Have you noticed that guests on media shows, both TV and radio, cite these obscure poll results?Innocent I'd love to converse with these rattlepates. I'd ask the following: Where was the poll taken? In what area of the USA? Was it a red state or blue state? Who was polled? etc. And yet the "anal-list" or guest speaker uses those results to bolster their position in debate. Let's analyze these polls.Wink

Typically,  a poll involves 20 to 30 thousand people. Is that all, you ask? Yes, as a rule about that. Yet the "user of the poll" suggests that the whole country thinks like the poll results.Sealed You hear, as an example, 67% of the American people like or dislike something. WRONG!! It's 67% of the people polled!!! In rebuttle they say, "Well it's an indication of  how most Americans think." WRONG AGAIN!!! It's an indication how the people polled think!!Surprised

The group administering the poll selects the area where they assume the poll will show the results they are looking for.Undecided That same poll taken in a different part of the country may have totally different results. It depends on who is polled. Or who answers another pesky phone call. What their ethnic background is. Whether they are legal or ILLEGAL. What their annual income is. Where they reside. What their political affiliation is, etc.Money mouth

Politicians use a variation of these polls. John Kerry and John Murtha blundered when they said their polls backed them and THEY spoke for all veterans.Sealed Remember the stir that caused? Veterans all over the country disagreed, including me.Yell The veterans I know were appalled.

Mr. Kerry was a boat captain. The "grunts" where I was in Viet Nam, called the Swift Boats, "Rat-traps" and the people aboard were called "river rats". When the going got tough, the "River Rats" could speed away on the river. By the same token, "we" were glad they were there in some skirmishes. Ask a "grunt", aka "ground-pounder", if a Navy guy speaks for them. NOT!!!

Mr. Kerry has no idea what he's talking about. Also, just because you were shot down, like Mr. McCain, another Navy guy, and spent time in a POW camp, doesn't make you an expert on prisoner interrogation 40 years later in a war that is nowhere near what soldiers went through in Viet Nam, WWII, or even WWI. While I  respect their service, I disagree with their politics. These current vets are in their own Hell, and need all they backing and support both in and out of the country.

When "Johnny came marching home," there were big ticker-tape parades, songs were written, and confetti flew from the windows. The Nam vet, including myself, was spit at or spit on. Kerry, the Navy guy boat captain, went before Congress IN AN ARMY SHIRT!!!, by the way, and said the Army guys killed babies, butchered innocent women and children, burned down villages, etc. HE WAS NEVER ON THE GROUND IN A FIRE FIGHT!! HE WAS A RIVER RAT!! He had no first-hand knowledge of anything he was talking about, yet there he was in front of Congress "squawking" like Rosie O'Donnell, another "trained parrot", as he treasonly addressed Congress with his unproven allegations. I disliked him immensely then, even more now. In Nam, the "mule" disliked the "goat" hugely. Can you tell?

Excuse me for straying from the point. The point I was trying to make is that polls can be manipulated to reflect anything, good or bad, that the pollsters want to represent to the public. People in power, here to for called PIPS, i.e senators and reps., hire pollsters to create these polling situations. News shows do the same thing. Polls create news. Polls create division where there once was none.

I've heard political "anal-lists" bad mouth a poll when it's not in their favor and the next night embrace the one that is. I don't put much stock into polls or the people that manipulate the polls for personal and political gains. It's obvious to me, these people think the American public is stupid. Let's poll the PIPS!!! Let's poll them.

Off the subject, here's a solution to the "prisoners or war" in Gitmo and other places and how Dems. and Reps. want to treat the captured fanatics. The big stink is how to treat them after they are captured. It's very simple. Don't take them captive. KILL THEM AND BURY THEM. End of debate.

JHK. Man if you would run for office I will put all the force of 10000 people behind you. Only problem is that clear thinking and precise action have no place in the halls of government. Guess we could always form our own. Stay healthy and keep on keepin on.

Thanks raccoonpossum. But no thanks. I'd probably be assassinated. We could form our own, that's true. But as you said, "Clear thinking and precise action have no place in the halls of government." Outstanding quote.
