Liberals Should Cease And Desist Attacks On General Petreus And Troops Schumer Bashes Troops, Blames U.S. (listen here) Gen. Petraeus has just made his long-awaited presentation to Congress on progress on the war in Iraq. As the Gen. stated in his letter to the troops, "we have achieved tactical momentum and wrested the initiative from our enemies in a number of areas of Iraq." However, "we are ... a long way from the goal line." The picture he paints is not bleak but it is not rosy either. Unfortunately, many liberals have taken to harsh, personal attacks on Petraeus. Schumer says Iraq success "despite the surge" Perhaps most outrageous of all were comments last week from Sen. Schumer, who said the violence in Iraq went down "despite the surge," and elaborated by saying it was "the inability of American soldiers" that caused warlords to take matters into their own hands. Of course, these comments were not covered by the mainstream media. No mention in New York Times. So I wanted to give you the audio and transcript. Listen to Schumer's comments (40 seconds) by clicking here.Full quote: The violence in Anbar has gone down despite the Surge, not because of the Surge. The inability of American soldiers to protect these tribes from Al Qaeda said to these tribes, "We have to fight Al Qaeda ourselves." It wasn't that the surge brought peace here, it was that the warlords took peace here; created a temporary peace here. And that is because there was noone else there protecting." | |||||||||||||||
