Federal & State Governments Getting Tough on Illegals

More Prosecutors On the Border

The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) announced its augmented investment of $7 million to boost U.S. Attorney offices in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California. Sixty-four assistant U.S. Attorneys and 35 support Staff will be hired to expand the prosecution of human traffickers, drug and gun smugglers, violent criminals and money launderers.

This increase shows that border security is a top priority for the DOJ and these new sources will allow for better border security. The investments in the U.S. attorney offices are great but the current influx of illegal aliens will continue as long as the borders are open. The Federal government needs to take their constitutional responsibility and secure our borders by building the fence. Once the fence is built, the amount of illegal aliens will decrease and money can be spend on real immigration reform. More Here

South Carolina To Build Prisons Only for Illegals

Recently, the South Carolina sheriffs have endorsed a plan to build prisons only for illegal aliens awaiting deportation. Currently, the illegal aliens are taking up valuable space in the already over-crowded prisons of South Carolina. The current plan for these prisons sets forth that each prison will hold a maximum of 400 illegals, be run by state officials, and be paid for by a Department of Homeland Defense program.  However, the proposal is still a work in progress. Destroy the Magnets of Business and Enterprise

Ordinances passed by cities such as in Hazleton, Pennsylvania have shown significant declines in illegal immigration activity. One such decline is that fewer immigrants are sending money back home to Latin America. An Inter-American Development bank study , shows that fewer immigrants from Latin America are regularly sending money to their home countries because of the growing restrictions on illegal immigrants. See Study

The laws passed in Pennsylvania includes fines and loss of privileges for any landlords or employers who rented to or hired illegal immigrants. These ordinances clearly follow the plan of immigration through attrition—taking away the magnets (i.e. jobs, renting ability) will slowly, yet consistently decrease the amount of illegal aliens in the United States.  The illegal alien ordinances are meeting their goals which are to get illegal immigrants to change their behavior and leave. Basically, it’s time to change the climate so that illegal immigrants get the message that the party is over and they need to go home.

Steve, Thanks for the information.  McCain apparently does not understand that winning the war in Iraq will me meaningless if he allows us to lose the war on our borders.  If the Media says there are 20 million illegals in the country then we should exptect the number to be closer to 40 million.  Secure borders should be the FIRST priority of any Federal or State government.  If illegals commit a crirme (other than just crossing the border) they should be exported (perhaps to China or Russia where they supposedly have a booming economy) or at least back to the middle of Mexico.  Giving them a bus ride to the Mexican border just makes it more convenient for them to cross over again.  If illegals live peaceful lives and are productive helper to their communities, they should be allowed to stay, BUT NOT BE GIVEN CITIZENSHIP.  Illegals should NOT be given welfare, or any of the other social services designed for CITIZENS.  If they can make a living here in the USA they should pay their way just like those who are here legally.  If they commit a crime while living here, it should be "ONE STRIKE" and they are gone.  Wonder how they would enjoy prison in the USA if our prisons were like those in Mexico or even France?

P.S.  I am now supporting Bob Barr, the only true conservative running for President.

From South Carolina-- House approves illegal immigration bill The Associated Press Wednesday, May 7, 2008 COLUMBIA — Legislation that would suspend business licenses of South Carolina employers who knowingly hire illegal workers has been approved in the House. The House removed one of three options the Senate gave employers as a way to verify workers' legal status. The latest measure limits verification to a federal online database called E-Verify or a South Carolina driver's license. It deleted employers' ability to use a new paper-based system created and audited by the state. The Senate plan passed last week would slap hefty fines on employers who knowingly hire illegal workers. But House Judiciary Chairman Jim Harrison said federal law doesn't allow fines or criminal penalties for such a crime. The measure returns to the Senate, which must decide whether to accept the changes.
