system works.

The only GOP candidates are Romney, Thompson, and Hunter. The one with the best chance of being nominated is Romney. Huckabee is a tax raising, soft on crime, open borders compassionate Evangelical. Culturally conservative--but no conservative. McCain is a Ted Kennedy Open Borders, Feingold violation of freedom of speech, Lieberman gang of 14 on jusicial appointments, and Gore environmentalist. An Independent--No conservative. Giuliani is soft on illegals and a cultural pro abortion, pro homossexual marriage, pro gun control liberal--no conservative. Any vote other than arguably Thompson or Romney is a vote to destroy the Reagan coalition moving the GOP to the Left--which I won't support. If it's Huck, McCain, or Giuliani for the GOP it's Constitution Party voting for this conservative.

Huckabee is NOT a conservative! He is a liberal Big government, open borders/amnesty cheerleader. His record in Arkansas was deadful; he raised taxes, hired hundreds of new state "workers" and wanted scholarships and in-state tuition for the children of illergals. The man is a fraud. There is only one conservative left, Fred Thompson. The poll results show "conservatives" know absolutely nothing about what is going on in this country. Buchanan is right, this nation is lost!

When selecting the President of The United States of America it is important to consider what kind of leadership experience that person has, we are after all choosing the CEO of the largest corporation in the WORLD.  Rudy was Mayor of NYC during one of the most trying times in history.  Prior to that he was a prosecutor (some leadership but not enough for me).  Mike Huckabee was Governor of Arkansas, prior to that he was a Baptist Minister.  What kind of leadership is required of a Baptist Minister?  I don't know many so I can't answer that.John McCain has been a Senator for what seems like forever.  Prior to that he was a POW in Viet Nam.  Makes him a hero, but no leadership there.Fred Thompson was an Attorney, turned actor, turned Senator, turned actor again.  I see no leadership experience there either.

Mitt Romney was Governor of Massachusetts where he balanced the budget without raising taxes while dealing with the most liberal state legislature in the country.  Prior to that he was a top executive of two ultra successful financial management companies and took over the scandal ridden SLC Olympics which were running over $100 million in the red, by the time the Olympics actually took place they were one of few Olympics to ever make a profit.  He has shown throughout his business career that he is a man of his word.

There is a reason JFK was the last Senator elected to be President.  Being a member of the board does not prepare a person to be CEO.  Would you have the company you work for chose a mid level advisor as the CEO?  Why then would we elect a Senator or Congressman who has no leadership experience to the most important Chief Executive Officer position in the world?
