Government Admits Lying About Border Agents Case

Shocking Admission Of Lying By Government In Ramos/Compean Case DEVELOPING-- Under questioning by Rep. John Culberson, a Department of Homeland Security representative admitted that his department did NOT have evidence to back up a number of claims made to members of Congress last fall to bolster its case against imprisoned agents Ramos and Compean, including: that the agents “wanted to shoot a Mexican,” confessed to shooting an unarmed suspect, were belligerent to investigators, lied and submitted false reports, and stated ...

This is QUITE a "turn of events" as far as the truth coming out.  However, it is a sad state of affairs when our own government falls short......and innocent people who are doing their jobs......are turned against, by the very government that they have trusted.  Both border guards need to be released and given a full pardon PLUS monetary compensation for the rest of their lives.  It was our government that fell short and didn't get the proper information.  It was these guards that were guarding our country and doing their jobs.  Our government needs to bite the bullet (pun intended) and respond in the manner that I've suggested.

pardoning of these agents with compensation is imperative.......this would prove the wonderful land of the free, home of th e brave with JUSTICE FOR ALL.

WE DEPEND ON OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES TO BE OUT VOICES.....WE MUST PARDON THESE BORDER AGENTS.....

Did you know there is NO reciprocity between the countries of Mexico and the USA regarding 'illegals'?.......I have lived there as a teacher many times, and believe me, I was watched at all times .....  I could never have entered that country illegally.....no one can.....There are check points and check points and check points....all with fully armed federales.....if you do not have appropriate or current papers, you are arrested, jailed, possibly tortured and abused....maybe shot.....and deported....no questions asked.

WAKE UP U.S.A. ..... GET WITH THE PROGRAM......

I have been an ardent supporter of President Bush since he first ran for President in 2000.  I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning believing that he had been elected, only to find that the networks "spoke too soon".  I have supported him ever since, but his silence on this issue is just deafening!

President Bush just doesn't get it.  He should have pardoned these two border agents long ago.  We should never have gotten to this point.  This is just another issue that has us conservatives upset with the Republicans and the President just doesn't get it.

This is what I wrote to the President and below that is what I got back. They should have sen me a can openner for the canned response. It doesn't give that warm and comfy feeling. Then they tell me to send it to an email address that I sent this same email to.

The Border Patrol agents, Ramos and Compean should never had been put into prison prior to any appeal attempts. A CEO of some corrupt financial organization can stay out of prison but not if you are a hard working low ranking law enforcement officer. Where is the justice that America is so proud of. Well I am NOT proud of this corruption of the judicial process. Two men on their own without the means to get immediate guidance from a superior officer made a decision based upon what was occurring and the perceived immediate threat to them. This trial was/is a mockery of what this country stands for. Their actions after the shooting may not have been within the procedures of the agency but what happened at the time of the incident were. I know, having been a firearms instructor and special weapons team member (sniper) you must make a quick decision and act according to the threat. You hope and pray that you never will be in that situation but never the less you train for it.
The second issue I have is the safety of these two men. I am a retired California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation employee of over 30 years of service. I can speak from experience I have worked all levels of security from minimum level to maximum. I attained the rank of Captain and managed a 1000 bed facility. As a captain of the facility I would have already initiated an investigation as to how the assault on Agent Ramos could possibly even occur. The manager of the facility where Ramos is incarcerated should be investigated as well for not having proper security measures in place for these men. This assault should have been seen coming and preventive measures in place to insure that it would never occur.

Mr. President you need to "do the right thing" as one warden that I worked for said numerous times in our meetings. These men must be pardoned by you quickly. The longer they are held in custody the more chances of them getting seriously hurt or killed is present. The judicial system has failed again but you have the opportunity to set things right by doing the right thing....Pardon these agents.

On behalf of President Bush, thank you for your correspondence. We appreciate hearing your views and welcome your suggestions. How can John Sutton be removed from office? He has no business holding his position, and Bush had no business putting him in this office in 2001. What motivation could Sutton have trying to intimidate law enforcement officers from securing our borders? Besides the Mexican drug cartels, who benefits?

This is truly "unbelievable". The Government has not and wills not to follow any recommendations filed in the 9/11 commissioner's report.
If anyone out there has read this report, the "civil rights' backlash was predictable. There are plans and suggestions for prevention of such an injustice that has occured. I just don't understand what the big deal is. If President Bill Clinton a few years ago came to the aide of a young American in Singapore "since Singapore has very severe punishments" when people break their laws. Clinton was not successful and the young American received a severe whipping. Now I just don't get it? the border patrol agents honorably served their country!!.
Where is President George W. Bush on this? (D) Senator Dianne Feinstein, today came to the defense of the border patrol agents and is requesting for a re-investigation of this case!

It's time we point our wrath at Johnny Sutton, and if it's found that he lied in order to put these agents in prison, we should stick his butt in the can with ALL the criminals that he put behind bars. See how long ol' Johnny Boy lasts...

I hope when Ramos and Compean finally are realeased, they hire a "Dream Team" of lawyers to sue the FREAKIN' pants off the U.S. government.

I have been following this since the first email was sent to me from Grass fire, and it has made me sick at my stomach, just thinking about it being one of my loved ones being sent off this way and not one person in our government helping them! This should not have been an issue in the first place. I have had the feeling that criminals are treated more justly than innocent people for along time in this country, but this proves it! What is our government thinking? And, how many more lies have they told? How many other people are in jail somewhere because of their lack of concern or their sweeping it under the rug. It is a sad day in America when stuff like this happens but a sadder day when our government has to lie about it anything,  let alone a person's life! Goes to show that a life in this country doesn't mean much, especially if its an unborn child or an elderly person, and now, if you have been treated unjustly! Sad, Sad, Sad day!

If our government has lied about this, what else are they lying about? It is a sad state of affairs when one cannot trust those who are supposed to have his or her best interests in mind. This is obviously not the case in this country. Now, Officer Ramos has endured a brutal beating as well as time spent in jail. What was his crime? Prohibiting the entrance of illegals, something he was paid to do. I hang my head in shame for the disgusting travesties of justice that continue to be handed down by our government. They are far too concerned with goings on in other countries and are blinded to the downward spiral their own is taking.

This is a classic example of misapplication of a law that was obviously intended to be used to increase the penalty for crimes committed with violence or firearms. This has been happening over a long period of time
A law that specifies that it applies to ANYONE committing a crime, DOES NOT mean that it applies to someone who by LAW is doing their job. ANYONE who claims such misapplication of the law, is NOT QUALIFIED TO BE AN OFFICER OF THE COURT in any capacity and should immediately be removed from his or her position! Technicalities DO MATTER! EVEN THE JUDGE who did not understand the entire law any better than it appears this one did, should also be removed from his position. They should be disqualified as officers of the court. A Judge is not supposed to be led around by the nose by the attorneys presenting cases before him. He is supposed to know the law and apply it legally, without partisonship, and without predjudice. This obviously was not done!
The Law was intended to be interpreted by people who have a moral base from which they make choices, and based on the precedent that was set before in other like cases. Not for current judges to decide that they are old fashioned and no longer applicable to the current society. Law is NOT supposed to be molded to a societies indulgences, but is supposed to be a line drawn determining normal behavior that is required of its citizens. Otherwise, you end up with Anarchy because the law no longer means anything.
The officers of the court should be qualified by being able to competently read and understand what they read - without ignoring sections of any of it. The Judge should be so well informed on the Law that his judgment on an issue presented by the attorneys in court, cannot sway him either way if it doesn't line up with the law. That is the point of having a judge in the first place!
Also, the officers of the court in criminal cases, should ALL be after the TRUTH. Not trying to find ways around the truth. Therefore, for even a defense attorney to use falsehood to "Get his client off" for a crime that he knows was committed by his client, is in itself a crime. That is also why the officers of the court need to have a moral base from which they are making their choices. True, every person needs someone to defend him, but it should still only go as far as the truth allows.
We are wasting an astronomical amount of money on the concept of homeland security if we are going to have police, Prosecutors and Judges who are protecting the drug smugglers, and armed men shooting at the police and our citizens. For U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton to contend that officers of the Law-Guards charged with defending the borders of our country can be classified as Criminals who "should not have discharged arms at all." In applying this law to our Border Guards Mr. Sutton states:
Sutton: I can't speak to what the Congressional intent was. All I can speak to is what the law says and the law says what it says, and it doesn't make any exception for law enforcement officers. It says that if you commit a crime of violence and you use a firearm during a crime of violence, it's ten year mandatory minimum stacked on top of what time you already have. No exception is made for law enforcement officers. The judge applied the law and if people want to change the law, then you can talk to their representatives.

What crime were Ramos and Compean committing, during which they decided to fire their weapons? Surely, Sutton does not consider it a crime for Border Patrol agents to stop and seek to arrest a person they suspect of smuggling drugs across the border. In his own words, Mr. Sutton stated that "it says that if you commit a CRIME of VIOLENCE and you use a FIREARM DURING A CRIME OF VIOLENCE...". Since when is it a crime for our border guards to be protecting our borders. Since when is it a Crime of violence for our law enforcement officers to ENFORCE THE LAW, AS THEY HAVE SWORN TO DO! Those words in themselves exonerate these officers. I DO NOT BELIEVE A PARDON BY THE PRESIDENT IS ENOUGH. They are completely innocent and it should be recognized as such by the court. A Pardon says that they are guilty but we will forgive them. THEY SHOULD BE EXONERATED! THEY ARE NOT GUILTY! In that I believe President Bush is Correct!
Now the latest is an admission by the Homeland Security Investigator to Rep. Culberson that they were convicted on lies. While Ron De Jong and I (Steve Elliott) were presenting 304,000 citizen petitions
to Rep. Rohrabacher on Capitol Hill, we were shocked when the
Congressman informed us that the Department of Homeland Security
(DHS) had admitted to members of Congress...

...that they had lied to Congress about the case
against imprisoned agents Ramos and Compean.

Under questioning by Rep. Culberson, a DHS investigator admitted that his department did NOT have evidence to back up a number of outrageous claims including: Mexican/American agents Ramos and
Compean "wanted to shoot a Mexican"; confessed to shooting an unarmed suspect; were belligerent to investigators; lied and
submitted false reports; and stated during the investigation
that the illegal alien did not pose a threat.

In addition, the DHS admitted that it began its prosecution
BEFORE completing their investigation!

In addition, I believe that we need to make some serious changes in our law. Any time the law is applied wrongfully to a situation that it obviously does not apply to, the people responsible should be accountable themselves for the crime that they are committing in misapplication of law! Knowing that they will be held accountable for crimes should cause them to be much more serious in making sure that they understand the law that they are applying to a situation really does apply. Officers who lie in order to obtain a conviction should also go to jail!
We are having the same problem with the RICO Law. While it's intent was to curb huge profits from drug dealing and smuggling, it is being used against citizens in other situations that are not applicable at all and we have no real recourse.

I believe that the president has ordered all involved in illegal immigration to ignore anyone that is illegally crossing the border.  He is doing all in his power to erase our borders and has proven time and again that he could care less about America or it's citizens.  Sending a few illegals back or raiding a few places that hire them is only a show.  Most of them are only released back into our society or allowed to freely come back if deported at all.  Nothing is done to those that hire them in the first place.  Notice that whenever the opportunity is there, he makes it known that he intends to make them citizens. He says it is not amnesty, but what else can it be called?  Pay a fine and become a citizen!  That will apply to anyone that gets here in time, but even that isn't enough for Bush.  He demands the rest of the "Hispanics" be allowed in.

I believe Bush had probably been really upset that a Border agent had the nerve to try to stop one of his beloved illegals!  I also believe that the feds thought that once they had sent these agents to prison that would be the end of it.  It is apparent that they are perplexed by the out pouring of anger from citizens and are finally realizing that it isn't just going away after all!  I just pray all citizens will continue to raise cain until these agents are released and all involved in this travesty are in prison themselves.

Everyone needs to keep calling and writing to all politicians to demand that  the fence be built, the real fence, and that employers be jailed and fined big time for hiring illegal aliens.  You can bet that they would suddenly find out who is illegal or not!  Also demand no anchor babies and that English be the official language.  If any city wants to be a safe harbor for these sneaks, let them lose any and all federal funding!  Take away the jobs and they'll all go home on their own dime!  The only illegal aliens left will be the drug dealers so there would be no doubt whether they should be arrested or not.

To say the the Administration has disappointed me is an understatement of the first degree and this, above all, takes the prize.  I am so ashamed of those responsible for this "crime" against Agents who spend their lives TRYING TO PROTECT OUR BORDERS and I hope with all my heart enough pressure is being "laid on" that the drastic changes that must be made will indeed be forthcoming ASAP.

I no longer donate to the Republican Party for several reasons, the latest being I will NOT provide money to a Party that so blatantly ignores the American People when it comes to Illegal Aliens.  Our tax dollars are being spent to sustain them, our hospital "emergency rooms" are taking a financial beating to the point where doors are being closed to everyone.  As far as I am concerned the Illegal Alien situation in our Country has been OUT OF CONTROL FOR WAY TOO MANY YEARS and it is time someone took a stand to rid our Nation of these people by closing the borders as tightly as possible and if necessary, allow our Border Patrol to shoot those attempting to cross illegally.

RESPONSE TO ALL POSTERS:

I'm very proud to be an American as far as this group goes.  You are a very fair bunch and articuate solutions well.

Yes...Johnny Sutton should be asked to step down.  Talk about someone NOT doing their job well!

Lisa....I promise to use those phone numbers.....thanks so much.  I honestly think we should all commit to calling as many as possible by next Wed.

Can you imagine having to sit in prison......knowing what the truth is.....and not being able to make anyone believe that you truly are not guilty?

I have been praying for these two guys and their families.  Please promise to do the same.

 Thanks!

I have always had the feeling there is more to this story than we are hearing. Why hasn't the Border Patrol Service backed these guys up?  Why is the President not jumping on this case, on the surface it is a no-brainer? Why is the press shying away from it?

Recently, I have heard rumors that the to border guards were involved in a drug deal gone bad with the accuser.  This would change the outcome of this case significantly.  I would really like to hear more facts in the case before judgement.
